Hey, I said hire Chaim Bloom out of Tampa few years ago. Instead they Nimrods hired BVW and rest is history. Meanwhile Bloom has the Red Sox in the thick of things in the AL East/ Wildcard when they had no business being this good this soon.

Doesn’t matter who is the GM as long as Sandy is still around.
Sure it does.

Remember the original plan was to hire a VP of Baseball Operations (or something like that) who would report to Sandy. This person would hire a GM and the two of them would run the team.

As it turns out, we have neither a VP Baseball Operations, nor a GM. We go from a President down to an Acting GM. A huge organizational gap.

If the gap is filled next year with an experienced VP, Alderson may subordinate his own role next year as originally planned.

Is Sandy part of the problem? What you're saying is management is incomplete. The front office is stretched thin because people are required to do multiple jobs. I wasn't big on Sandy coming back. The Wilpons left a bad taste in everyone's mouth and I thought it was time for some new blood as the game is changing quickly. Sandy is a reminder of this. Bloom or Stearns (Milwaukee) would have been a good starting point.

I have never been a Sandy fan. And I feel he blocks any good young GM from joining us. I don’t believe Sandy would allow a GM to actually make decisions.

Bloom made some great deals to rebuild the Red Sox and now they’re in the Division race again. I rather have things done the Tampa Way than the Sandy Way.

The biggest head scratcher from the font office is they knew about de Grom likely being out for another month, and they did not acquire another pitcher, unless they think that Trevor Williams fit the bill. Trevor Williams- over 5 ERA and averages 4.5 innings per start. What were the other options, and if there were options, were they asked to give up too much?

Saw this last night:

Is this accurate? Mets didn't even make a good-faith offer?

If so, this isn't about Boras or going "over-slot".
Sounds like they didn't even offer a minimal contract.

Between this, Albert Almora, Billy McKenny, Kumar Rocker, and some other glaring f ups the front office has done, they all have to go!!!! ESP SANDY SINCE HE EITHER SIGNED OFF ON YHIS OR IT WAS HIS IDEA.

And I don’t think you can actually blame Rojas… Maybe/maybe not. But he has been dealt some weird roster decisions above his pay grade.

Based on multiple reports, yes that is accurate. When the Mets saw the results of Rocker's post draft physical, they pulled the offer. They clearly viewed him as damaged goods, and preferred to take the compensatory pick next year.

Right or wrong, this was a BASEBALL decision. Preferable IMO to the Mets trying to lowball him, as originally reported.

To Olney's point, the Mets took advantage of a loophole in the rules. Ordinarily the team must make a bonafide qualifying offer in order to get a compensatory pick if the player does not sign. However, if the player declines to take a predraft physical, as Rocker did, then that requirement is waived.

How they didn't take at least one hard to sign HS player just in case is beyond me. They knew going into the draft they didn't have his medicals and this was a possibility. It would have been nice to shift those dollars elsewhere.

I don't follow closely but isn't the MLB draft basically a guessing game as it is?

Why not just sign him and rehab/deal with the injury?
Instead of hoping with #11 next year.

Is the injury considered a career ender?

From the Mets perspective they must think it is. They've taken pitchers in the draft who need TJ so it has to be more than that to scare them off.

None of us know the details of the medical report, not should we. Privacy laws and such.

The reduction of the draft from 40 rounds to 20 may have been a factor. Teams are less likely to take a flyer on kids that they have no expectation of signing.

That said, in this case I agree with you.

Stop being critical. After all isnt the team still in 1st place?

Banda claimed by Pirates. Too bad. He wasn't a very good pitcher, but I thought he looked pretty cool.

Hasn’t pitched since June 19

1/3 inning 3 runs vs Yankees
6.79 era
Broke finger playing video games
Prediction: Megill will throw another gem but we will struggle to put up crooked numbers against Mr 6.79 😏 Of course I hope to be terribly wrong. Not about the Megill part but about us struggling to score once agains when he pitches
