Pitino is a class guy and if it's true that he's shocked and knew nothing, he should be fine.
He certainly doesn't need the $100 k.

Louisville press conference at 1pm with interim president, Pitino/Jurich not expected to be there which likely means they've been fired.
A shame that a righteous moral role model like Pitino is muddied from his virtuous calling developing high character scholars at the zenith of erudition, Louisville. :flush:
Like many scumbag coaches, Pitino is a master at maintaining deniability, but his time has probably finally come.
He get his buyout. Next will be the book, which will be filled with deniability. Our local radio stations will kiss his butt when they have him on to promote the book

If Pitino is guilty......
1. Louisville basketball should be shut down for at least a season or 2 (bare minimum)
2. All players are free to transfer and play immediately (if clean), if not clean....
3. Players get 1 week to pay back anything received free of penalty and have to sit out a year and lose it as eligibility
4. If they don't go down this path and are found to have received anything they permanently lose amateur status

You don't get a do-over once you get paid or hire an agent. Any player involved can go to Europe, China or Israel to continue their pro career if not good enough for the NBA.

I'm sure Haley Jurich went through a rigorous screening and hiring process, one not seen since Petrino's selection of Jessica Dorrell.
2 questions:
1. What does the NCAA do to UL? They aren't blue blood enough to avoid sanctions. There's certainly lack of institutional control there.
2. Is the death penalty a possibility for UL Hoops? With 15 tteams the ACC can work around UL not having a basketball program. How heavy can you sanction a basketball program?

How long have I - and others - been telling this board that Pitino, along with almost EVERY Big East coach of the early 80's to early 00's, were the ones who took "pay-for-play" - in regards to AAU coaches and high school kids throughout the northeast - and made it what it has become?!! I have said time-and-time again that Pitino was and is - arguably - the BIGGEST scumbag out there (along wth Cal, and I can't wait for that "shoe" to drop!) and always has been!!!
These guys use to attend Pete Carrill's camp at Princeton (Jadwin Gym) every summer for one of the top hoops camps in the nation at the time. They also used to go to dinner in what was, at the time, a densely-populated section of Trenton known as "Chambersburg" - at the time probably 90% Italian with some of the best Italian restaurants in the state, as well as one of the best burger joints (Rossi's) and hot dog joints (Conte's) to go along with them - and eat/drink almost on a nightly basis. This is one of the places that the the "brown bag" deals - through AAU coaches/reps and guys like Sonny Vaccaro - took place for years and years.
As someone who grew up nearby, with a family loaded with TCHS alumni from the 50's and early 60's friends - as well as family friends - lots of restaurant businesses in-and-around that area (as well as the city hall area a few blocks away), I always I hated hearing the stories - specially when SHU blew up - while RU was beginning it's slide in the 90's.
Princeton and Trenton, being along the I-95 corridor from Boston-to-DC, and stop on the NEC line of NJ Transit, were very easy locations for most BE coaches and AAU guys to "meet."

Bruce Pearl is a personable fellow (his Boston College education notwithstanding), but he is sleazy.
Nuts.. any stories going back to the time when Rutgers was talking about a Fab 5.. I forget who they all were.. but it always seemed odd to me that the recruits were all talking up this possibility.. UNTIL the summer basketball camps.. ABCD I think it was.. where the dream just went *poof*.
I loved Diamond's restaurant over there.
The cheating has been rampant forever as you've stated. Always found it funny how some of the players I knew who came from nothing were driving Mercedes and BMW's while in school.

I miss all the restaurants in the Burg, it was our go to place for holiday parties.
Pitino is 64 years old and has millions of dollars. It was time to retire anyway. So long he doesn't do jail time- he doesn't care. He has scum bagged his way thru life.
Doves hopefully was tongue in cheek. Pitino denied knowledge--Bowen just fell into his lap with no effort--except the 100K his Dad got. Last year, an assistant was pimping for the players--Pitino had no knowledge. A few years ago, he was caught nailing some woman who wasn't his wife on top of a restaurant table. Must have been his long-lost twin brother. Can't skate forever. What does he do next? He has plenty of money, so why not write a book? How much would Random House pay him for that, and maybe they will provide an attractive ghost writer. Bye, bye, Little Ricky.

So do I...THANKFULLY places like DeLorenzo's (coming to PA soon!) and Rossi's moved to Hamilton and Robbinsville. Rossi's I can walk to from my parent's house! Unfortunately a lot of the great, true "Italian" restaurants, never bothered.
