Guys
I live in Plainsboro, 25 minutes to the south of the RAC across route one from Princeton
Today...wearing my Rutgers sweatshirt has
-a guy in my development seeing my sweatshirt asking me if I watched the game last night (I was there, duh)
-me walking into the local bagel store and had two people asking me if I watched the RU game
-had the referee of my son’s 7th grade hoops team (I coach) talk to me for 3 minutes abont the game
All in about 75 minutes
I love Rutgers football and have high hopes for the football program
But, Rutgers basketball, man, it’s truly a sleeping giant waiting to happen. I’m not talking about John wooden and UCLA. But the potential of a big time program
I was a kid in the mid 70s (ironically my first game at the garden was Rutgers beating Purdue during the beginning part of the 75-76 season). I’ve seen it before...Rutgers at the garden was an EVENT
We tasted it during the big east tourament run. Got to the semis...we sold the remaining 4500 tickets in 24 hours. Freaking NIT in 2004, we had 12000 and 16000 there. The NIT!!!
Last night was another taste of what could be. The garden was our home court. It was electric. Guy I sat next to who is a Knicks season ticket holder and also comes to the big east tournament said this was the most electric the garden has been in five years ...
Now maybe that’s an exaggeration, but he definetely was wowed
This thing can be big...and we have the right coach win the right support.
Let’s use this tournament run and get behind this program once and for all. People are talking about Rutgers basketball again
Let’s keep them talking about it next year ...and beyond
