Recruiting class of 2026

We were Bo Bassett's first call:

Penn State wasn't in a rush to call because they likely knew they had a lock on him. According to the call log, Rutgers got less than a minute on the phone, or it went to the answering machine. Well, you can't get a guy unless you try, but really?

Steve talked about the Bassettd and their relationship and it sounded pretty strong. Maybe a cursory, quick call and knowing they already have a relationship built.

I think Cornell is the favorite with how much he respects and trains with Yianni

Some people as usual never happy. The same people who question why were never in on the top recruits, why we weren’t the first ones to call Knox for example, now want to know why the phone call wasn’t long enough. Clowns

Yianni was in Stillwater this week so maybe we’ll see him on the move in the near future.

I wonder if that would impact Knox at all if yianni moved rtcs. That said, Id be surprised if yianni left spartan rtc

Ugh, this one hurts as James trained at the SKWC for a long time. Going to Delbarton is truly the kiss of death for RU. We need to find a way to keep these guys. I can understand losing them to Princeton, Cornell, or even PSU but to a lower rated state school in terms of academics, etc shouldn’t happen.

This hurts. What's the NIL$?

Dang he mighta been one of the top NJ left that hadn’t committed yet prior to this…

Hard to recruit after our staff got decimated im sure. Plus we just don’t do well with nj private schools.

This really can't be much of a surprise. Of course, the kids will use the SKWC to their benefit. According to Forbes, Rutgers is ranked 79th and Va Tech 83, which is pretty much a wash. Tech finished the big tournament within the top ten in 2024, and their line-up now looks like this:

125: Eddie Ventresca
133: #13 Connor McGonagle
141: #18 Sam Latona
149: #1 Caleb Henson
157: Rafael Hipolito
165: #15 Connor Brady
174: #7 Lennox Wolak
184: #7 TJ Stewart
197: #11 Andy Smith/Sonny Sasso
285: #12 Hunter Catka/Jimmy Mullen

Prediction on if we could beat this lineup?

Sounds about right but I might consider 133 closer to a tossup then 285 is..

Mcgonagle was ranked 6th when he beat now new teammate-Latona at all star classic.. before he got beat for starting spot by Crookam. He’s deceptively under-ranked at 13.

Turley matches up well with upper body specialist Wolak. Stewart is a terrible matchup for Soldano. Poz better than both VT guys from neutral. Yara is the better wrestler but has to be active/take some risk on his feet.

Would be an awesome match if we had VT on schedule

Would love to wrestle VT but the ACC is thin and last time we scheduled UNC they ducked everyone so it’s probably a turnoff.
I don't understand this take. Va. Tech and NCSU are quality programs that generally (almost always?) outscore RU at NCAAs. We should wrestle them every season if we can, and this year we have that opportunity.

We're 1-2 against Va. Tech including last season's 19-12 loss at home. We're 1-1 against NCSU with the last dual in 2000, a 29-15 RU win.

It’s not a take. I agree we should be wrestling them if they’re willing to put us in the schedule
