Been watching the beautiful weather from Clearwooder (South Philly pronunciation for Clearwater) this week while we anticipated a nothing of a storm pass us.
Unlike the Mets and Yankees the Phillies didn't take a big swing in free agency. For the most part all the major players are still intact.
A do or die year with some major free agents after this season. Most notably is JT Realmuto. Along with Schwarber and Suarez.
They were play there first preseason game tomorrow and will be Televized live on Sunday.
Atlanta is still the favorite for the NL East but Phillies and Mets are right behind
Should be a great summer!

Should the platoon of Marsh and Rojas in center field fail, will Montgomery make an offer for Trout in late July, possibly giving up Suarez?

From what I heard, a lot around here, is that Trout isn't looking to be traded and he has a no trade clause. Makes no sense why he wants to stay on the Angels. At this point he is injured too much to trade anything if value.

As last season ended both Marsh and Bohm were no expected to be with the team this year. I am in the minority but Bohm is a good+player especially after his famous "I Phucking Hate This Place" comment. 😁

I was hoping for a bat in free agency, specifically one that could platoon CF. We still have a strong lineup and the pickup of Luzardo is great.

The greatest thing about the Phillies year in and year out of late is the fans. 2nd in Attendance last year behind the Dodgers! Huge home game advantage.
They were ahead of 4th place Yankees but not by much.
They were way ahead of the 17th place Mets by over 1 million.
The crowd at Citizen Bank are unreal.

Yea it is. I made it to one game last year and had a blast.

It’s a great place to see a game. Citi Field is awesome too.

Citizens bank is one of the nicest stadiums in the league

As @WhiteBus says, this is a do-or-die year for the current Phillies roster. I am trying to be optimistic. I saw an article in The Athletic about Kevin Long's efforts to cut down on chase rates. I know hitting a baseball is *really* difficult, but it seems to me that veteran players should already have figured out how to do this. I also doubt the stoutness of the defense, particularly at short and third. As for the bullpen, we'll see. But it would be great for the Phillies to emulate the Eagles and bring a championship to Philly's devoted fans.

Trout is making a move to RF in an attempt to have less wear and tear on his body. He can no doubt still play CF, but he's hoping that the move will help him play in more games, so I don't think he's looking to move back.

@WhiteBus is 100% correct that he is not looking to be traded. Although every trade rumor article under the Sun links him to the Phils, from what I've heard he while he loves coming home to SJ in the off season to hunt and go to Eagles games, he's happy going relatively unnoticed amongst the stars in LA and feels that Philly would be a big distraction and a lot of pressure for him.

As for the team this year, I don't love the "run it back" with mostly the same players, but I understand it, with the age and contract situation of most of them.

I still expect them to be in the playoffs, and once there if they are hot, they can beat any team in a series.

Great, fun, exciting game for the Phillies!

The sun/shade between the mound and home plate was brutal for the hitters in the early inning. Guys were missing the ball by feet!

Phil's down 1 and just one hit but Harper put on his Superman cape and the game was changed.

We also saw how important Bohm is. The Nationals pitched around Harper with two out in the 10th and Bohm made them pay for it. The better Bohm hits, the more good pitches Harper is going to see.

One game is a poor sample, but it's worrying that Realmuto struck out three times (I think); that the Phillies as a whole struck out 19 times, and that Marsh continues to look lost against left-handed pitching.

Read the post game interviews. They couldn't see the ball at all.

The strikeouts were a product of the sun/shade issue at the start of the game lasting at least 4 innings. Every Phillies player had at least 1 strikeout, most had multiple Ks.
Im not going to worry about him yet especially with him adding two more runs with a triple in the 11th.
The 2 players that concern me at times are Marsh and Castellanos. Two hitters that are very streaking. When they are on they carry the team. When they are down the bottom of the order has no production.

The triple was a sliced fly ball. But Realmuto is an excellent defender and so, like you, I'm willing to give him a lot of slack.

I completely agree about Marsh and Castellanos. What bothers me the most is that neither seems capable of overcoming his deficiencies at the plate.

Stay positive, they won not lost and it was just game #1

Phillies trivia:Who hit the team's first triple in 2006?

He had a much bigger hit in Manhattan in October that year.

It was the same for both teams. The Nats were far from impressive, but they didn't strike out 19 times.

4 p.m. starts are terrible. It's even worse when they're used in the playoffs.
They struck out 13 times. That's quite a bit. They had 5 total hits in the game. It was difficult for anyone to see the baseball.

True. Let's hope it was a one-time aberration. Let's also hope that Castellanos, Marsh, Turner, and Walker all have better years this year than last.

Phillies take down the last undefeated. Some clutch hits and JT had a great night behind the plate. To bad I had to listen to it and not see it live as it was an Apple TV.

Comcast cannot figure out how to add Apple + to our cable plan without totally screwing it up.

Hindsight is 20-20, but did it really make sense for Ohtani to try to steal second in the 8th inning with his team down three runs, a man already in scoring position, and Mookie Betts at bat? It's true that last year he stole 50 bases and was caught only four times -- but everyone knows about Realmuto's pop time and arm.

Phillies take 2 out of 3 against the LA Dodgers. A roller coaster ride today but the important thing is winning another series. They never give up. They don't play each other's again until September 15. That will be a good test hopefully heading into the playoffs.

How do they get Bohm back in the lineup?
Meanwhile,Logan O'Hoppe, the former future catcher, has 5 home runs for the Angels while hitting .345.

He just sat out his first game yesterday. Bohm, Marsh and Castellanos are all streaking hitters.

Back in Phirst.
Now for the bad news:Alvarado is running up big pitch counts, likely keeping him away from back to backs.
Marsh and Bohm are looking really bad.Baseball needs to expand rosters to 28,29 players to rest or to bench players or to have a third catcher. There are too many pitchers on teams and too many on the 40 man.

JT as DH tonight with Schwarber in left.
Marchan behind the dish with Soto at 2nd and Rojas in center.
Turner leading off.

Heck, I'd take him anywhere! But you're right -- he would look awfully good in the outfield right now considering the Phillies' weaknesses out there.
And as an outfielder he isn't all that good. The best you can say is he's better then Stanton on the Yankees.
