There's only 1 guy on that list with a proven record at more than 1 FBS school over more than a couple of seasons and a NJ guy. If not Greg, then Golden is the guy I would want above all others. He and Greg are the only two I could see competing for players in NJ and around vs. PSU, Mich, and Ohio St.

Didn't Babers just take the UCF job?
That's been denied for now, it could become official later though. I think someone said his buyout drops by a 100K on 12/1.

As for candidates and realistic name, again write in Dave Aranda Wisconsin DC. I've put up a few articles about him multiple times here.

I think Rich Rodriguez or Lane Kiffin would make my A list. I believe that Herman or Whittingham would not give us a look.

The B list to me offers very little upside. Better than Flood probably, but the upside will be marginal at best. Our expectation are so low we're contemplating coordinators who are unproven as HC's or current HC's who have found success playing inferior competition.

I THINK CUSE HAS HIM AS AN OPTION IF Scott Frost turns them down...on their board they expected a 9 am announcement that hasn't happened yet. They claim Babers is plan B,

Solid hire if Cuse gets Frost. I'm not sold on him yet because experience was a little too short but I liked how they bounced back this year with Adams. You want to see that same performance post Mariota. DC choice would be big though. If they get Aranda, :( lol.

But this is just another example again of people who talk down our job. P5 jobs aren't a dime a dozen and you can attract solid candidates from the coordinator and mid major HC level. I've been saying this many times but it doesn't seem to sink in always.

What is the average age for the people voting Schiano? I say 60 years old

YEAH...we knew how things were 35 yrs pre AND post GS....some of us don't have 40 plus yrs to gamble to see that pride again and savage D and ST's..

Aranda could be great- a superb defensive coordinator. But don't know about his recruiting ability.

wow...how nasty it gets on this board when people don't agree...Season ticket holder for 18 years...seen the bad and the good....I am in my 50's and don't want Greg back...he was always challenged as a game day coach and got the program to his maximum potential...now it is someones opportunity turn to take it from there. If he comes back, we will never be able to get rid of him...if he was that in demand, he'd already be at the U.

That would be a thing with him. I don't hear much about that but the other side of that is he's been doing it with lesser rated recruits anyway so he's making it work without stellar recruiting.

I don't think Pelini could last with the media here.

I was thinking the same thing with Bob Diaco. I've seen many of his UCONN press conferences and he's one of the most honest coaches I've seen. No "coach speak" with this guy. He'll call out players, coaches, referees, etc. A lot of people don't like him for this reason. I think the NJ/NYC media would have a field day with him.

Schiano or 'other'. Everyone else just seems like same old thing. Not saying one or two might be a breakout stud coach but I'm tired of Rutgers bringing in the up and coming guy who might be the next big thing and not the big time guy (Atleast in the eyes of society and recruits). Having barchi say he will do what ever it takes to get the best guy to succeed is BS because we all know that means 'best guy within the budget I'm setting behind the scenes' and doesn't fit most of the "other" candidates fans want. I def am hesitant about an ex-interim AD from SHU but hopefully inherent in that is bringing in a real big time type guy who gets more control over things and the AD will just stay back and do his thing without making waves.

I really like Diaco. Did a really, really good job at UCONN this year. Brian Kelly had him as his DC at Central Michigan, then at Cincinnati, then at Notre Dame. Born in NJ. Only 42 years old.

I think he is in that Narduzzi/Herman tier of next really good HC's.

I would start by seeing if there were a possibility for Mullen or Richt. Might as well start high and see if there is a possibility.

The Kiffin/Pelini/Tressel supporters really need to think about other coaches. Barchi is not hiring someone with a suspect background (that he knows about). Mullen and Richt may well be out of our league, but I hope we explore that.

After that, I would go for Rhule, and possibly Fleck. Also like Taggert and Fritz. Not wild about Schiano (but would not be crazed). Not wild about Cristobal or Golden. Don't see the record of accomplishment.

MIke Teel mentioned Ed Warinner as someone familiar with Jersey recruiting. What about him?
