It is being reported in Pittsburgh that Kraft-Heinz may be out of the naming rights for the stadium starting in 2023. New naming rights for the stadium to begin in 2023.

Heinz originally paid $57 million under a 20 year agreement or to name the stadium Heinz Field or $2.85 million annually.

What would the cost of new naming rights be today. Who knows.

Example, SoFi is paying $20 million per year for a 20 year agreement to put its name on the stadium where the Rams and Chargers play.

It would be ironic if UPMC bid for the naming rights for the stadium. UPMC-PITT STADIUM home of the Pitt Panthers and Steelers has a nice ring. Why build a new stadium when you can name one.

Not like UPMC is opposed to putting its name on things.

Consider Duquesne University's name for its Basketball Arena: UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
Consider Robert Morris University's name for its Basketball Arena: UPMC Events Center
UPMC sign sits on top of the tallest building in Pittsburgh (formally called the US Steel Building).

LOL!!!!

Not saying any of this has any chance of happening but the new naming rights may be reveled as early as this week.
If Kraft-Heinz does not retain naming rights, wonder what will happen to the Big Ketchup Bottles on the score board.
Stay tuned.

A little bit of levity for the Rutgers Board.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

UPMC = University of Pittsburgh Medical Center?

Hope they keep Heinz as the naming rights. Pittsburgh Company and tradition.

If they change just don't use "Jersey Mikes Stadium".

Agree, but tradition is lost because $$$$ rules.

Just as we see in College Football today. Rivalries and geography are gone as Conferences break apart.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

UPMC Field doesn’t sound bad. At least it’s part of their community.
It’s too bad PSEG don’t want to dip into the naming rights pool for Rutgers Facilities.

*If there’s already something at RU named after PSEG than my bad.

Isn't it odd that hospitals and "health care" companies are spending money for naming rights? Rutgers has the Barnabas performance center.

University of Miami gets lots of money from billionaire John Ruiz, CEO of the MSP Recover, "the leading Medicaid and Medicare Secondary Payer Act Recovery Specialist."

Maybe we all chose the wrong field and should have gone into hospitals and health care?

Sounds like Heinz no longer relishes the opportunity to put their name on a stadium?

Seems like they were outbid and could not ketchup with the competition. It's dijon vu all over again.

Looks like their bid couldn't cut the mustard. And now they're in a pickle.

French's Mustard Stadium. The color fits.

Don't have any concerns of that happening.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!
I think the biggest risk to the ACC is if 8 of the 15 members (ND gets a vote) vote to dissolve the conference. In that case I assume there is no longer an exit fee or a GOR, since there is no longer a legal payee entity. That would certainly wind up in court.

If such a vote occurred today, I think there would be four definite Yes votes (ND, Clemson, Florida St, UNC) and three Probables (Miami, UVA, Duke). Plus a few maybes.

Do you view this as a concern?

Wish RWJBarnabas was renamed “Rutgers University Medical Center” .. RUMC .. since they sponsor so much of our athletics stuff. Like IU Health, UPMC, UMiami Health, etc that you see in stadiums all across college football

Then on top of that you have the insurance companies Highmark doing the same and people wonder why we don't have affordable health care in this country. I go to a UPMC facility for surgery how much of the cost is going to stadiums, advertising, mega CEO salaries ect.

No I don't have a concern and I'll tell you my reasoning.

To begin with the SEC and ACC Conference and ACC Network are the exclusive property of ESPN (100% tie in) until 2035. The ACC does have Conference GOR's which will expire in 2035 and were required by ESPN.

There is speculation that Fox will be the sole bidder to get the B1G broadcast rights which will eliminate the B1G from the ESPN network.

The ACC Conference and Network is very important to ESPN for its content and ESPN will not want to do anything to destroy its marketability going forward.

I have confidence in Jim Phillips and the fact that ESPN will do what is in its best interest.

I am sure Phillips and ESPN are in communication with these conference changes. The ACC could add teams (with ESPN agreement) to open up the contract to increase funding.

What I am confident in is ESPN will do what is in ESPN's best interest as would Fox Sports.

You may not agree with any of this but that is why I am not concerned now.

Stay tuned

It is really unseemly and completely out of whack with the way things should be.

Hey Nut

The University of Pittsburgh Medical School (Research) Is ranked #14 in the Nation by US News and World Report (America's Best Graduate Schools 2023). If you compare all of the prestegious medical schools in the B1G and ACC only Duke University Medical School is ranked higher than Pitt.

My question for you is why is Penn State University School of Medicine not listed in the US News ranking.

I never said anything about the quality of it. I am just saying that these medical organizations should not be wasting money on stadium deals. It just add to the financial waste of the health care system. It not just UPMC but all the waste in the healthcare system. Pitt a very good medical school and is much more highly regarded then Penn State. PA is very lucky to have two prestigious medical schools in Penn and Pitt. Penn State is a relatively young and small medical school in what was the middle of nowhere. Pitt medical school was almost 100 years old when Penn State was starting. It does serve a important need in the area. I have no clue why they weren't rated but a third of the schools did not participate in the rankings. So perhaps that is the reason.

Actually, Penn State Medical School is not ranked at all by US News. Some people say that PSU will not fill out the paper work required to be included in US News ranking. Do you know if that is true and if so why is that.

Always wondered about that.

I think the only reason they did was because they could tie into the athletic trainer and health part of the center. It would be smart to put an athlete health center in the new football complex as well, they would probably want a part of that too. I'm sure it's already in the plans.

I always assumed Barnabas had a medical connection to that place. Don't they? A trainers program, kinesiology, bones and joints? Nothing?

Well they're the exclusive healthcare provider for Rutgers Athletics so I'm sure everything from nutrition to bones, joints and sprains. They'll give athletics money to build the training and health facilities because they're the one's using it as well. Fixing our student athletes ain't free ya know. 🤣

Build a new Pitt Stadium on campus, they should have refurbished it in the first place
The Steelers stadium is 4-5 miles from the main campus. When I visited a couple of years ago, it seemed a lot further away when we took the bus back to the airport from downtown.
