Sure wish I had those crucial Yale results, but notwithstanding that key metric, I'm predicting 18 total wins, including one in the B1G tourney.

Michigan State listed twice as away games.Missing Florida State game at home.

If coach Pike thinks this team is better defensively then last year, that by itself should be good for at least 2 or 3 more wins. Coach Pike gave the impression that this team is more capable of scoring. Based on this information and the fact several teams (B1G) ranked ahead of Rutgers have more questions leads me to believe Rutgers will perform better than expected.

I see an improved team, but only 13/14 regular season wins. I think we will struggle in Big Ten play, although I would be surprised if we experience any blowouts. A key concern is the five spot. I am a big fan of Doucoure, but he is a year away in my view. Good size, lots of athleticism, but he will look clumsy and slow at times as he adjusts to the speed of the game and the strength of upperclassman he faces. He still needs to learn how to play at this level - not a criticism, simply true of many freshman big men. There is a lot for him to learn and implement. Could Doorson be improved - likely, but I do not envision a big improvement. Neither Doucoure nor Doorson will provide any consistent offense this season. I just do not envision much from Johnson as a freshman.

My other concern is outside shooting. I believe folks are overly optimistic about Baker. He has some talent, but again, he is a freshman. He also is making a major leap from less than stellar high school competition to a very competitive college league. I accept that he has shown talent in workouts, but that is a world of difference from actual games. I expect he will show flashes, but overall will be inconsistent and will not shoot well this season. Without a true inside game, our outside shooting will be difficult to markedly improve. Opponents will be able to cheat on defense as they will not have to be concerned about inside offensive play.

On the positive side I fully expect increased tenacity and efficiency defensively. We fell into too many lackluster streaks last season, and had too many mental errors. I do not expect that to occur this year. Folks have bought into the coaching schemes, and are well positioned to perform at a high level.

It will be a fun year. I suspect that opponents are not going to be pleased to play us. Lots of close games. I just think we are a year away from material improvement in the ultimate wins column. We will scare a lot of teams, however.
