PAC 12 has cancelled all basketball until January 1

Is this decision to cease basketball until 2021 necessary in August?

Cmon.

Big 10 football decision today was bad enough

Nothing is going to change between now and November. It’s pretty much a done deal that there won’t be any college sports at all in the coming academic year.

PAC12 only did what the Ivy did earlier. No sports thru Dec 31 which cancels all fall sports while delaying, for now, the start of all winter sports until after the new year.

Why. What will change. Even if a vaccine came out today it would be months before it was in the public’s hands. They can’t play in the next 4 months regardless

IIRC, the Pac-12 is stopping all fall sports plus non-conference games for winter sports until 2021, not just men's basketball.

Norlander reports on men's college basketball so that's why he phrased his Tweet that way.

I disagree. There are several drugs that are in final stages of trials that if they are successful would make playing sports in October feasible. See the COVID-19 thread on the football board.

And these are the guys paid to be in charge? Those who roll on their bellies when the threat is months away?

Yea exactly if they are successful. There is literally 0 guarantee of that.

Here is the dilemma:

The virus is with us forever now, with or without a vaccine.

As long as the virus exists, there will be outbreaks.

As long as there is the possibility of outbreaks, there won't be college sports.

See where this puts us? Very real possibility college sports are permanently in the history books since we can't bubble 300+ schools forever.
