Recruiting

Have to expect transfers every year for PSU (due to NIL rules)
It will be interesting to watch.

Facundo is a 4x state champ (Suriano level high school accolade) and he is in the portal. That first domino has fallen.
@psu 83 , not sure why you laughed at this. For the record, I don't think there is any chance what was predicted here will come anywhere near fruition. But the first domino did fall.

With the portal already open and NCAAs over, anyone have intel on transfers in or out?

Would think Ferrari will hit the portal? He mentioned not having the best training partners etc.

Would have to imagine he goes to Iowa.. been listening to a lot of his interviews he’s def grown.. I’d be surprised if he gets into future troubles wherever he goes next.

It’s pretty crazy to think that Starocci and Ferrari each won titles as freshmen in the same free year and four years later, Starocci is a 5x champion and Ferrari is still a 1x champion probably looking for a 3rd school and still has 2 years of eligibility.

I still can’t figure out how AJ ended up at CSUB and his other brother is at LIU…I’m not convinced Iowa wants AJ around especially with Angelo seemingly focused and drama-free. There’s something extremely unlikable about AJ especially after seeing his bat-sh!t crazy interview talking about how hard he’s worked and that he wears organic underwear and uses organic bamboo toilet paper. He also isn’t nearly as dominant as IMO his offense was non-existent.

Saw some rumors of AJ to ISU, and Facundo and Swidreski offered $200k to OKST. No clue if true. Can't imagine we can come close to competing with that $.

Heard Iowa is throwing big $$ swidreski way as well…Facundo getting a big offer from Michigan but I think facundo will make his decision based on the wrestling not the $$

I don’t think Iowa or really any top program is going to go after Ferrari. Even though he took 3rd he lacked the explosiveness he had 4 years ago. No one wanted to take on the headache when he was at his peak, and I don’t think anyone wants to take on the headache now.

The rich get richer (potentially)... senior world champ and u20 world champ at 61kg Masanosuke Ono (Japan) has recently enrolled at PSU. He most recently beat Spencer Lee as well as the #1 p4p recruit Marcus Blaze (also a PSU commit) so it will be interesting to see if he just taking some classes while training at the NLWC or if he plans to compete in the NCAA come the fall.
Looks like Ono to PSU is confirmed and will be wrestling folkstyle next year.

Iowa will sell their soul for a trophy.

If PSU can tap into Japan, can we tap into Belarus? They got good wrestlers there too, and we have a pipeline with our own heavywt.

I won't be surprised if Dean or Shawver leave. With another year left, getting a payday could take them away. I saw Dean already took Rutgers off his profile.

I'd be curious about Chase Horn. I actually looked him up the other day. He was #1 HWT recruit around the time we were recruiting Kyonte. He was behind 2 AAs.

Guessing we'll see a lot more of these with the 30 roster cap. We're at 37 and have 5 incoming recruits (at least, assuming no transfer portal in). Currently, 6 leaving (Poz, Turley, Yara, Fongaro, O’Donnell, DeSantis), so we need at least 6 more to leave. It's going to be hard for many schools, and a lot of wrestlers may not have a home, unless they drop to a non-P4 school without roster caps or D3.

Having never attended a wrestling practice, what is the impact on the wrestling product going down to 30 wrestlers. I would think "Maybe" 20 of the 30 wrestlers ever see the starting lineup. Does this limit the drills run or competitiveness?

Good question. It doesn't limit much until you have injuries pile up. We'll need to bring in some SKWC resident athletes if needed, to wrestle with the team. In theory, some current wrestlers that don't want to transfer out could stay at Rutgers and wrestle for the NWCA club team or as an SKWC resident athlete and enter open tourneys, if we wanted to park some practice wrestlers there, but I'm not sure that'll happen or how much value there is in that.
