Thus doesn’t relate to me since our company just closed Friday night, but do any of you know if the unemployment federal aid applies only to new unemployment claims or does it also apply to folks who were already on unemployment. Thank you for any reliable information. Hope all of you and your families get through this ok.

Heaven Let's start with the cure then jobs.
Unemployment is not jobs and the SP clearly speaks about unemployment. So, Heavens question is perfectly in line and relative. I’m actually more concerned about extensions. NJ only gives 6 months with no extensions but NY extends to a year.

Don't know if this addresses your question but it talks about unemployment insurance. Good luck

@HeavenUniv. I read something today about back-dating it to claims as far back as Feb. 14th to cover those that were laid off prior to stimulus approval. I could have the 14th wrong but it was def. mid-Feb.

Everything is cool guys. To everyone and your families, just be healthy. I try to not follow politics, but just glad things have been worked out in Washington and people in much tougher situations than me are going to get some help.

Looks like the plan is to give 13 week extensions to anyone currently on unemployment and add $600 per week to what they currently get or match their salary at the time they last worked, whichever is lessor.
That is a very good move all the way around.

I don’t have any children, but some families are really going to need this aid. Company closings, partial layoffs, daycare closures are hurting. There is a guy from Cal Tech, I think his name is Dr Hu, who thinks this isn’t going to be weeks, but will be one to two years. I sure hope he is way off the mark.

My sweet wife has worked at Shoprite for a couple of years now , she works between 35 & 40 hours a week. Starting next week Shoprite will be cutting hours down to 12 hours per person per week, I may be wrong but she should be able to continue at Shoprite and collect to compensate for lost wages ?

Got furloughed EOD yesterday, length of time not known at this point. Sigh. And since I work in Philly (I live in NJ) I need to claim unemployment with PA, not NJ. I have to wait until tomorrow to claim. This blows. Been with this advertising agency for 9 years. All indications are that I will be hired back once the casinos (our main source of revenue) open back up, but who knows when that's gonna be.

Zimm,I am 99.9 percent sure she can get unemployment even though she is working some hours.

Dirty, not saying you are wrong, but are you sure you get unemployment from the state you work in and not where your home is? I certainly don’t claim to be an expert.

Thanks HeavenU ,my gut tells me your 100% correct , her manager told her she couldn’t but I think he was under the impression she wanted to stay home all together and not work which isn’t the case. Be Safe.

I just took a look in regards to working out of state , you have to claim unemployment in the state you were working in, you can do it online with direct deposit.

The $600 is a fixed amount. It's not capped. So if someone was making $500.00 a week they will get the percentage that the state unemployment agency gives plus the $600 so will actually collect more than what they were earning. The bill was rushed and an attempt to amend that down to a capped amount started a new round of bickering and was dropped.

Cz, not saying you are wrong, but that sounds too good to be true . So if someone was making $500 a week, in New Jersey they would get $300 a week which would be $1,200 per month. Are you saying they would now get the earlier $300 per week plus $ 600 per week plus the $1,200 monthly aid per adult amount? That would come to $4,800 per person per month. Is that correct ?

Its whatever they would normally get from unemployment plus $600 a week

If they would normally get $400 a week, they now would get $1000 a week

The unanswered question is when it would start

We closed 8 days ago. I wonder if most companies that are closing have already done so or if there will a lot more this coming Friday.

I’m glad I’ll have them take out the 10% in taxes, that could add up quick because this has not peaked yet, there’s no telling to when some normalcy will be back.

If in normal times you file and get a significant refund from either State or Feds, you are over with holding and in effect loaning the amount of your refund to the government and getting no interest in your loan to them.

Adjust your # of deductions if above is happening every year.

Yeah I don’t get as much back now that they changed what you can write off for expenses work wise, but I never have to write a check at the end of the year. The extra 600 they are talking about sounds too good to be true I have to say, but I’ll except if I have to.

I'm waiting for day or so, till somebody smarter than me can read the 800 + pages and attempts to understand it for us mere mortals.

I am really PO'ed that Nancy forced thru raises for Congress at $ 25,000 per year.

I have heard that she is worth in the 100's of millions....

"6. There is no Congressional Pay Raise. Let me say it again. There is no pay raise for members of the House and Senate, no matter what you read on Twitter or Facebook. The troublemakers on Twitter didn't take long in spreading fake news about the details of this bill, accusing lawmakers of voting themselves a pay raise. Let me be very clear - that did *not* happen in this bill. There is no reference to the underlying federal code which governs the pay of lawmakers (section 601(a) of the Legislative Reorganization Act of 1946 (2 U.S.C. 4501)). Is there extra money for Congress in this bill? Yes, there is. The Senate gets $10 million, and the House gets $25 million. Where would that money go? It doesn't take too much imagination to come up with items like extra medical, safety, and security precautions for 435 members of the House. Expanded telework with laptops, servers, and more. Cleaning crews to deal with any outbreaks that might touch Congressional offices or the Capitol complex. And finally, even if lawmakers voted themselves a pay raise, they would not be allowed to get any extra money until the new Congress. That's not a law - that's in the Constitution."

I’m pretty sure what I read was that there was a cap, you can’t make more than what you made when working.

There's a lot going on so maybe you missed it. There was also some mention about the possibility of a DOL ruling that would put the cap in place, but as it stands now, the unemployed get $600 a week regardless of their pre-unemployment income.

If that is the case, good for those getting it which will include my wife and my son down in Florida, if he ever gets through to them. But on the other hand- would be incredibly stupid. If someone making $1000 a week is on unemployment. Previously, they would get around $600 a week or 60%(I believe that is the %). With plus $600, they are now making $200 more per week then they did while working. Let's say this applies to 500,000 people...Add that up per week.
Not saying your facts aren't correct but would be such a waste of money that should be going elsewhere

I agree even though my own daughter will benefit as well. There was some talk the DOL could issue a ruling to clarify and limit to 100%. That may still be on the table.

I’m kinda worried about all the money. My family is actually going to benefit with the unemployment. My biggest point is it doesn’t make any sense...

Where do you get this? Do you guys just make this shit up? Have you read the bill? Do you even know what's in it? Clearly you don't.

I’d be more worried about getting the virus right now , you could worry about getting a little extra money for your family later and maybe after you think about all the taxes you and your family pay over a lifetime then possibly it won’t worry so much. Be Safe .

Store wide? We cut our store hours but no cut in employees hours as some have stopped working to take care of kids or are just scared to be in this environment.
