Not all game winners but so many huge clutch shots. If you don’t know this you didn’t watch last season. For a guy who wasn’t all that amazing most games his ability to make the big shot was even more impressive

You did have to love the way Pike smothered Carr though, that man was not gonna be able to shoot down 5
I was thinking about the same thing. He has dribbled it off his foot too many times in this situation to trust JY. Hell, JY dribbled it of his foot just two possessions before the last one and then fouled the guy that he kick it to. those 2 foul shots put Minny down by 3. I love JY, but he has had a habit of losing focus in crunch time.
Make no bones about it, JY was magnificent today. With that said, I still want the ball in Geo's hand at the end of the game. I know one can point to JY's dominance today, but we've seen on at least 3 separate occasions where JY at the end of the half has either dribbled the ball off his foot, lost the ball entirely or made a bad pass. Still, if it wasn't for JY we would not have had the last shot in regulation, and Minny could have gone down the other way and broken our hearts.
I knew exactly whaat you were talking about even before you qualified "untouchably." Thanks for the kind words, and for the metaphorical conversation. When all is said and done--happy ending or not--I never metaphor I didn't like.
Nowhere near as good as Pike. He took an 11-16 team and in four years turned it into a different 11-16 team. Never made the tourney and had an overall losing record. Waters was a better coach than Bannon.

Ill give you that Dave. But when I think coach, I think of recruiting, player development, keeping the players focused on bball and school, and most of all in game performance. Iirc, the Big East back then was a pretty damn tough league too plus I think we got screwed over 1 year and should have been in. Gary was up there too. But anywho. I'm far away from Pikeill sucks.

To the OP, so ridiculous. JY has an out of control, turnover, problem. He has streaky offensive talent. But he is the definition of a risky bet at the end of a game with the ball in his hands. Baker can make his own shot, and wasn't having a bad game at all. Can you make an argument for not giving the ball to Baker? Sure. I'd disagree and point to so many games that Baker won for us with last minute heroics, even when he wasn't having the best game. I guess you missed those games because you aren't a real RU fan?
Also, on JY's best game at Rutgers, we BARELY beat a bad Minny team that is not going to the NCAA Tournament. Why give the ball to Geo? Because we need to get Geo going if we are to win in the post season. If we have to rely on JY, if JY is the best player on the team by far, we aren't a very good team. That's not saying JY isn't a great player. But to be a great team we need more than just JY. So that's why you still keep giving the guys like Geo the ball.
Also, on the final shot of regulation, Geo almost made the game winning shot. I want him taking that shot every time.

Who thought 3 years ago that we would be tied for 6th place in the Big. Back then some said we would be relegated to the bottom of the conference forever. Based on some of the comments, it would mean that about 10 coaches in the league should be gone!!! Pike has made us relevant and competitive in the toughest conference in the country.
Pike gave JY like 3-4 end of half shots before the last game. None converted. JY had a WHALE of a game against Minny. Geo is still the last shot-all day long.
