Question about the Temple Transfers

Currently, I believe we have three kids from Temple announce they are transferring to Rutgers. For the ones still at Temple, last day of TU final exams is May 5. By Rutgers and NCAA rules, can they begin Spring practice as of May 6 and continue through the Spring Game on May 20? Even if they haven’t started any classes yet at RU, that is also the case, sometimes, with freshmen in August.

No. You must be enrolled as a student at the time the practices start. Any player not enrolled as part of the Spring semester has to wait until after the Spring game to join Team acitivities.

Freshman in August is a bad example. For sports purposes, they are enrolled for the Fall semester at that point. Fall sports start dates are allowed to begin prior to the start of the actual semester, but the participants all have to be enrolled for that semester (and of course cleared the NCAA clearing house for freshman and transfers)

Are they allowed to speak with Jay Butler and begin weight program at Rutgers, but not in a team setting? Are they allowed to speak with the other coaches and watch film?

They can be given materials to do on their own, but they can not meet and work with coaches until they are enrolled. They can't use our weight room until they are enrolled. This is why alot of Freshman come in June/July as part of the summer session as a student so they can do weight training formally with the team.
