Purdue HC Versyp diagnosed with breast cancer

Sharon Versyp must have had the diagnosis before they played the game versus Maryland yesterday, but it was supposedly found early so there is a good prognosis.
Can't tell if the team knew before the game or not.

She intends to continue coaching in the post season (they are hoping for NCAA bid).

I am hoping that Coach Stringer can share her experience and encouragement with Coach Versyp.

Nuts. I do hope they caught it early and that she recovers fully.

Coach Versyp is a lovely woman and I wish her all the best. Back in 2009 when RU lost to Purdue in the Sweet 16 game out in Oklahoma City, she gave several of the RU fans that ran into her tickets behind the Purdue bench for the Elite 8 game, as once RU lost, you no longer had seats and had to buy them. Of course the new seats you could purchase were not as good as the ones you already had. As our fans had already made a long trip to get to OK, most were planning to stay for the entire regional, so this was a really nice gesture.
