Penn State - Interesting Statistics from Last Night

This thread should be deleted. Embarrassing for our fans to say this after psu (much to my chagrin) beat the number 2 team in the country.
Again, you missed the sarcasm and the compliment in the OP. (Not you), but some folks are too dense to get past the title.

Let me make it clear. Statistics don't win games. Points do. Just ask Texas Tech, whose Patrick Mahomes threw for 734 yards last night in a losing effort. On third downs, Texas Tech and Mahomes went 16-of-19 for 263 passing yards and 3 for 39 rushing to gain 17 first downs and score 3 TDs.

As stated in the original thread (or my second post), PSU played a more complete game on defense (especially when it counted) and special teams. Kudos to them.

I get it, but the title takes away from any point being made. Now that its been changed, It makes more sense.

Was not my intent to rile anyone up. Just was having a little fun with the the statistics. When RU has lost, many fans, including me, look for positives in games, mostly in the stats--Ash did this in his press conference after the Illinois loss. It's not rocket science-clean up the turnovers, and we win last 2 games--but that does not speak to Minnesota's turnovers. It's part of the game.

Still wondering what Urban Meyer was thinking with that rushed field goal. Even the great coaches make mistakes once in a while. Great play by PSU to block it and run it back. But I still hate them, and think "they suck."

Good point. I must admit I judged the post mostly on the title. I feel like the fans on this site go overboard with not giving penn state credit. And believe me I hate them as much as the next guy.

Not an Ohio State fan and defended PSU here but just saw that last Ohio State drive. That last? pass downfield was pass interference-OSU got raked on that one.

I was at the game. OSU got the benefit of a couple of bad calls earlier, so it was hard to feel sorry for them. Ask other fans around the league how many calls they usually get against Ohio State. Penn State virtually handed them two scores with a muffed punt and a safety when a ball was snapped over the punter's head, not to mention that OSU had a missed extra point, blocked punt, blocked field goal (returned for a touchdown) and several poor kick returns on special teams. They didn't play up to their ranking and deserved the loss.

Penn State:13 first downs, 276 total yards and 2-of-13 third down conversions.
Trace McSorley completed only 8-of-23 pass attempts.
PSU time of possession: 22:41 .

Special teams is of minimal importance. It was just luck, the weather and maybe a little bit of home field advantage.

Penn State Sucks.

EDIT- lest anyone think the post was making fun of PSU, you missed the sarcasm and the point. Credit them for grinding and finding a way to win despite having a so-so night on offense. Defense and special teams won this game for them.

Ohio State lost despite allowing only 13 first downs, 276 total yards and 2-of-13 third down conversions. Penn State beat Ohio State despite a quarterback (Trace McSorley) who completed only 8-of-23 pass attempts and only 22:41 of possession time.

EDIT 2- changed the title because it was too provocative for some.
Here's another interesting statistic(s): PSU 24 - OSU 21 ; OSU 58 - Rutgers zero, squat, nada zilch

Long story short: Penn St sucked , but they beat one of the best.
Hate saying that but the Nits won and that's the statistic that really counts
in the W-L column and B1G standings.
( someone hang me, I'm defending a Nit victory :cry: :chairshot:)
You supply the rope and I'm sure someone will oblige.

@Knight Shift ,

I think you might need one more edit here. Wow. LOL

I love how the OP changes his tune and the thread title when he got blasted. Idiot. Makes it sound like we didnt "understand" his sarcasm. What a buffoon!

That was a brutal blown call.

Brutal? The ball hit the WR in the helmet! Like he was going to make that catch? Had no bearing at all on the game. It all even out like in 2014 when millions of viewers saw that "alleged interception" by the Buckeyes that was clearly on the ground, and the field goal made after time ran out by at least 3 seconds. Game went into OT and OSU won. Then went on to win the N/C.
Even the refs admitted a year later that they blew both calls in a written report. The Buckeyes got two big breaks in that win!

P

Seriously? They just beat the #2 ranked team and you're complaining about the way they did it?

Final score determines the winner, not the stat sheet.
Are these the same posters who are not college football coaches, running every practice/team meeting, who knew all along Gio should have started? What stocks do they recommend?
