Recruiting

College wrestling as a whole is becoming a considerably worse product and it’s currently a runaway train with no sign of stopping. Unless you are PSU, Oklahoma State, or Iowa there is really no point of spending a ton of money because there is no chance to actually compete/challenge those programs.

It’s a sad/unfortunate reality.
The worst part is the one benefit of this consolidation of talent to 3 teams is their head to head duals will be much watch, but there’s absolutely no chance Penn St schedules OK St so it’s all for nothing.

I'm baffled why Ohio State isn't making an effort to be competitive.

The $$$ must all be for football?

Don’t know specifics but some coaches refuse to adapt. Clemson football for example is getting lapped in recruiting because they won’t raise NIL money the way other elite programs will.

What’s the difference between those football coaches and someone that refuses to adapt to how success is currently measured in wrestling. Instead thinking “Team scoring at individual tournaments is stupid.” Over adapting.

Agreed, but you can add several other teams that are consistently competitive, such as Nebraska, tOSU, Minnesota Cornell, NCST, VT, to name a few. It's not impossible if you can recruit elite talent and have $$$, but none of those are beating PSU.

I’m aware of how team success is measured. I think it’s stupid. That’s an opinion that has no bearing on anything.

A coach who doesn’t want to conform to the NIL rules is going to see their team get lapped.

I don’t see any relation between the two. Your obsession with me is wild.

We are def better as a dual team.. just wild the metrics used to qualify for it dual team championship and how we don’t qualify..
We have solid guys, but no hammers that are gonna finish that high to help us at Nationals. You need at least a couple high level all americans if you want to place respectably. Lets see who else we can find in the portal.

Yep, I been saying this for over a decade.. how one champ is worth more in NCAA scoring eyes then a whole squad full of R12 guys..

That part just always felt off to me, but at the core of it wrestling is still an individual sport. Hopefully that dual meet championship can pick up some steam.

Yet you repeatedly take shots when I say the same thing. Crazy

Maybe he will use that down the road if he outgrows 157. I think you see him wrestle
If Harer does decide to RS.. it could be a combo of Cetta/Clark at 149/57.. I believe Clark went 157 before. Don’t remember if he qualified at that weight tho.

I am hoping Harer does not redshirt. 157 will be weaker for us without him. Most wrestlers make their biggest jumps between their 1st and 2nd year in the room. So I think Harer will look better next season(I thought he had a pretty solid season for a true frosh). I was hoping to improve at 149 as well, but not sure Nini is will be good enough to unseat Clark.

I always thought Nini as a big time recruit and would think the coaches expect him to be a 4yr starter with the skills to make some noise at NCAA’s.

Yea, I thought he would possibly start this year, but his results were pretty mixed this year. Like I said, if he can beat out Clark, that helps the lineup. Just not sure if he will.

Purely a guess on my end, just figured he might take a year to work on his offense and get stronger. We’ll see I guess.
