OT: Walking Dead (spoilers)

Okay guys, enough time passed for everyone to see it.

So here's my spoiler question.. Enid is a spy for the Wolves.. right? In the beginning, in her back story flashback, when she shows up at the wall, she rubs off a W on her hand before making it a JSS.. right?

It wouldn't surprise me in the least bit if that was true. I was questioning that when she sat back to back with Carl after he "forced" her to stay at first. Right before that, as she walked over with the knife in her hand, I thought there was the slightest chance that she could have attacked Carl then since he wasn't expecting anything. I think it's great for Carl's character having some sort of connection to another character would soften him up a bit and make him a little more likable to the general audience.

I guess my other question would be how many Wolves are out there. A good number of them bit the dust in this episode and only a few got away out of Morgan's good graces. But was that just a small hoard? Most of them? I would assume this feud would last last at least a few more episodes before something really big happened and they moved on before the zombies overran the compound.

So here's my spoiler alert guess to what might happen next (no I don't know anything, I'm just extrapolating!)

So, it's clear that the show doesn't follow the comic, right? For example in the comic there's no Daryl and Andrea was still alive, etc. But what I did notice is that while the TV show may be different from the comic, some elements remain true. For example, in the comic the Governor beheaded Tyrees while in the show it was Hershel. Therefore, based on the comic and episodes 1 and 2, here is my guess as to what might happen this season .........

There will be one or two more altercations with the wolves. Rick and co. shows the wolves who's boss. Wolves leader comes back with a hundred people and shows Rick and co. who's really boss. Nicolas betrays the group. An important figure dies - like Glen.

When one of the wolves was asked why they r doing this, I think he replied he didn't have a choice....

I didn't notice Enid wiping off a W - would't it be on her head like everyone else's though?

Could be that Enid is a spy. Only thing that does not make sense is. If she was a spy the W's would have known about the armory, and made an all out assault to control it IMHO.

but in the comments for the article was this comment: "We know how they found out about Alexandria, from Aaron's pictures and maps that he left in his backpack the Wolves found.. Enid could very well be some spy for the Wolves, but your premise is incorrect. Plus, they kind of showed how she wound up there."

I don't see Enid being a spy. If she is, she's horrible at it. The Wolves seemed to be going around Alexandria randomly with no plan. The show explained that they found out about it via Aaron's backpack that he left behind. I don't see the Wolves being very formidable. They don't have firearms and four of them can't even take Morgan in a fight. Plus, Carol and Morgan defended Alexandria from the onslaught almost single-handedly. Add Rick, Daryl, Glenn, Michonne, Abraham, Sasha, etc. to the fight and it becomes a suicide mission for the Wolves. What I think it does is prove to the core group that Alexandria is too big to defend (like Enid said) and it's time to move on.

I think it also proves that the Wolves are nuts.....

That's the smoke screen. Make it look like the Ws are over matched - until later on when they show their real strength AND they kill an important person in the group. Of course maybe I'm totally off and they are just a bunch of crazies that Carol can handle all by herself.

They better start honking the horn on the road then to get them back in line! Doesn't that horn work?

I disagree that it doesn't follow the comic. Elements of the story have definitely changed as you noted but the main plot points are all there. The governor, Shane vs. Rick, Terminus on the TV show were the Hunters in the comic, the group that "claimed" things on the TV show were based on a group in the comic, etc.

I don't read the comic but I do look at the summary of each one and I think that the wolves are based on the Scavengers in the comic. That said, I think this battle ends well before the season finale. Lots of people think Negan is coming at the end of this season but I'm not entirely convinced yet.

I'm fairly convinced Enid is with the wolves in some capacity. She would sneak out, she slipped up when she was with Carl and said something about "we" during the attack.

I figured I'd hide this in case people don't know. In the comics the group is still in Alexandria even after the massive horde does huge damage to the area. Lots of people die but they do stay and re-build. If the TV show were to destroy Alexandria and move on (Hilltop?) it would be a really big divergence from the comic.

How I thought the big death was going to happen this show (and never did).

Carol? put that psychiatrist doctor lady in the armory closet and told her to point her gun and shoot whatever walked in the room. I was convinced that one of the main characters was going to walk in to try to grab a gun to help them out and get shot not knowing she was in there. She was very skittish that scene.

I was actually hoping that instead of her version of "keep chopping" JSS were initials for a real name of the wolves, and that Enid did go undercover in Alexandria (explains why she was so introverted with the other kids and would take off into the woods alone). Could have worked Carl into that storyline (and also show that he can be a real teenager despite everything).

Great episode. Carol is a beast. Morgan made it back so quickly because Rick sent him to find out what the horn was while the rest managed the herd of walkers. Morgan's life is precious stuff is going to get important people killed. Absolutely brutal the way they did it all, nice touch with the oven timer too.

Side note for anyone who follows the tv business... Walking dead Live + SD ratings have been down so far compared to season 5, and each Tue when they are reported the amc networks stock price takes a hit because of it. Twd makes up such a giant part of amc's success, and they're easily the biggest part of amc networks so Wall Street feels it. Can't remember that ever happening before with one single show.

I'm starting to wish SOMEBODY would. The pacifist act is wearing on me and is gonna get people killed. He effin' let wolves escape... and with a gun no less. smh

Except these have been some really good episodes. It's not like the quality is slipping. I'm surprised to hear about the ratings so far.

Ive been watching this show since the incredible first season. It has been up and down but the last season and half won me over after I was ready to give up after the boredom at the farm and prison. Well I watched the first episode and it made me not want to watch this show again. I just cannot like any of these characters and it seems likes it the same old same old with Rick. I cannot stand Glen. Daryll has turned into a pussy. Michonne has been tamed. The only character I do like is Carol and she is the only one whose character has truly developed for the better.

Perhaps I am feeling this way because I really really liked Fear The Walking Dead. I felt these people were real and reacting like people would really react. I mean you had ridiculous stuff like Tyrese unwilling to kill a zombie how long into this apocalypse. I just cant stand the moralistic tone of this show that sorts of continually hits me over the head. I saw less of this the last year and half but worried its coming back. Just bored with that first episode, I am willing to give the 2nd episode a watch but to me this show needs a major shift and from reading online others are feeling that way too.

There have been stretches where I've been bored throughout the six seasons, but overall, it's been a great ride and isn't even close to being stale yet.

What type of shift are you looking for? What do you mean by "moralistic"? You just want people blasting zombies left and right because that's what you think people would do? It's like you want to take all honest human decency and emotion/reaction out of the show (which is totally your opinion, and fine, I just disagree with the thought).

A lot of people, including myself, were confused with the first episode. The second episode starts to explain it, and the third will fully explain it. Just a lot of set up for the season, it seemed. Lots more action in Episode 2.

But yeah, just curious where your feelings about the various characters and plots are coming from.

Morgan is filling the role of a moral compass. He killed the guy in the house in the last scene right after he apologized for doing it.

I know it's TV, so reality has little to do with the story line. Guns are pretty useless once you use all the bullets. If they find some bullets for the gun, they will also likely find more guns. I don't see that as much of an issue.

The ratings have been down 7.6%. But its average this season is 6.80 (down from 7.36). To put these numbers in perspective, The Big Bang Theory is the highest rated show on network TV and it is averaging a 4.0 rating this season.

EDIT: Correction: The #1 show on the networks is Empire, which is averaging 5.5 rating.

Do you ever happen to catch "Talking Dead" after TWD? They covered that angle, and I actually appreciate the different moral dilemmas and how each character handles them. I just think there's a time and place for everything and, in the heat of the moment, when your life is in danger, you need to neutralize the threat one way or the other... not let them go. You'll only have to deal with them again at some point.

Hell, if he doesn't want to kill, they could capture one or two Wolves and interrogate them. They do need to figure out what they're dealing with. But, I don't think that's a practical solution for more than a couple of Wolves.

Agree with interrogation, but it needs to be medieval to send a message.

Rick needs the older Hispanic guy from Fear TWD to be airlifted to Alexandria to get some Wolves to sing.

The numbers get better when you factor in the c3, but unfortunately the first number reported is just the live + same day, and that's what everyone reacts to. Also not captured is anyone watching on the app.

People still watch TV, and are more dedicated to their favorite shows than ever. There's just too much stuff to watch, too many ways to watch it.

I don't need to see zombies being slaughtered every episode, never said that. I guess I am just tired of these characters. Interestingly enough this show has killed off my favorite characters except for Carole...Shane, Andrea, Beth....hell even that women who was in charge of the hospital Dawn. These people seemed to be fully drawn characters who had a lot to offer, in Beths case we didn't get to her until right before they axed her. In the meantime. Glen and Maggie are just total bores, moreso Glenn. Please kill him.

I also have a hard time believing that some of these people have been so insulated from attacks from the zombies and seem unsure about killing them. I just do not think that its realistic

Also I am wondering shouldn't the zombies be getting weaker as they have less and less humans to feed on. You would think that the heat and weather conditions would take a toll on their body.

Exactly, the zombies have been walking around for over a year. The virus must produce some kind of flesh preservative. (I know, it's not real; just ignores chemistry and physics.)

Glenn is definitely a character that I see not getting through this season. I didn't think he'd make it through last season. Maggie and Andrea are interchangable to me. No real attachment to either. I was happy that Shane died how he did. There was no way you were going to keep both guys despite their "close" friendship. Out of that group, Beth is definitely the one I want back. But I guess they gave some of her humanizing role to the Morgan and gave Carol the responsibility of keeping Darryl attached to the group. Michonne and Darryl being tamed is the whole point of Walking Dead, to me. If they're out on their own, they're savages in order to save their lives. But now they're in a group in a place like Alexandria, or the farm. Places where they can put their guard down for a while and try to get back to normalcy while the hoards are still invading the surrounding areas. Rick is Rick and is in charge of the group, so I don't think he can change much since he has everybody's life in his hands, but it's nice to see Carl getting out on his own a bit and growing up. Unlike 95% of America, I don't hate Carl.

I also have a hard time believing that some of these people have been so insulated from attacks from the zombies and seem unsure about killing them. I just do not think that its realistic.

There are a number of those people left in the group (at least 3-4, if you include the preacher, Eugene, the new female doctor, Morgan in a way, etc. Most have just got lucky hanging on others' tailcoats. Others will probably die soon enough. I don't know how they've been so lucky, but I totally understand that they still feel the way they do since they want life to return to normal still. Maybe they're still holding out hope that it does and that everything can go back to normal.

Also I am wondering shouldn't the zombies be getting weaker as they have less and less humans to feed on. You would think that the heat and weather conditions would take a toll on their body.

They should. Unless they're just newer zombies. I think we discussed this a while back on the boards about how zombies decompose. I have no clue how quick or slow the process is.

Yep. Like a missed Rutgers extra point, that gun will come back to haunt Rick + Co.

Now that whole thing is strange. What am I to believe.. that in 'merica, land of the gun, that handgun they got was the only gun the Wolves have ever found?

I can see some weird story where they outlawed guns in their cult or that they are all insane because of something they have been eating or drinking or breathing... or they were all in a psychiatric hospital when it all went down. But, come on, not finding guns? half the walkers out there prolly had guns on them or in their homes... and ammo too.

PS. how can Shane be among anyone's favorite characters? That dude needed to die.
