OT: Three Virginia Football Players Murdered By Former Player

How, in this thread, do we have all these whacked the F out sidebar discussions going on.

Tragic for everyone involved. And unless these 3-5 kids that are dead or injured had something to do with direct bullying (if there was any) of the killer- then there is no discussion. This is on the shooter. - only disclaimer, if he has a prior history, then it does fall on how we regulate and also, just help these people.
He does have a prior issue. School even investigated to see if he had a gun in his dorm.

Witnesses on the bus told Brenda that the suspect pulled a handgun and began firing, specifically targeting football players, McKernan says.

“Mike was towards the front of the bus. Mike survived because he was farther away from the shooter,” McKernan says. “The other three were seated closer to the shooter.”

A motive for the shooting remains unclear, but the incident has stunned the Virginia community.

“They had been on a field trip to see a play (in Washington D.C.) and when they came home on a bus, they pulled into the parking garage,” McKernan says. “The suspect, who apparently may not have been a part of the class but was on the trip … he was asking one of the football players about a video game. The guy answered, and at that moment, he pulled a gun and started shooting. The belief from those on board was that he was targeting football players.”

Hope it was a decision made by players and coaches and not some administrator

From the article:

In a news conference Tuesday, Virginia athletic director Carla Williams had said her department would consult with coach Tony Elliott and the team about playing Saturday's game.

"Obviously, they're going through a lot, and we want to make sure they're involved as well. We'll use our best judgment," Williams said.

A source who knows Jones but asked not to be named told The Daily Beast that he had “been bullied” at UVA, “and it was bad.” Relatives of Jones’ told NBC 12 on Monday that he had been hazed while at UVA. School officials confirmed an alleged hazing incident, according to CBS reporter Olivia Rinaldi, but witnesses at the time reportedly would not cooperate.

I remember there were hazing issues years ago when we lived down there: I thought that they had made changes so that that wouldn't happen anymore.

UVA President James Ryan is from my hometown of Midland Park NJ. Knew he and his sister Claire very well. Jimmy was captain of the debate team. Feel horrible for the victims, their families and everyone and the school that their lives have changed.

Your post reminded me that he delivered one of the great graduation speeches a few years back:
