First it was Direct TV last year (though it came back), now Fios, though Fios and TWC gave no prior warning this was going to occur, re: news about contract negotiations. Replaced it with Accuweather, which has second-rate production values. TWC is one of my background TV channels. If nothing else, this will result in a few more eyeballs (or eyeballs lingering longer) on Sheena Parveen in the Philly market.

RU848789 long ago made the weather channel irrelevant.

i for one am thrilled. i passionately hate weather.com and weather channel

i just want the damn weather, not all the nonsense. is that too much to ask for?

weather:weather channel, music videos:mtv. thats the direction they were headed at.

edit: just tuned into the accuweather channel for the first time. LOVE the simple look.

Will not miss it. It was maddening during the two biggest storms of the winter that TWC was running Storm Stories and could not get updates on TWC. The best information came from the weather threads here.

When had dispute with Direct they replaced it with WeatherNation which is what watch now instead. TWC flat at sucks anymore

Haven't watched Weather Channel for years, now it is #s and Bac. Very happy with their predictions.

Weather.gov, the penn state e-wall and Ohio States Twister...that's all the weather that's needed

I know it's popular to bash TWC, as they do have those stupid shows on rather than real 24/7 weather, but they have gotten much better the past 2-3 years, especially with the winter storm specialists, like Greg Postell and Carl Parker (with Stu Ostro and friends behind the scenes) and the severe storm specialists, like Greg Forbes. Sure, Paul Kocin, who's now back at NOAA, is missed, but they actually discuss multiple weather models now and even teleconnections/patterns at times. And they do get some credit for doing better on the "blizzard" than everyone else, although they had some misses too.

Having said all that, I still go to the NWS first, as they have pros familiar with the local meteorology working there and they have far less reason to hype anything than the for-profit media sources - which is why I credit/link them all the time.

It must have been me;After all of my years protesting to the PUC about collusion,I finally get FIOS,and this happens.

I liked the channel, and will miss it . I thought the live remotes were great, especially during hurricane season.

While I enjoy the live remotes I've had a chance while traveling to see weather nation and I like the simple feel of it more than twc for just getting my forecast.

You might missing words.

My wife got an email about this the day it was dropped. Although i don't like the commercialism/pretense and over-dramatization which has engulfed TWC over the years, they do have some very knowledgeable people in "specialist" areas who are matter of fact and more scientific and real...so i will miss that.

Buh - Accuweather. HQed in State College. So full of PSU grads. No thanks.

I assume this is mostly because TWC is owned by the main competitor to FIOS in most of its area - Comcast.

Board violation.

You mean when the report the obvious...that's either windy, rainy or both?! I swear there's going to be a live decapitation on TV on of these days or some poor fool is going to get dragged out to sea by wave action!

Hey, TLC is no longer about learning, Discovery Channel is no longer about discovery and History Channel has not been about history for quite some time. TWC would have folded if they just continued with 24/7 met broadcasting in this era. They do shelve that stuff when there is major weather, like they did last week for our weather. I was looking forward to the spring. TWC is really good at tracking T-storms and tornadoes and there were some nights last spring and summer that made for some pretty intense broadcasting for weather casts.

Either TWC's fee demands are too unreasonable, or Fios and the others have a special kind of contempt just for TWC.

I do use the weather channel app. You get a forecast in 5 seconds. That's all I want. I don't want to spend any more time on it or have to thresh my way through other stuff.

The weather channel on TV? I can't begin to be bothered with all the stuff that goes on there. Do they even give local weather forecasts? If they do, it's too hard to find it and I am not going to bother.

I for one miss it. When I turn on the TV in the moring, it's the first thing on.

For some it's CNN or Fox News, for others it might be CNBC or other business news channel....or ESPN.

For me it was the Weather Channel. The replacement network sucks.

(although they have some really hot meteorologists on Accuweather....hotter than TWC babes.)

The Weather Channel used to be a mainstay in our house to check out the weather. However, like many other entities (Dunkin Donuts, Boston Market, Lechters, etc.) they lost sight of their core competency. Instead of focusing on the weather, they tried to branch out and go the entertainment route.Worse, they kept updating their website, making it less useful and more glitzy. They dropped useful features (allergy map, sporting event forecasts, etc), added more advertising space, and tried to hook into all of your social media accounts. Again, they're not my main link now for weather - the only real useful thing I like on their site is their radar map.

Dang - 'Fat Guys In The Woods" was funny show. Watching the fellas get all emo about who would be the one to kill a bird they trapped was one of best things I saw last year

I'm ok with FIOS dropping them, but not ok with the process. I think services that sell bundles of content should be overseen by a board, and that changes to those bundles should be reviewed for compliance with promises made to customers, and provide adequate notification along with a chance to be heard, especially where these bundles are offered as part of municipal a franchise. If they remove content or service levels from the bundle, then their franchise should automatically be open for competition.

I use the Weather Channel app every day. Its much better then the Apple app. Pollen maps are there, and lots more

Der- in this case, don't be so quick; there are several RU alums on the staff out there too. Quite a few RU Meteorology grads have gotten their start at Accuweather, even if they don't stay there for their entire careers. They do tend to burn through staff, though.

Comcast was supposed to add the new New Jersey TV station at The Shore back in January, but I still haven't seen it. Do any of you get it ?

I agree. Dunkin Donuts, Boston Market, and Hannibal Lechter's all give HORRIBLE weather forecasts...

The weather in Chicago or Houston or Billings never helped me dress appropriately before rushing out of my house anyway.

I do have the Weather Channel app though and use it regularly.

No one stays for long. Pay is super low. In the middle of nowhere. None of the benefits of government work, prestige of TWC or other major news outlets, or the money of the private sector.

That is an understatement, haha. The owner of the company is not noted for his generosity toward his employees. And he is a PSU grad, and very active in PSU affairs, sitting on the Board of Trustees, or whatever their equivalent is. Still there are some good folks laboring there, just like everywhere.

I kind of like the Accuweather channel - it reminds me of the early TWC days, when production was terrible but you get a local forecast within 30 seconds of turning on the TV.

They both have cheesy music, though.

We used to have a channel on our cable system that was just a 24/7 picture of the current weather radar, a robotic voice reading the NWS forecast, and a text version of the weather forecast scrolling across the bottom of the screen. Within 30 seconds you had everything you needed to know without all of the drama queen nonsense. That channel is no longer available on the system we currently have, unfortunately.

I can't stand The Weather Channel. Too much hype, overacting, and crap that has nothing to do with the weather forecast, or with the weather at all (shows about earthquakes, fishing, etc etc?). The running joke has become that at any given time, you can see just about anything on The Weather Channel except the weather forecast.

Yeah, I know it's all about ratings and $$$, but give me a no-nonsense channel that within a few seconds as I'm headed out the door tells me if it's going to rain today. That's why lately I just turn to the generic weather app on my phone for that info instead of bothering with the TV at all.

This accu channel sucks big time. Is there any other 24/7 weather channel on TV if they don't bring back TWC?

I heard the first Verizon radio commercial yesterday about how devastating it is to be losing the weather channel.
