Care to go through each weight class and make your prediction for each NCAA champ this year?

Could be an interesting exercise.

Feel free to add the other finalist as well if you want to add more to the post.

- Suriano
- Ash if he's healthy and mobbin
- Lewis if someone can take down Nolf

:sunglasses:

I actually meant around the NCAA. For all teams. Only because I haven't sat down and looked at the rankings fully yet.

I'm also curious if any frosh or redshirts from last year (guys not in the tournament last year) have a chance at top 4 or so around the country, just to get an idea on how close the rankings are to reality.

I'll take a stab:

125 - Suriano (RU)
133 - Gross (SDSU)
141 - Heil (OK St)
149 - Retheford (PSU)
157 - Nolf (PSU)
165 - Martinez (Ill)
174 - Hall (PSU)
184 - Nickal (PSU)
197 - Haught (V Tech)
HWT - Snyder (OSU)

I realize these are mostly favorites, but I just think the tops at most weights are that dominant, especially the PSU guys, Heil and Snyder.

125-Suriano
133-Brock
141-McKenna
149-Zain Retherford
157-Nolf
165-Martinez
174-Valencia
184-Nickal
197-Moore
Hwt-Snyder

All the predictions are just going to be the top 3 ranked guys at every weight class in the rankings...

Ok then lets really make it fun... Pick a darkhorse at each weight... (wrestler must be ranked outside top 8....) then we revisit this thread in March and see who the best Nostradamus is!!!

My pre-season picks

125 - Suriano
133 - Micic
141 - Jack
149 - Retherford
157 - Nolf
165 - Massa
174 - Valencia
184 - Nickal
197 - Moore
285 - Snyder

  • Suriano is going to be on a mission this year.
  • Micic can score on anyone.
  • Jack finally breaks through to take down Heil.
  • No one is on Zain's level in that weight class.
  • Its hard to go against Nolf, even though I am optimistic about Lewis.
  • Massa pulls it out at 165.
  • Valencia is better than Hall imo and lost last year on a fluke.
  • Don't know much about the competition other than Nickal at 184
  • Same for Moore at 197.
  • No one is on Snyder's level.

Here is my take:
125 Suriano
133 Delvecchio
141 Ashnault
149 DeLuca
157 Lewis
167 Van Brill
174 Pagano
184 Gravina
197 Mulligan
285 Gross
Coach of the year Goodale

Bill, my only issue with your predictions is that there's no 167 lb class. But if you change it to 165 I'll get behind you on these!

In all honesty, I think we can really compete for an AA (barring health) at 125, 133, 141, 157, and 184. It'd be a nice surprise for any others. I'm pretty sure everybody SHOULD make it to the tournament, at the very least.

There was a 167 when I was st RU in the 50’s. My Deke brothers both wrestled in that spot. Sorry to show my age Phila.
