OT: Who else is still working?

I'm in clinical research and have shifted to fully remote since last Friday. Most people in my group are remote 1-2 days week, so this is not too unusual, but probably will be after a couple of weeks. No complaints though, as I still have a paycheck coming in.

Same. I've been minimally impacted, feel horrible for others that don't have the same security I have.

A thank you to the OP, White Bus, hankee and others working retail and jobs that help keep our lives normal.

And a huge thanks to MrsScrew and others in the healthcare industry. Stay safe.
Thank you not just for me but all the people I work with. It has been stressful to all of us because of people spreading rumors and hording.
However we all take a back seat to @MrsScrew and all the people in her industry.

Retired so not working - except we watch two grandsons who now are with us 6am til 4:30 pm and we don’t get to pack them off to school now.
Son works at Robert Wood in NB, so yes he is working, daughter in finance is working from home, daughter who public employee (social worker) has had office closed but I think is still getting paid.

Mandatory work from home.
Wife and I both work for a major global financial services company in Manhattan.

Literally zero dropoff in work for us.
Just as busy as usual (including multiple video conferences daily).

Having to manage a 4yo and 3yo (daycare is closed) on top of this normal work schedule has been very detrimental to work efficiency.

I actually took a vacation day today to be on kid-duty all day because my wife had a high priority deadline she needed to get through.

Luckily her capacity may free up over the next couple of weeks (just as my work load will be increasing for a couple weeks).

I will work no break for me. Hopefully none of my co workers get sick so I have to work a bunch of ot

WFH for me. IT portfolio management for a pharma.

Wife works for a state agency, deemed non-essential. They abruptly told them to WFH starting today. Then said they all have to come in twice a week starting next week. No one had a plan, and they left it to the supervisors to come up with something.

I'm in a different spot. Obviously in retail you have to be there. And both my Union and my store have lifted the ban on working 7 straight days. Actually I really dont mind it as they now have no say in the schedule I create.

HR - offices closed until Apr 3. Power plants still open. I-9’s have been solved but there is a shortage of equipment for new hires. Monitoring EEs who report sick, making sure folks stay informed.

Can’t complain but don’t think we’re back in the office until June 1 (just my guess).

So who is still working with all that is going on? I am a IBEW Union electrician and have not missed any time yet. I am working tomorrow in New Brunswick and Monday in Somerset. Even if Murphy shuts down non essential business this weekend I guess they are deeming my job essential. I know I am lucky to work but nothing I am doing is essential. Its a construction job site at a data center. My boss is already trying to get some kind of badge made for our vehicles saying we are essential. I just dont get it. Seems like money over safety to me. My wife also works for the state taxation dept and she still has to go in as well.
I own a Masonry company and we fall under the essential guidelines for construction. Even though we don't do essential stuff. We've continued to work with some stipulations on my part. No more going out for lunch, lunch is on the job site. No talking to homeowners, homeowners have been instructed by me to keep their distance for both our safeties.

All my employees have been instructed to limit outside contact during their personal time for our safety and so we can continue to work. Any one feels the slightest bit sick call me and I will inform everyone to self isolate. Next week and a half we will be working on my farm just to see if this skyrockets. If numbers continue to rise we may shut down for a little while. Some of my guys are getting real nervous and don't mind the extra time off as we have not stopped all winter. My guys are well informed on this and understand the severity.

I work from home home in sales and will contiue the product i sell is used more in times like this so Im busy.

My wife works at a high end retirement / nursing home / assisted living. All week long they have been locking down things more and more to the point where folks cant really come out of their rooms. and sections of the facility are segregated so there is no mixing. No visitors and no one leaves either

Senior Designer for an advertising agency, WFH indefinitely. My wife is in sales for a large new home builder, also WFH indefinitely. Both of us still working 40 hrs. week from home while also home schooling our 2 kids ages 8 and 11. Lots of quality family time this week while hunkering down, definite silver lining there.

I am concerned about both of our jobs though... my wife's because who is coming out to plan a new home right now and mine because the clientele of the ad agency I work for is 90% casinos, a lot of which (if not all) are shut down right now. Yikes.

Engineer and working from home. Bergen county offices were ordered to close as of saturday but I wouldve worked from home anyway. We work with other offices via Skype so it hasn't been too much of a change.

The head guy originally was asking "essential" employees to come in to ensure projects staying schedule. He didn't get that our work is not that essential and even could be done at home at maybe a little less productivity , on schedule but less risk. He gets it now. And like everyone else is learning how to deal and lead.

I feel bad for the supermarket cashiers, among others. They have to be getting major exposure

California is not as bad as you might think. Non-essential retail is the biggest loser. Today I talked to many friends in manufacturing related businesses that were operating as usual. I had 2 employees go on unemployment because their payments will be more than they would make working for me with shortened hours and no sales commissions. I have eliminated the retail portion of my business (about 50%) but am still doing customer service, shipping orders and production.

Driving around today there was more traffic than I expected and lots and lots of people out walking in the 59 degree temps. Restaurants have shorter hours and are doing takeout only or are completely closed, as are bars, pubs, etc. Supermarkets are pretty much back to normal or even less. A survey of parking lots showed most only 50 to 70 % full. Costco is the exception, but only because they are limiting the number of people at one time.

I'm in pharma development now working from home. Running joke is that we will be back in 2 weeks. If you want to make a wager......I'll take the over and guessing you'll be WFH at least until May.
Same here for my colleagues at Merck - most working from home, but some facilities folks and pilot plant folks making clinical deliveries are still going in. I'm now an 8-hr/week contractor after retiring in Dec, basically doing consulting with my same boss as before and I started working from home 2+ weeks ago, before any restrictions were put in place, but had no issue. Ostensibly this is until 3/31, but everyone knows it'll run much longer.

I work for a county social services office. The building is closed to 99% of clients with a handful of employees stationed near the entrance with applications for assistance and information on how to apply for assistance (I'm one of them). About 1/3 of employees aren't coming in. The workload for caseworkers has increased tremendously with people now losing their jobs.

Well I am still working. My team of doctors have been put in charge of treating any newly diagnosed COVID-19 patients in my hospital. We just got one confirmed case last week, a patient I admitted from the ER. Luckily I was wearing PPE(Personal protective equipment) as a precaution and did not have any symptoms, so did not have to self-quarantine, but have to take and report my temperature every day to occupational health. No COVID test Kits for the Staff !! We know our ICU will soon be full with Covid patients, if they go into respiratory failure, I have to intubate ,which means direct contact with their respiratory secretions (I will be wearing PPE). I am planning on moving out of my house to protect vulnerable people in my home (some Extended Stay Inn-I am looking) for a few months. I use PPE, hand sanitizer, bathe twice a day, spray myself from head to toe with hydrogen peroxide after bathing and use listerine many times a day.
P.S My girlfriend of 6 months just dumped me, but no hard feelings, she has a daughter with an autoimmine disease and I understand, and my wonderful friends do not want to come near me. I have become Typhoid Mary, but I will do everything I can to contain this pandemic.

I intern with a county agency and will begin working from home starting Monday.

Also work in a local hardware store and it's down to just the owner going in everyday ( he told the other 4 of us to stay home for now).

Classes obviously online for the rest of the semester.

My girlfriend works from home to begin with, in pharma, and has a history of asthma so she's been adamant I stay home. Higher ups at my jobs seem like they were dragging their feet because decisions weren't made until just yesterday.

No real way to do social distancing in our line of work. I was at a job in Clifton last week and was over 300 contractors on site. Some people working rite on top of eachother basically. You worried about it at all?
I’m definitely being as cautious as possible. I was At a job where everyone was really spread out and fresh air was coming through the building. We finished up end of week. May re sign the book and lay low for a few weeks and see how this all works out. My guess is all construction jobs will be shut down probably sooner then later.

One of the things I’ve changed the last few weeks is I eat my break and lunch in my truck at the job. Pack from home and limit my contact with most other guys on the job. Socks bc that’s one of the things that makes work tolerable at times is the personalities on the job. Hopefully just temporary inconvenience.

Yes I am. It's something I really do enjoy doing. Even through all of this. My beer supply chain is completely intact. My wine supply is out of wack but by the end of next week it will be better, I hope. Unfortunately it is only one of 2 states IIRC that wine and liquor is still completely run by State government.
Freehold Shop Rite by any chance?

I work in Pharma and our building is closed but everyone will WFH until the building re-opens. Not a big shift since most people WFH 1-2 times a week already.

Both my wife and I are retired, so our checks are not stopping, but I did lose my part-time school crossing guard job, for fun money,$600 a month. Both my sons still working, one in Finance has a complete office setup, as his boss sent everything needed, to meet with compliance issues and the like, he's able to trade remotely, amazing technology. My older son in Civil Engineering as of yet isn't working from home, but the talk is maybe, hoping for that soon. My wife and I can handle this quarantine, but not seeing our 2.5 year-old Granddaughter 3 times a week is a killer. Also, our Daughter in Law is 3 months pregnant and we fear this whole shitshow and helping her when needed.

My company just told us last night, shutting down night shift and only a handful left for the daytime. Instead of working until Midnite, closed at 8:00. At least we got paid until Midnite. To those of you who have children or are taking care of parents, hang in there. God Bless.

Wheeler I heard the price of Plaquenil has doubled. Have you heard that also

the generic version was reportedly made by one company.....they doubled the price towards the end of 2019, but then cut it back to the original price
when the crisis took hold....

as I recall, it was a pretty cheap drug....around since the 1940's and usually long time generics are cheap, unless one company becomes the only maker of the product and they get greedy.....the company here did the right thing

I'm in the 401k business and I've been wfh for at least 3 weeks. They sent everyone else home Monday for two weeks (for now). My wife left RJ in Nov and working now at McCaffrey's so she is going to work every day and dealing with the panic shoppers and hoarders.

I work in ITAD Recycling for mostly Fortune 500 Companies, still working but myself and my crew and another 3 crews are running out of work , companies are putting everything on hold for now . Spoke to HR and they told me that it’s ok to use your sick and vacation time . I’m not sure if that should rub me the wrong way but it did because as she was telling me this I could hear here kids in the background. It was obvious she’s working from home like many others who I work for, meanwhile myself and my crew are put in situations that are not safe.

Fed should make the 401k’s liquid without taxes or penalty.

As I told a friend the other day about what’s going on for me:

I’ll use a WWI analogy...considering where I actually work now, I am not in the trenches but over the top, past the barbed wire and in no man’s land. So I’m basically Black Jack Pershing leading a modern day AEF.

We have done some work schedule adjustments Job wide to mitigate but again, considering where I am actually working now it’s still kinda risky. So far so good...waiting to hear on some test results (for others around me) in the very near future.

But to be on the safe side I told my Parents (90 and 86) I won’t be seeing them in person for awhile.
