"Chris is our starting quarterback, and we try to give him opportunities to learn through the game."

So I predict no changes on the horizon ... let's go 1 and 0 next week! :)

The both look bad

A follow-up question probably should have been, "And how many opportunities to learn do you think Laviano needs? Until you're finaly out of a job??"

Flood is the single biggest moron coaching college football today. I hope that - FINALLY - all our fans realize this and that THIS is the reason Jersey kids DO NOT want to play for the guy. "Oh, but they all LOVE him, they say so" hahahahaha bullshit!

Coach Flood has had enough time to grow into a head coach at this level. I was willing to give him a shot when he was hired and I made that defense early on. However, he has blown the opportunity of his life time.

It reminds me of how they said players loved to play for Rex Ryan. Well none of them took any discounts to play for him, so they don't love him that much.

If everyone loves Flood they should be knocking down the door to play for him.

Even my wife knows Rettig is clearly the guy. Flood is and always has been a position coach.

But this is what you get with the Rutgers Admin.

Laviano looked terrible but Rettig doesn't win us this game. This is on the coaches. One dimensional play calling with zero adjustments. Wisconsin made an adjustment after the first drive and Flood continued with the same retarded play calling.

This coaching staff is incapable of making adjustments.

"Laviano looked terrible but Rettig doesn't win us this game. "

I never understand why people feel this way. We don't know how the game could have turned out if Rettig started the second half or started the game. All we know is how the game played out with Laviano for 3 1/2 quarters.

People act like comebacks with a QB replacement never happen or that the choice of QB wouldn't have made any difference at all. That's ridiculous. If we actually move the ball rather than 3 and outs, we help the defense stay strong. If we put points on the board we keep the game close.

The QB makes a huge difference. We've now seen at least three entire games where Laviano couldn't put points on the board. That should be reason enough for anyone to make a switch

But Rettig gives RU a much better chance in the more winnable games like Nebraska, Maryland and Army. The guy has a cannon for an arm.

I took a lunch break at half time.Figured the score would be about what it was when I got back to watching at the start of the 4th quarter.Promised myself that I would NOT watch the rest of the game if Rettig was not playing.I watched and although Hayden didn't throw that well, except for the long bomb,I put it down to the fact that he hasn't been allowed to get any P/T and it was like getting thrown to the wolves dressed as a lamb chop. He has a great arm, needs to get P/T/

Flood is a meathead incapable of thinking on the fly. He named his starting QB and that means he gets to start no matter what, regardless of how badly they play.

These cockamamie excuses are nothing more than making up for his short comings and inability to try something different.

He says he wants to be a run first offense, and nothing will deviate from that, even though other teams just play him to do just that.

He is a meathead.

Can't argue with that. Gave up my tickets after he proclaimed Nova his QB & into the next year after Nova threw 5 or was it six interceptions against, i believe Kent State. You could see the train wreck coming.

Well, when he's gone at the end of the year he can reflect back on the grave he dug. Makes me wonder if it is about going 1-0 or just trying to prove to everyone he is right.

I can't believe Kyle actually said that after the game. Don't know what his obvious negative opinion or faith in Rettig may be but it's not only wrong but hurts the team. And if not Hayden then try someone else and let them learn. The way he handles qb's is so poor that it is not only embarassing but why would any qb of any ability want to play at Rutgers. Is the problem Kyle, McDaniels, Fridge or something else? But bottom line it rests with the head coach who is in charge. Yo let Laviano continue to play as ineffective ad he was today is an embarassment to Jim and not really much of a learning situation. Not even if he was taken out for one series would thst hsve hurt anything more than leaving him in. Sort of reminds us of the 5 interception fiasco that Flood let happen to Nova or even the VTech game.

The longer this continues we can look forward to other schools contacting our verbals snd picking them off money by one. It is bound to happen. And a lot of this is not about money it is about failure of the head coach to do a decent job and being a leader.

Just so sad to get such a gift job and to totally blow it

It isn't really a gift when you aren't prepared to be there.

He was the recipient of an administration who values revenue neutrality over winning. Nothing more.

No but it was a gift by any measure for Flood. Just not a realistic one for the rest of us. His bank account says thank you.

Wow. If that quote is really what he said, wow.

WE DID NOT GET PAST OUR OWN 26 YARD LINE ON SIX STRAIGHT POSSESSIONS WITH LAVIANO IN THE SECOND HALF. IT WAS NOT WORKING. CHANGE THE PLAY CALLING OR CHANGE THE PLAYERS!

I think at this point Flood knows that if Rettig comes in and is notably better than that will just stoke the fire about what took so long to make the change. Therefore he will ride Laviano to his grave and if they should win a couple of games down the stretch against a mediocre Nebraska team and Maryland he will proclaim that Laviano's growth was the reason. Its hard to type this as a serious statement but I cannot for the life of me figure how what else he could be thinking.

He did this to Nova, too. Laviano is mentally done. To keep running him out there, thinking he's learning is just mind numbingly stupid. He looks shell shocked, a shadow of the player he was even a few weeks ago. It literally is not fair to Laviano to keep playing him with the fan base in an uproar and all the pressure on a kid who clearly is imploding and in need of a break.

But he will. We've seen it before. Man, Kyle Flood is one stubborn guy. I'd say, look for Laviano to regress even further but I don't think it can get any worse.

Here is the quote as reported by the APP:

"“Those are decisions that I have to make,” Flood said. “Chris is our starting quarterback and we are trying to give him enough opportunities to learn through the game. If the opportunity is there to give Hayden experience, we’ll do that. We did it again this week like we did last week.”

“It’s just a matter of when you make the decision,” Flood said. “I decided I wasn’t going to make that decision until the fourth quarter and then in the fourth quarter we got Hayden in there.”

Flood doesn't understand that putting him out there is hurting any development he might. Watching sometimes is really good.

Agreed. And the stubbornness shines through on the, “I decided I wasn’t going to make that decision until the fourth quarter and then in the fourth quarter we got Hayden in there.”

Well if that's his attitude, (and this is coming from a big-time homer), Rettig might be playing in the 4th Q next week after Michigan totally blows us out in the first three quarters. Especially if Carroo sits again, there is no way we will score more than 10 points on offense in the big house based on what we saw today.

I hate the guy. Enough. My family and I give tons of dough to the school for many years. I agree with everyone above. Get rid of him and his lazy ignorant ass.

In the admin defense we weren't getting ANY decent coach at that time. But once B1G invite came the wheels should have been put in motion. He was unqualified as a HC. Chances of him becoming a good one were slim and he certainly had no cache with recruits.

The sad thing is that Flood was pretty much locked into this decision at the beginning of the season. It doesn't matter how Laviano actually plays, a decision has been made regardless. Flood isn't capable of that type of reactive thought.

I hate to keep throwing out my history and dedication to the program but I missed only like my 6th ot 7th game in 39 years (OSU) due to a family obligation (and the joke I knew the game to be)..and I am going to West Point because that is special and we have a group thing going... but other than that I cannot say I am going to either of the final 2 home games at this point.

This staff and this HC is a DISASTER and breaking down whatever Schiano built...Shea didn't have the players but he was a far better head coach.

So what he's saying is EVEN IF it was 72-0, at half, Laviano STILL would have been in there. Anyone ever seen the movie "dumb and dumber"?? Wow!
