R Mathis & McClung Mutually Exclusive?

Man I really wish Corey would stay his senior year. Good chance to dance. Kinda like if Quincy stayed another year. He even admitted so...

My understanding is yes b/c McClung is a point while Mathis is a scorer. I assume Pike is recruiting as if Sanders leaves which would be my assumption as well.

Mutually exclusive

The question is if we get Mathis, do we move really up the ladder for Jalen Carrey? They has been talk about the two of them wanting to play together ....though not sure how serious it is

I think Mac is a take ...

Anyone else concerned that McClung's only new offer after 3 July evaluation periods is LaSalle? I am. A little bit. Why not more offers?

For months, you defended the recruitment and signing of Souf Mensah, who was so far off the radar that it was tough to justify fighting against the critics who question the pick up.....

Now, you are somehow questioning McClung, because he hasn't generated enough offers, as if that's some sort of indictment....?? Perhaps he isn't looking to gather a bunch of offers or he's a late bloomer and lots of schools are finalizing what recruits they can land....it's hard to generate tons of late offers unless you are lights out in spring and summer AAU and he's been very good....but there are only so many offers schools can truly extend....The schools I've seen connected or looking at McClung are pretty lengthy....it only takes a few targets with other schools to come off the recruiting board and then you're staring down the battle of a full fledged war to land a kid....

I've learned quickly that kids that earn Ivy league offers and have some athleticism, are extremely coachable, able to adapt quickly, play team basketball and are building blocks on what you want 365 days a year.....sometimes those recruits are much more valuable than who offers....

I'm just asking a simple question. He plays on a high profile AAU team with a lot eyes of their team and no one is offering. It's a legit question and I don't know the answer.

AND, your comment about him NOT wanting a bunch offers is a little silly. How does someone turn down or discourage offers? Not your best comment bro. These guys don't discourage offers, on the contrary they are all over Twitter announcing every offer.

Mensah not getting offers is understandable....he was a 23 year old import from France playing at a Midwest Juco. The kind of guy a hard working staff has to find and others overlook.

I think what Choppin meant was "high major offers". McClung only has 2 (RU and Georgetown) at the moment, and from prior news, it's sounds like he Georgetown offer was part of a package.

On a separate note - based solely off of the tape I've seen, McClung looks like a take without question. His jumper is smooth, not quick, but smooth with upside and his ability to get to the rim and finish is unquestioned.

To Choppin's point, I too am a little curious why he hasn't generated more Power 5 interest. Maybe the mods can chime in here? Playing on Team Loaded, which just won a title gave him plenty of exposure and he's generated 30+ offers - but not many "big time schools". I agree the talent is there, just curious also why the tape isn't necessarily aligning with the caliber, not quantity of offers. I don't mind if it ends up leading to him falling in our laps... but just a valid question someone with more ties to the Adidas circuit may have the answers to.

I think he knows where he wants to go and of course they want more offers....the post made it seem as if he wasn't worthy because he didn't accumulate more offers....Team Loaded is exactly that....Loaded.....!!

McClung on that roster and playing is signal enough that he can play at this level....and I would not worry at all about the offer list, too many fanbases are basing success on who or what they have read the most about a player vs anything else...

I mentioned to someone I trust that being in the VA area and not seeing the type of press and media coverage probably has more to do with his offers more than anything....I believe if he was in the NJ/NY tri-state area with that type of athleticism, he has 20+ offers....he is a steal IMO and is coachable and smart academically, which you cannot place a price-tag on when talking about a rebuild against a bear of a conference like the B1G is....there are literally no free lunches in conference right now, RU needs all the contributors they can get on board to move up the standings, this staff will max out the talent in place.

If he was highly regarded he would gain more offers Not sure why you are suggesting the lack of offers as by his choice.

I see McClung as option 3...my opinion. I am concerned that a guy with all those eyes on him is not getting the offers. Schools don't have limits, they can offer now, keep in contact and use him as a late backup plan.

As a player, he can dunk when he has a clear path to the rim, make wide open shots and plays with a chip. As a PG, I have not seen him take his man one on one and drive past him in a highlight. Dribble penetration !! In 2018, you need dribble penetration from your PG. Maybe others have seen that limitation and it may explain the lack oft offers. My opinion.

I have seen shooting and dribble penetration from Jalen Carey and Marcus Zegorowski. I have not seen dribble penetration from McClung and I prefer a PG that can dribble penetrate.

Carey and Zegarowski have to be legitimate or potential options to add them to the mix....there are a lot of PG's I like, so not disagreeing here, I just can see McClung fitting into how we play, just as much as either player....Zegarowski would be the best true PG of the three, Carey would be the most explosive scorer, but not exactly a true PG at all, he's more of a scorer than distributor....McClung is a closer blend of both players, he can fit into a Nigel Johnson type of role where he can score or create his own shot if the shot clock is winding down and has the ability to play in transition.

Carey would absolutely have to consider RU more if we can land Mathis or it gives RU a chance with any other guards we recruit this year or next year....I think Geo Baker is the starter next year (Assuming Corey isn't here for his senior season), but having a Carey and Mathis with Baker would give RU three excellent scoring options at guard....McClung can also score as well, so I'm very comfortable with any of these choices.

I really like Anthony Nelson as a potential guard as well, he's been overlooked a bit in some cases because his name hasn't been mentioned as much, but there are 15-20 offers available for 3 or 4 spots right now for 2018....there are going to be kids that pick other places and I can see a lot of these choices fitting in and doing well with this staff. I don't think it's a situation where RU can go wrong here.

If our team has the following in 2018:

-Doucoure
-Mathis
-Baker
-McClung*

Im an instant season ticket buyer. Add them onto my football tickets.

*McClung would also have his internet famous cousin rapper, Riff Raff publcising us all over the place. Very unorthodox rapper, but def has a reach in the social media world.

Just curious because I haven't seen his academics referenced in any articles and can't recall seeing anything re "coachable" either. Can you link?

Still think McClung is someone you want. I know what you are saying with the concerns, but I think he will get better taking people off the dribble as his handle of the ball gets better. The athleticism is there no question. The will to win, focus are all things that a new coach wants, and needs.

Lots of kids out there working hard at this sport.

It unquestionably has more traction right now then possibly any sport in the world. Basketball has so much more of a market right now than football. The kids see the potential.

Just got McClung, so I assume no Mathis. Glad we're getting recruits but at a certain point Pike needs to win a recruiting battle (lost Reid which was a longshot, lost Alvarado, lost Mathis).

Fact or opinion? They play different positions - PG and SG - so no reason we couldn't take both with two big men.

I really like Mac's shooting form. And someone whose range is comfortable full step beyond the three point line

Point guard who can stretch a defense is huge in the half court offensive spacing

Lol kindly eat shit. The local northeast schools would've cut their own d*cks off for a commitment from mamadou.

So what? Convincing McClung to come to Rutgers over Georgetown when Patrick Ewing's is begging him to come isn't a recruiting battle we won? If you paid any attention, you would know this kid is one of the top 3 kids we recruited and had on our board at point guard.

We beat out multiple schools for kiss but yeah..pikiell hasn't won any recruiting battles. If you truly believe that, you're just dense and can't see what's happening in the program right now.

Patrick Ewing begging for MacClung.....I doubt that. lol, Not the Patrick Ewing I remember. He will probably be a John Thompson I and II clone.

McClung's a good player. Lets hope he develops into a good B1G PG.

Totally agree. I teach middle school and basketball is the most played and talked about sport. Every day there are kids playing on the playground outside of school at 7:30 am until school starts. I never see kids throwing around a football.

Wow I wish I grew up there

Not sure if this was pointed out already but since McClung made his decision a lot more crystal balls has Mathis choosing RU over UConn than yesterday. It's 50/50 right now as far as predictions go. If I'm not mistaken UConn were the heavy favorites yesterday on 247 Sports. 7 experts picked RU just this evening. That should be a good sign
