Purple lot cops on ATVs

IF they REALLY need the horizontal access all they need to do is leave a space between the cars every few rows instead of having them all the way bumper to bumper.
again like the other thread...step back and think dammit. (then again this would also require a parking attendant IQ of average or better yet some training to be fair). OR since these fields are not used for anything else during the season (right?) put up some temp rope/fencing as guides. (and yeah..I know this doesn't work in the paved lots)
Some have offered to do the thinking part already.

I had multiple conversations with the deputy chief of Rutgers PD last year. He told me that there were supposed to be foot patrols only thru the aisles & the ATVs were for up &,down the perimeter. that held true most of last year and up until yesterday in the Blue Lot. Early in the AM they came through on their ATV's down the first row.

Shortly after, the people at the far end of the row, set their tent up ...IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AISLE. I can't make this up. seriously, right smack in the middle of the aisle. Back of the tent towards the soccer stadium, cars to the left and right. No LEO's bothered them at all.

This really is deja vu all over again. You and I had a coorspondence about this same thing a year ago. Cannot believe we are still dealing with it.

And this is the kind of stuff that is so annoying.

WE are trying to help out and offer suggestions yet it feels like nobody cares or something else.

For comparison, this week we had 11.5 hours of tailgating for our game v Iowa this week. We set up right off the main gravel road for our lot and are a fairly B1G group of up to 30 young professionals, roughly 25-50, OK some of us aren't that young anymore. :) During the course of the day there were about (5) 2 person patrols that walked by so roughly once every other hour. We smile, wave, ask if they need water, we even got one patrol to play a round of Giant Jenga this week. Typically there will also be an occasional 2 person mountain bike patrol. All patrols pretty much stick to the perimeters unless the is a group of of obvious students of questionable age. Typically they walk by without saying much, checking for suspicious guilty behavior, and will occasionally will card students if they look young enough. I'm not sure of official policies but these are my observations. Even when they "catch" underagers I'm not sure summons are issued unless they get attitude from the kids. I think they usually just make then dump their beer. I could be wrong on that though.

Edited to add: We always offer them food as well but no one ever takes us up on that. The parking lot attendees do though and we have formed a nice little symbiotic relationship.

Edited again: TL;DR - Our patrols seem to strike the right balance of providing a presence, enforcement, and punishment when necessary.

I was supposed to have a meeting tomorrow with senior people in athletics, the police presence/ATV's were on the agenda. Unfortunately they reached out today and cancelled and we are working on a reschedule date for later this month.

I'm taking notes....

I'm glad that's all it came down to. Every time this happens I keep waiting for you to get arrested. Thought for sure this was it when he said "Hey! I asked you to move your chair!". And you said, "That's not my chair." Major points for the Inspector Clouseau routine.

I saw that exchange. That was actually pretty funny. I was sure somebody was gettin' tazed. lol

Athletics has multiple people that monitor the free board as well as the RT. They know when they are being talked about.

@e5fdny I sent an email to Hobbs about a month ago. Athletics has been trying to work a meeting date with me for awhile but they've been, you know, a little busy with things like fundraising and stuff. It doesn't matter that it's at the end of the season. the ATV topic hasn't happened until this last game so it would not have been a topic of conversation prior.

Instead of looking at this as a half empty glass look at it as a half full glass. 1. they read my email. 2. they replied to the email. 3. they are actively working on meeting with me to discuss the email. 4. quite possible that some issues get fixed and some ideas get implemented for next season.

To be fair to me, the officer said "can you move your chair" ,I said "that's not my chair" . He then said "can you please move that chair" And I said "sure no problem". I am not that much of a d$%^.

THIS is the way it should be. PSU draws more than twice what we draw, and a minimal police presence with no issues. Wonder if athletics is doing any bench marking with our B1G bretheren? No obvious problems or commotion, no law enforcement intervention is required. Stay on the main access roads, and stop going up and down the roads with ATVs. Regarding ambulance access, seriously doubt they are going to try to get and ambulance between rows of cars, but even if they tried to do this, certain that folks would cooperate in clearing the row before the ambulance arrived--it will take them time to arrive anyway.

@MrsScrew ,

I think it's great that you got an answer but there are other people in Athletics who have nothing to do with fundraising and are involved with the stuff we're talking about. Maybe they have the time. This doesn't have to be a Sarah or Pat meeting. But they could delegate somebody to check it out.

And the ATV stuff is just one of the issues.

There are two weeks and one game to go. It's a night game against a hated rival. I'm going to guess the hand will be heavy at this game because they feel it needs to be.

I bubbled it up into a different target group.

That was more to my point earlier in this thread. Talk to your BIG/SEC counterparts and ask about crowd control and game day issues. Some of the best coordination of multi agency crowd control I have ever seen takes place in Baton Rouge on game day.

As E5 said earlier speak to the NYPD FDNY whomever and ask for their input. Literally the NYPD can arrest 80% of the people on ST Pats day. They use discretion and control. Rutgers and Middlesex County Sheriff need to understand discretion and control. Just because you can issue a ticket/arrest someone does not mean you should.

As long as they are cracking down on fans in blue and white, and load them into a paddy wagon, that will cut down on the WE ARE crowd noise that some of our fans are fearing. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

To be fair, you did move the chair. But it was funny.
I had a flash of Peter Sellers saying, "That is not my dog," after the innkekeper exclaimed,"I thought you said your dog didn't bite?!"
