Folks, the signs have always been there. The inane player rotations. Inability to run an offense. Poor recruiting and mostly misses in the portal. I have never ignored them but have been bashed for years for bringing them up because pike raised the floor of the program.
The issue is this - we will not only 99 percent miss the dance, but a below .500 year is also not off the table. If the latter happens, Pike absolutely has to go. He will never be able to recruit effectively again (not that he’s done a great job to date). And no one has brought up this - you think Sommerville dortch and grant are sticking around next year if we miss the tourney and finish below .500?

Lathan I'm sure already has one foot out the door.

No one cares what you think

He's done a bad job this year but there's zero chance he's getting fired anytime soon. We know that and it's been rehashed a million times. But I disagree about the three other freshmen leaving.

They can be the centerpieces of a Big Ten program next season. L. Sommerville will draw some interest but he's in line to play 25-30 muinutes a game next year and get a ton of shots. The other two haven't shown anything at the college level to date.

We’ll see when Sommerville is at Creighton (he kind of reminds me of Greg Echinique) and Grant and Dortch surface at somewhere like Fairfield.

Like death and taxes you starting yet another shit on Pike thread is the easiest money someone could make if we were allowed to bet on such things.
Is someone supposed to start a thread praising him?
An emperor has no clothes thread? It’s a sports discussion board, everyone is getting paid. Rutgers is in the process of a fail of epic proportions. One that is about set the program back a decade.
Pike will never sniff another recruiting class like this again. No AAU influencer will ever advise a kid to go to Rutgers, on a national scale. The entire nation Bball community is watching this!
And, Why aren’t Grant and Dorch playing are you kidding me.?
Every coach watching has got to be questioning the program, what Pike is doing, and knowing they can do better themselves.
Pike is an Epic Fail on a national scale !
And he is supposed to be praised? It’s comical

Come on man. You're a reg, you know that every thread is the same from him. I'm not saying it's not justified either but it's beyond irritating and a total "look at me" situation. Maybe we can just have one thread for all of his complaining like the Cuse dumpster fire thread.

Pike has always started seasons slow and has had trouble figuring out his rotations and best pairings. To his credit, he often figured it out later in the year.

This year he welcomed 10 new players to the program. 10!(?). And he brought in a hodge podge of transfers where many couldn’t see the strategy or a scenario in which they could all play together.

I said before the season one of my concerns would be pike struggling to figure out rotations and it would be complicated by too many options (question marks) to work with. And with the Players Era tournament and must win games so early in the year there was real danger looming.

In the end I don’t think he’s found the right recipe yet, but in fairness to him (and to his fault) the quality isn’t there to succeed even when he lands on what fits well.

How can he possibly recruit after this? After completely muffing TWO TOP THREE DRAFT PICKS.... and NOT MAKING THE NCAA tournament, what HS kid is going to want to play here?

You'd have to be insane.

Ace and Dylan are thriving and showcases their talents. If they came in as nba lottery prospects and Pike somehow messed them up so bad they didn’t showcase anything I’d get it. The only way you get lottery picks unless your a blue blood id $ or close relationships. Nothing this year changes that.

The problem with Pike is that he has to deal with the NIL era, but he really is a “lunch pail” coach who likes to build players over time, and if he doesn’t get with the program soon, he’ll screw up next years team as well. Let’s hope he can get there

Top notch coaches can figure out their rotations after a couple weeks of practice. That said, I saw some definite improvements in our offense vs. Nebraska. Instead of driving out of control we looked to be looking more to kick it out for three and then rotating he ball to find the open man. As Ace said after the game we looked connected. It shouldn't take this long though, even with so many new players. It's not like all the newcomers never played before.

Idk if it “shouldn’t take this long” or not. I think this was a complex group of pieces to navigate.

Not when freshman are involved. They don't become ready at the same rate.

If you can keep Grant and Sommerville as building blocks for next year and fill in with better players with revenue sharing, we might be ok next year.

Sommerville is a nice player but I'm not sure he has a position in the Big 10.

The three freshman starters (I think) at Duke say hello along with the fab 5 from Michigan. I think there have been a lot of teams with multiple freshmen starters that figured it out way before us, and with freshmen not nearly as good as ours.
To an extent but we have 2 NBA guys they had 4-5. We are also still dealing with the Covid players who are in their 6th-7th year of college

Yet the two examples you gave both had higher ranked freshman than ours. Dukes freshman class this year is LOADED, and the Fab 5 might have been better w four of the top what, 11 recruits. Grant didn't even play last year.

Everyone is so excited to rebuke me after I made that post. Reality is that he still deserves all the criticism for getting us into the deep hole as well as the two seasons before this. Let’s wait and see what happens the next few games.

We all know that you care more about your ridiculous posts on this board and you're hoping he fails so GFY.

Those 2 are potentially better than those 4-5,
We are talking Kobe like franchise guys in Ace and Dylan vs Howard, Rose, Webber.
Big Difference between Kobe and those guys.
I believe Dylan and Ace are closer to Kobe, Jordan impact than Howard Webber impact
And this kid Grant gives us 3. He is at least as good as Ray Jackson.
Steve Fisher would have more wins with this group than Pike has now.
The team played great at Nebraska, Pikes best game yet!
Hopefully the team makes the tournament, If they don’t it’s on Pike he underperformed, took him to long to figure it out. Leaving little to no room for error.
He could do nothing about Harper getting sick, I get it.
that said Coaching can easily be blamed for 2 of Rutgers losses this season at a minimum.
Just my opinion!
Go RU!

This is true
And that fab 5 played at a time that was dominated by upperclassmen

Not sure what you are talking about in terms of how much better you think Dylan and Ace and the RU roster compares to the Fab 5.

Fab 5 recruit rankings (overall)...

Webber #1
Howard #4
Rose #9
King #11
Jackson #46

You mean like Painter....oh wait he has 10 guys who have been in the program 2-4 years.
