OT: Tiger with no recollection of accident!

The distracted driving explanation doesn't really make sense with what's been reported. He went across the median in a straight line as the road curved, hitting a sign in the median, then made impact on the far side of the road. No skidmarks for breaking or trying to regain control of the vehicle. Traveling above the speed limit on a downhill stretch of road. Not under the influence. Seen driving below speed limit behind another car 7 minutes earlier. Early morning. Allegedly no memory of what happened. Alleged sleep disorder disclosed at time of a prior incident.

If he were texting or otherwise distracted, hitting the sign on the median (and simply driving over the unpaved median) would likely have drawn his attention back to the road enough for him to brake hard or swerve - but there were no skidmarks for either.

Simplest explanation is he dozed off and didn't wake up until the car crashed and pinned his legs.

He was not asleep. He passed one of the producers of the shoot flying by him. There is audio of it on TMZ.

I’m thinking Ben Hogan like remarkable recovery, he’s older but he’s got until he’s 50 to win another major.
I Think blow to head would have been acknowledged in Doctors statement Screw

If anyone can come back from this at his age it's probably Tiger or someone like Bryson. Both are very hard workers. But he's been beaten up for the last 5+ years and add a shattered ankle and a double compound lower leg fracture on the other side and it's just how much flexibility and strength does he lose, and how much can he recover in middle age. He's not going to heal like a 20 year old. But I bet he wins again on the tour. Certainly on the Sr. Tour.

I was offering up the head shot from personal experience. I lost a week of memory from my HS car accident and my only injury was losing consciousness at impact due to a head shot. I was awake in the car once it was upside down and snaked out the rear window. Dazed but fine - except for the lost week of course.

Only if someone makes a concerted effort to check his cell phone.
Thankfully, their are no other injuries and no one else’s lawyers to demand or prompt a cell phone investigation.
I saw Rennie Stennet’s foot and ankle turned 180 degrees in the opposite direction, and he had almost no pain while laying at 2nd base.
The body is an amazing thing.
Compound fractured and dislocated pinky knuckle playing softball. Had the bone sticking out and top half of finger next to the bottom half. Never really felt pain was laughing in the ambulance as the top half of finger was bobbing up and down with every bump. A bump of people got real queasy looking at at field. That stuff does not bother me

That demeanor changed quick in the hospital aas l had a an ER Dr that made me cry twice and scream every name in the book at him at the top of my lungs.
Must have given me like 10 novocaine shots in the place the bone was sticking out while he tried to pop my knuckle back in place not once but twice. Told hin if he came near me again I'd punch him in his face. They brought down an orthopedic specialist who put me on a morphine drip popped it in in 2 second very easy. The ER Dr was pulling as hard as he could like 30 or 40 second ea twice.

Oddly enough went to physical therapy for an F'ing pinky for 6 months. At the end of that 6 months it was bending like 30 degrees and they told me that's all I would get back. A week later was walking thru a doorway hit my pinky heard a crack and it's bent fine since. The knuckle still pops out a lot but I can pop back in myself in seconds. Never felt the initial break and dislocation though.

No idea if the memory loss is real or fake but even without head trauma, the human body and mind does amazing things. The trauma he had with the leg, is horrific, sounds like he was in major shock at the scene as well...and there is no time to be pulling a fakeout when you have broken bones sticking out of the skin. So- his shock at that time was very real. I can easily believe his mind has shut it all down.

BTW- reading about his surgeries- I am not sure everyone realizes how horrible the procedure he went through was- the muscle bruising sounds what they call Compartment Syndrome- my son had this after being crushed between two forklifts...they literally have to fillet your muscles apart and leave them open while applying a vacuum device to it. I almost shut down when I even hear of it anymore after seeing it with a loved one.

As for the cause of the accident- it does sound to me that either falling asleep or texting could be one of the reasons. If texting- they will find out. I would assume this is fairly routine anymore. Even the insurance investigators will be looking for this as well. Keep in mind he was driving a vehicle that he did not own and was provided by a sponsor. They are going to do a huge amount of due diligence. Imagine if it was the fault of the vehicle they provided to him that ruins his billion dollar career...
I bet he was speeding and texting to let Breeze and the other guy know he was late and running behind

Broke it so stupidly. Was running from 2nd to 3rd ball grounded up the middle the SS coming super hard right at my nuts with his head and shattered it on the top of his head protecting the boy bags. Argued with dr he said I got caught on a gold chain...I was like jackass I shattered it on the crown of his head ,as he said it was just dislocated and not fractured and that the bone didnt go thru the skin...after all said and done the orthopedic specialist set him straight that it was fractured and dislocated. I did save the boys though that's all that matters

Hard to believe, every close call or accident I’ve ever been in, I remember exactly what happened, some without God and luck on my side would have been serious.
If he never lost consciousness, how does he not remember the cause, or the first moment of losing control?
I do not believe the accident was drug or alcohol related.
Maybe, texting related?
If you don’t hurt anyone else, what’s the penalty, and will authorities check his texting history at the time of the accident ?

When I was 20 (completely sober and long before cell phones - 1984). I was driving down a road that snaked down a small mountain; next thing I knew I was in a creek and my car was at a 90 degree angle in the water. As strange as it sounds, I don’t have any recollection of what happened and lucky to be alive. Based on the skid marks in the gravel just to the right of my lane, (on a two lane road) the car started to skid, and I must have over corrected. I then crossed the other lane, went through a guard rail and went down 15 feet into the creek (no seatbelt). I banged up my knee, but no other part of my body hit anything, and the car did not have any airbags (basically impossible that I didn’t go through the windshield, no less hit my head). The only thing they could figure was that I flew to the passenger side of the car and somehow grabbed a bar on the passenger side door (a bar that one would use to close the door). They concluded that I grabbed the bar because the door had zero damage, except that one side of the handle was ripped off the door and the other side of the handle was still bolted to the door.

I'm thinking this is much different golf world than the Ben Hogan era. There is so much technology, equipment, and training that has leveled the playing field. Plus hardly anyone has mentioned the impact on his back from this accident coupled with his huge history of back issues. This was no fender bender. Legs were mangled and his back has to be affected. I'd be surprised to see him competitive ever again and shocked to see him contend.

Tiger had a history of bad memory. Remember all the
times he forgot he was married with children?

Very true and yet he is still a golf hero. Some have such short memories, dont they?

Zappa. My son two years ago was skiing thru the trees at smugglers with a friend he was going fast hit a patch of ice, according to his friend and went airborne and hit a tree. He broke his femur in half a clean brake. He was screaming in pain. When we got to the hospital that night and I asked what happened he had no recollection. I think the brain said you don’t want to remember this and the memory is just suppressed. The key was you said almost a serious injury what I witnessed with my son was not almost but a serious injury. Do yes it is quite possible tiger has no memory of the accident. My son had a rod s screws put in and is now fine and skiing again but staying more on the trails. The doctor said he was lucky that the break was a clean brake and didn’t break out of the skin

Police need a warrant to check his phone, which is likely damaged. Doubt they get one. He’s a celebrity, so they’ll sweep things under the rug, if possible. Plus there was no one else affected but himself. He was likely texting or speeding. Even if he wasn’t texting, that’s a difficult road to be speeding on, in a Hyundai SUV. He learned firsthand the SUV doesn’t handle like a car.

As a celebrity shouldn’t he receive special treatment when it comes to violating the law?

Almost certainly. But he's one motivated guy focused on winning. This could be another challenge to him. I'd be amazed if he doesn't win on the Senior Tour. And I wouldn't be surprised to see him try to tee it up on the main tour in a year or two. But yeah his Dominating Tiger days are over on the reg tour.

Ronnie Stennet. Now that’s a blast from the past. You don’t hear that name thrown out too often. He is famous for two things in particular. Without google who knows what they are?

The only two I know is him going 7 for 7 in Chicago.(remarkable accomplishment)
And the other I can not repeat on this board, but it happened under the stands between innings, also in Chicago!...lol

You can admire the man's accomplishments yet think his personal life was a self imposed train wreck. I was never a big fan but marveled at what he could do on the course.

His 2nd accomplishment was more of a team thing before you arrived.

He should be on seniors tour already his body is broken badly.. he wont even be able to play that now. What's the motivation?? Hes had like 10 surgeries between his back and knee. His motivation should be to count his lucky stars he's alive, spend as much time with his kids as he can and hope he can get out of bed pain free and walk pain free for the remainder of his life. Due to his STUPIDITY he almost lost all those things. At the very least he was speeding badly probably mix in his phone there. There is zero chance he doesnt remember accident unless her fell asleep driving or his medication affected him in some way. If the common person had an accident like that their blood would be tested for alcohol and drugs, along with texting while driving. Every part of that accident is 100% detectable

Yes it was a team thing but it wasn’t winning the World Series. I believe white bus has it

yes 7 for 7 is one of the two things. Crazy. I think 2 players have done it. The other was fairly recent I think. Maybe in the last 5 years.

For a 9 inning game It's just Stennett and Wilbur Robinson in 1892.

You may be thinking of Brandon Crawford of the Giants who went 7 for 8 in a 14 inning game in 2016. Casar Gutierrez went 7-7 in a 12 inning game in 1972. He had 121 hits the rest of his career.

The all time record holder for hits in any game is Johnny Burnett who in 1932 went 9-11 in an 18 inning game.

The distracted driving explanation doesn't really make sense with what's been reported.

If he was distracted and looking at cell phone would be why he never braked, no skid marks and it was too late?

If he went over median and curb somewhere along the line his vehicle did the Superman thing which would explain no skid Mark's. Maybe when you are worth like a Billion $ you should have a car service shuttle u back and forth just food for thought

He went off the paved road, across an unpaved median strip, where he hit a street sign, then continued across two lanes on the other side, before leaving the road again.... All in a straight line. . And no signs of breaking or evasive driving. That would have had to have been an incredibly engaging text conversation.

Simplest explanation is he was asleep at the wheel.

Good stuff. Thank you. The second thing I was referring to along with the 7 hits was Rennie was in the first all black lineup in MLB history

Led off batting that day. Pirates beat Philly. With no ESPN no WFAN back then newspapers spread the news back than. Remember reading it the next day and my first thought was that was really cool.

Check out the scorecard. Check out the starters on both teams. A lot of big names playing that day.

Me too..
Oscar, Bowa, McCarver, Vuk, Clemente, Stargell, Sanquillen, Cash, Oliver and Doc Ellis all in the same game. Thats an All-Star team. Check the batting averages of the first 6 Pirates. All over .300!

FTR, I don’t give a rats donkey about Tiger woods. But in generalities, this probably makes the most sense, probably too much esp if his blood was clean. But you still must have conspiracy theories about what happened.

Except that he accelerated a lot from the last view before the crash. Normally you fall asleep your foot comes off the pedal.

Good point but a lot of things can happen when you nod off, sometimes good and lucky, other times with horrific results. I remember when I was driving up 295 during the most of working OT/ Doubles in a month stretch and a couple of time I never remembered how I got from left lane two lanes over to right lane. Or how I got to the garage intact. Like I said, sometimes good and LUCKY.

But Hopefully if there is a black box in that truck like some have mentioned, maybe that will answer most questions.

There is a black box in that specific Genesis. Whether the police look at it is another question. Need to get TMZ to get the info.
