Perspective on posting here and social media

My view is that anything posted a message board is fair game. Posting generally on Twitter is fine but anything where a person is saying things directly to an athlete (in their Twitter mentions or DMs, comments on their instagram, etc...) is where the line gets crossed.

If you want to write a whole long post here saying Derek Simpson sucks and belongs in D2 I will think you're an idiot but it's fine. If you go on Twitter and are like "@DerekSimpson (or whatever his handle is) How could you miss that shot, go play in D2 you bum!" then you are still an idiot but now you're crossing a line.

This happens everyday. Gotta learn to deal with it.

Exactly. Every HS kid in the country has to go through the same struggles.

And regarding this board? That’s just nonsense.
I think people who even use the “ignore” button are being a little dumb. So someone says something stupid or you disagree with. Or calls you an @sshole. It’s just words online and literally mean nothing.

Tee up the “NickRU is an @sshole” posts haha

I’m talking about the players. If you want these guys to win, just think about what you post. An 18-22 year old reading about how much they suck isn’t good for anyone. It’s the coaches job to correct and build up. If fact all it does is show how much of an ass the poster is.

Pike said he needs to learn to help these kids deal with it lol Pike has the same opinion.
You are a great spin master. So your criticism is helping the players. Got it. 😂 I’m not going to go on about this topic. It’s perspective. Take it or leave it. Just know what you say here does impact players. You choose what you want to do with that and what type of person you want to be.

Oh - so HC Ash/OC McNulty lost because I posted that it was dumb to put 3-4 TEs on the field at the same time?

This has been said about recruiting for years.
“Recruits read here and see posts bashing the team and staff”.
How many recruits have we lost because of a message board?

If we all post like Al then the football team will go 12-0 next year?
We should get on that.

Anyone find it ironic that anonymous posters here are telling college kids to ignore whats said on social media while they themselves have trouble with ignoring what is written on this board by trolls and other posters. LoL.

Haha great point. Not even posts - random tweets send people into a tizzy.

“Players need to deal with it. Also….some random blogger in Indiana said Rutgers sucks. Everyone get outraged and attack him online. He looks like a nerd - attack his appearance too!”

I’m not saying people don’t cross a line or anything, but to a certain extent, when are we going to stop coddling?

This is old guys trying to help young guys deal with an issue old guys don’t know anything about.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.

What happened to that?

Should probably go back to teaching that in schools at a young age.

Artificial Intelligence for one.

An undeveloped mind has no chance against the AI of todays social media platforms. That is a reality.

It makes sense to pay more attention to helping people deal with this - not just in basketball. Smart by pike and staff to give it more focus. It affected him and now he is going to deal with it.

Does anyone here have teenage/early 20 kids?
Unless someone is taking posts here and sharing them on Instagram or TikTok or texting players links - players aren't seeing it

AI? Are you talking about each social medias algorithm? Not sure what that has to do with it.

The issue is that we raised a generation of kids and told them things like “safe spaces” and “no bullies” and blah blah blah. When I was a kid, it was “sticks and stones.”

The reality is that there are mean people in the world. There are bullies. There are people that aren’t going to be in your corner as an individual.

Instead of teaching people that this is the harsh reality, we’ve tried to pretend that that’s not the case. And now we’re surprised people struggle with this stuff?

FWIW I’m 31, not 60. And after my age group is when this stuff starting changing.

Oh the POOR POOR players being paid to play basketball here
dicky thing to say but actually it's a topic of a discussion most don't want to have. yes they are college students. yes, they are 19/20 years old. but SOME of them are cashing out. when you read that Nigel Pack (he's not even a first team all ACC team i don't think) makes $400k per year, when he plays like horseshit, guess what, he's gonna get blasted on twitter, by fans and gamblers alike. these kids want the bag but don't want ANY of the smoke that comes with it.

The thing is that social media (1) enables people to bully you much more efficiently and (2) almost encourages you to bully yourself

I'm not saying the parenting thing has no impact, but the environment is also way different than when we were kids (I'm 32). If there was some asshole at school you had to deal with him at school. You could go home and not deal with him for a while. Now you are constantly bombarded with that shit all the time. And while "just turn it off" is certainly a solution (and the one I've mostly chosen with regards to social media) the sad fact is that most adults, let alone children, do not have the necessary self control.

I love reading about the older generations blasting the younger generation.
We're better than them, they're soft, they're going to ruin the world

"What is happening to our young people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the law. They riot in the streets, inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?"
Plato

“Children; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. They no longer rise when elders enter the room, they contradict their parents and tyrannize their teachers. Children are now tyrants.”
Socrates, circa 470BC

The increase in sports gambling has caused a lot of this. I think there shouldn’t be gambling in college athletics. Pros yes but should not be legal for college kids. Most of these kids can’t buy a beer at the gas station but some guy can put $10,000 of his savings on this guys back. Those guys are also the ones that get more angry and loud when they lose.

Two friends of mine and their families followed a simple rule with message boards when they played high major D1 basketball.

They didn't read them.

And yes, if you rip a kid on their social media you are garbage.

Well I can sympathize with this point because nowadays you’re instantly labeled as weird or different if you don’t have social media.

Even out our age, it’s like social proof in a sense.

Just to be clear, if there anything I’d blame parents on in this matter it’s probably that I believe most a left in the dark on this stuff. My blame falls more on society/school systems teaching kids that the world is a kind place so we should all be kind.

The world can be cruel, and that’s what should be taught. Teach people how to deal with it and that outside forces don’t determine what you are.

I recommend watching The Social Dilemma documentary on Netflix. It’s been around for a while but worth the watch if you care to understand more.

I will also add, the response of “don’t use it” is now outgrown. Saying don’t use social media is akin to saying don’t use the internet, though not exactly the same.

The threats because a degenerate gambler lost his bet is where it crosses the line.

Just a little addition to underscore the danger of AI. Hypothetically, Rivals, like all media, wants to expand it's audience. It creates AI bots to create content gleaned from other sites. The AI notes that controversial, insulting, racists comments generated the largest audience. AI notes the factuality has little impact on reads and advertising rates. Rivals becomes a cesspool., but as this is happening everywhere few blame any single source. Lies are spread, reputations are damaged and no one knows that Good_Knight is just a few lines of code.

This in not just potential. This is going to happen.

TikTok already does this - not for the negative stuff you specify, but for America bad, China good

So all of you who are good with anonymously bashing our guys here are fine with it if I copy your posts, put your name to them and distribute them to your office, friends, etc? It’s only (your) words, right?

This is a strange line to draw.

To go on further about the threat of AI: Levi’s is partnering with an AI company on computer-generated fashion models to “supplement human models.” The company says the move as part of a “digital transformation journey” of diversity, equity, inclusion and sustainability. While that sounds noble on the surface, Levi’s is essentially hiring a robot to generate the appearance of diversity while ridding itself of the burden of paying human beings it wants associated with its brand.

Gambling definitely amplifies anger when your team loses. It’s like you lost twice, but gamblers should also be mad at themselves for being idiots. And yes, there should be no gambling on college sports.

We don’t know the details of Simpsons case in particular but I would venture a guess this “degenerate gambler” are mostly college and post grad kids betting $5-$25 dollars and putting together 10-leg $2 parlays all week lol.

^ Exhibit A why we should all be more positive.
When the AI generates an alternative reality where fake scores, fake broadcasts, fake highlights and stats are all returned and presented to you based on what it wants you to see we should hope that it wants us to see Rutgers win to keep us fat and happy. And it knows that because the positive spin got the most clicks.

I'm gonna go out on a very short limb and say that's untrue. Geo magically appeared on here pretty much the moment he graduated. That makes me think he was around and probably told not to respond to anyone. The head of the Riot Squad is on here. Several current wrestlers have posted on that board. They are definitely here. How much percentage wise? Who knows.

Oh the POOR POOR players being paid to play basketball here

To this point maybe anyone who makes money at anything should be subject to constant scrutiny and public scorn on Twitter, IG, TikTok etc about how much they suck at their job every time their performance is not top notch or they screw up. Good examples would be people posting on social media while at work instead of working, taking extra time for lunch, being late for a meeting....etc.
