If we had beaten Penn State none of you would be so grim. That was our one WTF game to date. Can we at least play the games before we write off the season?

No doom and gloom, just a dose of reality. We finally have a real coaching staff, but we are not a good team.
We can't shoot and that is unlikely to change. Plus, you miss 15 free throws on the road and you cannot beat ANYONE!

True. Best case this season we are 13-3 instead we are 11-5. And that was BEST CASE. Worst case, we'll have you seen last season. Let's play the games yes. We have fought toe-to-toe for 33-35 minutes in every one of our 5 losses. Not the best talent or the best shooters but have faith. Still lots of games left.

We are a 67% FT team. Tonight we shot 44% on 27 attempts.

Michigan St is a 36% 3 PT shooting team. Tonight they shot 50% on 22 attempts.

Let's not go crazy over anything other than the fact that Rutgers can not play disciplined 3 PT defense (close outs, off ball awareness).

So what are our remaining winnable games?
Starts in 4 days at Iowa. Must-win to show any significant improvement this year in terms of Ws and Ls. Then you have Nebraska, Northwestern, Michigan, @Iowa, @NW, @PSU, Illinois, and to a lesser extent, Minnesota, @OSU. That's how you get people putting 5 games as a great success. Would mean getting all the "winnable" home games. You can assume we lose 1 or 2, but then get it back with a winnable away game & a stolen upset or 2 winnable away games. Still in reach.

its reality...a reality check, there is going to be no NIT, no NCAA (sorry to that one poster), Getting to 16 wins and over 500 for the first time in years looks extremely unlikely...its possible but RU would have to win all those winnable games...all of them, I do not see it. Lets hope we can win 1-3 games

There will be a night when some Big 10 team comes in and is ice cold and RU plays solid

Winnable games in order of most winnable...

1. Illinois
2. at Penn State
3. Iowa
4. Nebraska
5. at Ohio State
6. Michigan
7. Minnesota
8. Northwestern

those are the winnable games, the rest forget about it. The most we can get is maybe 3. Rutgers does not exist in a vaccuum and while they look overmatched so far, what makes it worse is the supposed bottom of the Big 10 looks to be better than first thought

I find this post to be extremely funny based on whom it was written by lol!

Really?? Because I called out Fudd as a craptacular coach and pushed for a change long before most did?

LOL so did I!

No SC, I'm just having some fun, most of your threads are VERY much "doom and gloom" types, hence, I thought this was funny. Not being an ass I promise!

BTW Nuts, for the record (and all in good fun) I was WELL ahead of you in calling for Fudd's removal. :)

I think what a lot of you are missing, is that we played one of the weakest out of conference schedules in the country. And probably the weakest RU has ever played. So not much has changed, lucky to win 1 or 2 conference games.

I actually gave the guy a fighting chance, despite the 2nd half of the 2012 season, until all the crap began in Sept of 2013. So, yeah, you're probably right lol!

I believe Michigan State was the best team we have played so far this season. I still think we will win several games in the BIG. We don't need the negatoids. This will take time. Rome was not built in a day. I still believe in Pikiell.

Our two toughest games this season are @Wisc and @Mich State. Haven't exactly had the easiest start to the B1G schedule.

Best post yet

MSUs bench shot 64%....and had 20 REBs
MSU is a great team with one of the best coaches in NCAA history

Corey, Corey, Corey!!! If he plays like he did last night, we do have a chance to win some games. He was great after I thought he was struggling with coach's new system. He seems to step up his game as the competition gets better. After Bridges highlight dunk, Corey raced down the down and converted a three point play !! Keep the faith boys!!

I still think this team is going to win a few games. But beating SHU was important and beating PSU was critical to getting into the NIT. We went 0-2 there and it essentially sealed our fate. Its too bad because this was our best opportunity in probably a number of years to get into the post season.

FGCU lost to Michigan State by a point, FGCU playing without their best player. Most of us around here would be happy if your Rome analogy was replaced by Hoboken, or even Secaucus.

LOL you immediately called the PSU loss a "WTF" game. Case closed. Again, I'm just busting chops, it's all good.
When it comes to WTF games during conference play, we have zero. No game that we lose should be considered a WTF game because any game we win is not to be expected.

The only WTF games would be from the other point of.view.

Wait so let me get this....if he plays like he did last night we have a chance to win games. He scored 22. He had 0 assist. And we lost by 30.

LOL

who is he going to pass the ball to? who is cutting that can convert? seriously think about it. what frontline player is he going to pass to who can convert? i have never seen so many blocked shots when a guy is around the basket like Freeman. Gettys has no post game. who is he kicking it out to for three off a drive? Williams and his 15 minutes? Thiam who needs a good 15 feet to get off his set shot? this is midmajor talent he is playing with vs some of the best teams and coaches in the country.

assists

LOL

Penn State just had it least efficient offensive game of the season vs. us on Saturday. Michigan State had it's 2nd most efficient offensive game vs us (Mississippi Valley state was #1, Jerry Rice was a DNP-coach's decision).

Last night wasn't a WTF game, more like a WTH type of game.

Not buying into a pg that has no assist. Even if he played off the ball. I just do not see how you can say give me more of this kind of game when we lost by that much.

How about give the team 8/10 defensive effort?Still have yet to buy into Sanders defense. It is less than average.

He threw (at least) four passes that could/should have resulted in dunks/layups that got blocked at the rim. A couple of others that resulted in missed open shots. Plus a couple of other good, clean feeds to Freeman/Sa/Gettys that resulted in offensive fouls, misses or trips to the line. Cant see how thats all on Corey.

I only listened to the game on the radio while I was driving. But still, 0 assist is head scratching. No matter what happened. You are right though, the team has to step up.

Also, not enthused on the defensive end with Sanders. I thought he would give more consistent effort.

I must admit I find it amusing to hear people, two weeks removed from absurd, head-in-the-clouds talk of postseason bids, worrying about doom and gloom and casting aspersions on "negatoids."

Face it. This team is not very good. It will stay in games -- sometimes -- because it is well-coached and works, but it will lose most of those. The others will be worse. Deal with it. If people need to vent because it's yet another year of hoops anguish, let them. Because it will be.

But you can feel it. Better things are coming. So let people vent and bitch and moan. It's OK. We're not going to be much better in the conference just because we had no WTF losses. Some of the bitch-and-moaners might have been fooled. Just relax. As far as I'm concerned, we already took the first step. We might not be ready for the second one, but it feels like the people in charge at least know how to get there.

So just let folks vent. Let them rail. Because when things get better, they will be among those cheering the loudest.
