Question About Shooting

I'm not going to single out any one player or anything but I have a general question/observation about our shooting. How can a group of Division 1 players be so poor at shooting? Most of these guys have been playing since they were 5 or 6 years old and the first thing you do is throw the ball up towards the rim and try to get it through. And then you continually shoot every day at practice. We are not good at shooting mid range shots, 3 point shots, layups around the basket or even free throws. How is it possible that literally not one guy on this team can shoot a ball with any kind of proficiency?? I honestly don't get it. I actually find it amazing.

I get that the other team is trying to prevent us from scoring and that the B1G has some really good defensive teams, but there are plenty of open looks that are missed too. And it's almost painful to watch us shoot free throws.

Not a lot of defense on free throws. My opinion would be confidence. Not that weve got shooters who shoot at a 50% from the field, or 40% from three, but I think that when they miss open shots (including FTs) it really affects them. And not just themselves, but their teammates as well. You see a guy go 0-2 at the line, you can't help but roll your eyes and let it affect you next time at the line. You miss a wide open 3, and you start second guessing yourself. "Here we go again!"

And then there's the guys that just don't have it -- from anywhere on the court. Take Sa, for example. Rebounds and there's no-one withing 10 feet if him, and no-one coming. He's 6-9 and barely makes the shot, it crawling over the rim.
