Their continued playing time may say volumes about the team's lack of quality depth and player development. On good teams, subpar play at least gives "next man up" playing time.

Federico is awful. The one thing you need in a kicker is consistency which he doesn't have. He can't make kicks when he's kicking from "right to left". He always hooks them far left.

What happened to Muller? Kid was supposed to be a promising lineman and has not delivered.

I won't even comment on Denman.

The Oline situation is not in a good place right now or for the foreseeable future.

I've been saying this for awhile!! Our LACK of "quality depth," in most position groups, is scary.

"Depth" DOES NOT automatically = quality!!!

...the fact that posters were shooting down experts, regarding the pee-season rankings of our position groups, was stunning to me.

Am I missing something about Lewis? Seems to have been pretty good. How about Isaiah Johnson?

Longa and Gause have been great, so maybe I just haven't noticed.

Not really sure why Lewis and Muller are on this list. Lewis would be having a much better season if the front four did their job. The front four if they are not being disruptive they at least need to occupy a blocker to free up the LB's to make plays. They have done neither making the LB's job much more difficult.

Muller is by far the best linemen. Only issue with him is he is constantly having to deal with marking his man and cover for the person to his right and to a lesser extent the person to his left. Denman is tough to watch on pass plays. He is fine as a run blocker when he is heading north south, not very good when heading east west.

The issue with RU on both sides of the ball is they fail to set the edge. On defense the ends never set the edge and turn things back inside. On Offense the Tight End and Tackle have difficulty setting the edge. If you are trying to be a physical football team it all starts with the ability to set the edge.

Lewis continually gets sucked up by blockers and leaves gapping holes. Noticed significantly in Wisc and PSU games. Is Mueller our most penalized lineman? He probably blocks better than Dennam but his penalties have caught my eye. Flood needs to shakeup the starting lineups but he's proving to be set in his ways.

2 of the 3 running backs need to sit. Can Flood just pick one?? This running back by committee sucks!

Leading to my point about the front 4 if they are not going to be disruptive they need to occupy blockers to free up the LB's.I have been hard on the LB's this year but after focusing on the front 4 the past 2 games they are the problem with the entire d. They do not get off blocks they do not make many plays and they do not get to the QB on passing plays. Which all lead to the LB's not being free to run in space and it puts undue pressure on the inexperienced db's to cover for an eternity.

Lewis plays in quicksand. He does not move, does not shoot gaps or avoids O linemen. I have watched him run directly into linemen and take himself out of plays leaving huge gaps for the RB.

Muller is so overrated but Denman is the most troubling OL we have.

I haven't noticed that many penalties or heard #70 being called. I'm not going to name names but there are at least 2 OL's I've heard a lot and neither was Chris.

Well, it's not like our head coach has any experience with OL.

on O:
Denman. Bergen, Arcidiacono, and yes Laviano.
on D
Cioffi, Hester, Wharton, Lewis, Mera, Lambert, Pinnix-Odrick.

Of course, we have extremely limited alternatives to these guys.
I'd also like to see one of the freshmen wideouts get a shot.

A qb who has been to the Super Bowl (the Super Bowl!) is being evaluated and will likely sit (Kaepernick).

But at RU the qb can't be evaluated. Strains credulity.

Hard to believe the placeholder theory that Laviano plays this year and Retting is being pushed out to make Russo the starter without controversy, but that makes as much sense as scoring a handful of few points in multiple games and not trying something new.

Lewis just doesn't seem to fill the gaps often enough. Not sure it's on the DL all the time.

I actually believe Cioffi, Hester, Wharton, Lambert and Pinnix Odrick have all had good moments. And any combination of great throws, rb and wr talent, youth, offensive game planning, and poor defensive coaching have affected they're respective play. At the end of the day, our defense can't be out there 75% of the time.

So have the other guys on my list....just far too few of them.
And our safeties are awful.

Turay has been virtually invisible this season. Is he hurt or just not playing well?

Flood mentioned that he is hurt enough that he isn't practicing. Which begs the question of why Flood would roll him out there game after game when he can't help the team. It's shades of Coleman all over again. If a guy can't be effective you're only hurting him and the team by putting him on the field.

agreed. Better he be medically red-shirted than waste a year's eligibility.

I think Flood said that Turay missed some practices when he was listed on the weekly injury report earlier in the season. He is no longer listed on the report and I would expect him to be practicing daily. He showed no sign of injury against Indiana picking up the punt for a TD.

He mentioned him not practicing recently, though I suppose it could have just been an awkwardly worded answer.

I look at the topic from a different perspective. The absence of playmakers at almost every position is a nicer way of saying that better talent and a coaching upgrade is required to successfully compete in the B1G without naming individuals.

I believe it may have just been understood. I think he discussed how little he did practice prior to the season and while on the injured list. Not that he isn't practicing now. But a slight drop wasn't unexpected even if healthy and DH in there. Being dinged, DH out and our inability to cover...there are just a ton on getting to the QB a fraction late or just a step behind.

Wow, you really don't know much about offensive line play do you. Your one of those fans that only recognizes the Oline when a penalty occurs. Coming from a former O lineman I'm appalled at your assessment of Muller's play. He has been one of our most consistent and better blockers. You want to point fingers look at Denman's play and Nelson's. Huge disappointments. Denman needs to be moved to guard his lateral movement is nonexistent. I would have Muller take his place. Miller needs to slide to center. Than insert one of the younger OG into the line up. This way you protect him between two of our better OL in Lumpkin(who has not played to his potential) and Miller. Nelson needs to be taken out he is getting overpowered and has trouble knowing where to slide during blitz pickup which leaves him standing there with no one to block on several occasions. Learn what you're watching before you start calling for heads.

On the money.
See, sometimes it DOES pay to read this board.
Thanks.

Thanks. You spell like a former lineman. The word is "appalled." I appreciate the line analysis. I played qb and rb and tend to watch the ball. Thought the problem was with one lineman because of the whistles but sounds like it's another.

Someone should email Flood suggestions so then he can ignore them.
