Guys

I live in Plainsboro, 25 minutes to the south of the RAC across route one from Princeton

Today...wearing my Rutgers sweatshirt has

-a guy in my development seeing my sweatshirt asking me if I watched the game last night (I was there, duh)

-me walking into the local bagel store and had two people asking me if I watched the RU game

-had the referee of my son’s 7th grade hoops team (I coach) talk to me for 3 minutes abont the game

All in about 75 minutes

I love Rutgers football and have high hopes for the football program

But, Rutgers basketball, man, it’s truly a sleeping giant waiting to happen. I’m not talking about John wooden and UCLA. But the potential of a big time program

I was a kid in the mid 70s (ironically my first game at the garden was Rutgers beating Purdue during the beginning part of the 75-76 season). I’ve seen it before...Rutgers at the garden was an EVENT

We tasted it during the big east tourament run. Got to the semis...we sold the remaining 4500 tickets in 24 hours. Freaking NIT in 2004, we had 12000 and 16000 there. The NIT!!!

Last night was another taste of what could be. The garden was our home court. It was electric. Guy I sat next to who is a Knicks season ticket holder and also comes to the big east tournament said this was the most electric the garden has been in five years ...

Now maybe that’s an exaggeration, but he definetely was wowed

This thing can be big...and we have the right coach win the right support.

Let’s use this tournament run and get behind this program once and for all. People are talking about Rutgers basketball again

Let’s keep them talking about it next year ...and beyond

Was at the Belle Mead Post Office this morning wearing my RU hoodie when a woman wearing a Virginia shirt asked me who won the game because she fell asleep. Said RU was looking good

Damn...I think we would have beaten Penn State. That would have been pretty wild to be in the final.

The past few days have been a little taste of what could be. The NCAA tourney is the best event in sports without RU...it’ll be even better with RU.

Great post! If this helps, I wore my Rutgers jacket in the park today in California, and I had two people come up to me and ask me about last night's game. Not bad.

Shack - great post and great seeing you at the game last night. 100% agree as the most causal friends who I have who are not college bb fans have gone out of their way to comment on our run and almost Cinderella story. This was definitely one of the advantages of having the tourney this week

It was very good to have this tourney early... All eyes were on the Big 10 and it was a great time to have this run.

Went to a friend's 1-year-old daughter's birthday party today and there were probably 20 adults there and probably 5-6 saw some or all of the game - a couple were RU fans and a couple were just hoops fans, but everyone was impressed with RU last night and was wondering how the hell we played so well in the tourney, but only won 3 games in the B1G all season. General agreement that Pike is a very good coach and has the team headed in the right direction. Was nice to have such positive conversations about RU hoops.

Spoke to a Mich fan this morning and he was very impressed with our run. Folks took notice of our team as well as Sanders and Geo.

You got to be beat by now ...

Will you be there for the big east tourney next week
