Tommy DeVito, one of the smooth harmonizers of legendary doo-wop group the Four Seasons, has died from complications of the coronavirus. The baritone vocalist and lead guitarist was 92.

When reached by The Post for comment, Four Seasons frontman Frankie Valli and singer-keyboardist Bob Gaudio said in a joint statement:

“It is with great sadness that we report that Tommy DeVito, a founding member of the Four Seasons, has passed. We send our love to his family during this most difficult time. He will be missed by all who loved him.”

Actor Alfred Nittoli (“Casino”) first confirmed DeVito’s passing Tuesday on Facebook.

“My dear friend Tommy passed away in Las Vegas at 9:45 last night,” Nittoli wrote, spurring dozens of emotional condolences. “With deep regret I am writing this sitting in his living room. I was informed by his daughter Darcel there will be a service in New Jersey.”

DeVito, a native of Belleville, NJ, was hospitalized recently after contracting COVID-19, NJ.com reported.

DeVito began performing with Newark native Valli in doo-wop crews such as the Variatones and the Four Lovers circa 1954. After co-founding the Four Seasons in 1960, the male vocalist crew cranked out a string of chart-topping hits in a decade otherwise dominated by the British Invasion. The bandmates’ classic tracks include “December 1963 (Oh, What a Night),” “Walk Like a Man,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Sherry.”

Even if you get hit by a truck? Or are shot by a jealous wife? Do you have a cut off age after which you ascribe any death to just being from old age?

Ok, if OJ came in and cut your throat, perhaps not. If you die from something that the overwhelming majority of people live through and you are that age, not so much.

If I fall and break my leg no problem. If you are 92 and fall and break your leg, big problem. But id you really die from it?

I really don’t know how healthy he was but maybe he had another 5 good years before he died prematurely when he got Covid. Would those 5 years be of less value to him than your next 5 years to you? Have you decided on the cutoff age yet?

I saw the Jersey Boys in Vegas in 2013. If you remember close to the end of the show DeVito's character gives his soliloquy and says "if you're ever in Vegas...look me up". So I did.

I found several leads and wound up speaking to DeVito's wife / left a message. His wife said Tommy was working in the studio. I received a call from Tommy later that day and I asked for Joe Pesci's agent's name. Tommy helped out and gave me Jay Julien's name / #. Julien who was on Broadway in NYC graduated from G-town in 1946: the world's oldest attorney , passed away around 2015-17.

My plans of getting my manuscript published (i grew up in Belleville until 1960 and then moved to Bloomfield directly in back of Connie Francis' house) didn't materialize but Tommy was was meat / potatoes when I asked for help.

RIP Tommy...and thanks!

At 92 years old, life didn’t owe him anything in terms of additional years on this planet.

You don’t get that?

That’s a great story. Had the opportunity to see DeVito (and Pesce) at the St. Barnabas golf outing a few years ago at Trump National. He must have been 87/88 and he looked it. Ironic that Goodfella’s celebrated 30 year anniversary of release this week...Pesce’s characters name...Tommy DeVito...

That was the one with Cristy Kerr and Natalie Gulbis?

I went to 2, both at Brooklake CC.

So did I.

And while I never saw the play I thought the movie was really, really good.
Just saw this on some website:

Tommy DeVito is the name of Joe Pesci’s character in Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas.” No relation. Sort of.
Tommy DeVito appeared in three movies, “The Good Shepherd,” “Casino” and “8 Heads in Duffel Bag,” all of which also featured (wait for it) Joe Pesci. Pesci was a childhood friend and wrangled bit parts for DeVito in some of his movies.

confirmed in imdb, except they have Tommy DeVito in Gone Fishin', a classic Joe Pesci movie.

Very underrated movie IMO.

Thought Pesci and Alec Baldwin were really good in their roles.

This one had Bill Raftery as a dinner speaker....Kevin Willard was there too. Pesce and Ron Delmauro were members at Brookdale. Don’t remember the SBMC outing there. Went from Baltusrol, Trump to Canoe Brook.

There was a candy store owner in Harrison in the early 60's who told me that they were once arrested for holding up a gas station during at break at a club in which they were performing.

RBG died of old age or was it cancer? What is the age cutoff??? Pray tell.
Point is.. we have seen many cases where Covid wasn't even tested.. yet is blamed for the death because they had similar symptoms. 60K people a year die from regular flu.. you know, regular flu that we were told by "SCIENCE" was more of a threat than CoVid.

So some people are likely dying of complications from regular flu, regular pneumonia.. but it is CoVid that gets blamed. And something like 95% plus of the deaths are of people with multiple issues.. like being 92.

Tell me Tommy DeVito was among the healthiest 92-year-olds on the planet and then we can blame CoVid...

This was 2018.. 90 years old.. and still doing events... god bless and keep him.. covid is a complete side-issue.

When you die at 92, you died of old age.
92 is a good life especially if you were in relatively good health and doing what you love to do. Always referred to as the golden years, but somewhere along the way the rust sets in too. My in-laws were 93 & 95 and my father-in-law was still playing golf at 89 and hitting shots like he was in his 70's. It just becomes harder to remember your score.

Don’t bother. Clueless fools continue to deny.

When you die of COViD-19 at 92 your comorbidity is that you’re 92.

My grandfather is in his 90's. I don't want Covid killing him. Don't you get that??

I really do. Just don’t let Murphy or Cuomo assign him to a nursing home.

Did gramps teach you how to post under multiple screen names like formerly ru, greg2020 and many others as yet unknown?

No but he taught me not to be a selfish prick and violate quarantine orders like you do.
