I think every new Jerseyite should subscribe for that $ 100+ per year... quality and fair blogging... none are writers or reporters... $6 ??? ... for garbage... biased ... stories ... when they post equal for all sides.... then and ONLY then...

It‘s a shame it not going to survive. Newspapers is the only real source for local news. Many wouldn’t have known the salary for policemen and teachers if it wasn’t published in the newspaper. A lot of the problems with police dept, schools, and local government won’t be exposed.

Board of education will be able to pass anything they want since most people were be aware of it.

I did enjoy reading the a Sunday Star Ledger for 25 cents.

It's not a shame, and there are plenty of sources for local news. For example, in Monmouth County, we have the weekly Coast Star, which does an outstanding job on local news for the South Monmouth towns, and up in the Rumson/Middletown area, there is the Two River Times. There are also blogs like Red Bank Green, covering Red Bank and surrounding areas. Then there is patch.com, which does a great job of doing stories of interest.

The Asbury Park Press used to do a solid job on local news, but it is terrible now. Their "reporting" of fires usually consists of them giving a report from exactly what has been posted local fire department's social media page.

The Bergen Record use to a good newspaper but when USA Today brought it it basically give 90% national news.

Those other newspapers you mention are probably small, never hear of them and has a very small staff of lowly paid reporters, if any. The small free weekly newspaper I don’t even consider a newspaper.

Sunday fall sports sections used to the best . All the stories from the big college games and all your high school games . Baseball stories . Then the previews of all the nfl games. .

Read the SL sports section everyday growing up and loved the Sunday edition during the football season.

It's garbage now. The best content has been cut over the years and now it's worthless.

In this day an age by the time the story/information physically gets to print it's almost always already old news.

It's the world we live in now.

Part of the reason for all the mistakes we see in print now is the attempt to keep up with digital. Can't be done.

Less mistakes can (which is on them), but not the speed of delivery.

And the small papers you poo poo do provide exactly what you're saying will be gone if something like the Star Ledger goes under.

Almost 10-20 years ago, it started to only have a bunch of advertising.
