we’ve had a number of issues this season, but there are two areas that I think completely plaque this team/program.

1. Too many dumb mistakes.

I view mistakes as penalties, dropped passes, wrong assignment/not knowing the play.

2. Lack of big plays.

I’d define this as any offensive play 20+ yards. Chunk yardage to put a defense on their heels or flip the field.

You can choose one, but you’ll have to keep the other, which would you prefer to see instantly fixed in 2023?

I would say 50% less mistakes because we have had numerous mistakes this season. Those mistakes have lead to both offensive and defensive struggles. And have effected score more than anything.

50% more big plays would not lead to a sizable difference being we have had very few big plays. So 50% increase of a small number is still a small number.

Can we ask for better coaching to put players in a better position to succeed?
Greg discussed this at his presser that it is a 3 part deal: coaching, execution by the players, and the opponent (maybe the other side are too good to let RU succeed on a perfectly coached and executed play). On the coaching, Greg said that maybe they did not explain it well enough or a concept needs reinforcement. Execution is self-explanatory.

Can't do anything about the opponent. But coaching/execution is on our team.

Do interceptions and pick sixes fall into that category? Asking for a friend.

Gavin throwing a nice ball and defender making a good play - no.

Gavin lobbing the ball into the secondary with no receiver making a play on the ball - yes

When has Greg ever been a guy to sell his players down the river?

Remember the BC game when the players and coaches did everything right to March down to the 4 yard line.

Only to get like 5 straight penaliries and end up 4th and goal from the 45.

It’s been an issue all year long

He still throws around "young" (not Avery or Aaron) as an excuse.

The mistakes and penalties have been really annoying. Hopefully it improves next year when the team has more experience. I remember some tweet before the season that 75% of our players are underclassmen.

Gavin not recognizing a coverage and throwing a pick six because he hasn't been taught to read defenses is a coaching problem.

Perhaps that’s why he wasn’t playing earlier in the year.

Maybe that coaching issue has been resolved.

I think Gavin has looked better each week.

Big plays would be a welcome thing however less penalties and less mistakes might make the former a reality not a pipe dream.
