Recruiting

Purely a guess on my end, just figured he might take a year to work on his offense and get stronger. We’ll see I guess.
Yea, I am not sure either. Probably depends on how long he can hold 157, if he wants to start again etc. I have changed my mind over the years on redshirting. If the guy is the best at the weight and wants to wrestle...wrestle him. Plus with the portal, never can tell when someone will leave, might as well get as many years in the lineup as possible.

I am hoping Harer does not redshirt. 157 will be weaker for us without him. Most wrestlers make their biggest jumps between their 1st and 2nd year in the room. So I think Harer will look better next season(I thought he had a pretty solid season for a true frosh). I was hoping to improve at 149 as well, but not sure Nini is will be good enough to unseat Clark.
I used to think that too— that wrestlers just linerally improve year over year but from what I seen it’s far from gtd.. generally, a wrestler usually stays at around the same level their whole career for the most part.. in some rare cases they are like Bartlett, who didn’t even qualify for first year or two and then becomes a title contender the final 3 years.

Harer got a really good top game and if he keeps improving he could be deadly but can’t assume or expect anything.

The thing I appreciate about Clark is he’s gotten better year over year. I hope he can make the podium his final year.

In regards to Bartlett... He was wrestling up a weight... Once Lee graduated... He was able to go back to 141 where he was best suited for

Conner is not red shirting this year he’s a go for 157. Lineup my guess is this

125 portal or Gibson/shawver
133 shawver/ Gibson
141 Oliveri
149 Clark
157 conner
165 Barbosa
174 pinto
184 Walsh
197 remy
Hwt catka

I’m good with Clark being our 149. He’s gotten better every year and is probably in the 15-20ish range nationally. He’s good enough to knock off someone ahead of him and probably won’t have any real head scratching losses.

As always, 165 is the spot we have to worry about.

I feel confident with Barbosa at 165. He will be at least a NQ next season.

Yea, I dont want it to sound like I am really down on Clark, just was hoping Nini would take the spot....if he did that would improve the lineup because he beat him out, if he does not, as you said Clark will be in the 15-20ish area. We just need more highly ranked guys in the lineup to improve the team.

I’ve never watched Nini and thought he’d be an impact guy in the big 10. I think he deserves to be here, I think he’s fine, but I see him more as a fringe qualifier than anything. He’s better at freestyle.

So far, I agree with this. Nini was getting a lot of praise from the coaches, but his results were pretty mixed last year.
We really need an impact Hwt and for Pinto to come in or it will be another season of pretty much the same results.

Off-season saved!! LFG!!
Yea have to give credit to the staff for getting Pinto and Catka. 174 and Hwt were huge needs. 197-I think is an upgrade, but Cotton was 13-14 last year. A RFR at 197 with 3 years left, so hopefully will keep getting better.
But for having limited NIL funds, this off-season is a success. Need Gibson to stay healthy(which has not happened in 4-5 years) and 57 and 65 to make jumps and RU could be better than last year as a dual team. Need to break thru on the AA's for a good season!

We have 4 legit AA contenders next year(hopefully more)… and agreed the dual team next year will probably be better then this year.. I think 10 NQ would not be a shocker.. if not all the qualifying teams participate in the dual meet championship maybe they will let RU in.

For 74, we also have Chapman coming in. So maybe he’ll RS and then challenge the following year, if not as a true freshman
Even if Chapman came in ready to contend I see no scenario where he doesn’t RS.. maybe only if Pinto got inj.. looking forward to seeing Chapman in action with the 5 free matches for a truefresh tho.

It should be a little better than last year with 57, 65, and 74 being better. I think Harer will be the most improved on the team. They probably can’t as a team do worse but maybe 2-3 can AA. and finish 15-20.

I agree it was a successful off season with the funds that they have. Is there any more surprises?

Chapman will have Pinto/Labriola to roll with.

Is Eric GIbson coming to RU and what weight is he? Would he crack lineup>

Having added Pinto, it's looking more doubtful that Gibson will be added. He was a pretty decent wrestler and now has two years of training at Penn State. I suspect he might be stronger than Barbosa.
What makes u think he is stronger than Barbosa?? What recent results suggests he is a decent wrestler??

I was under the impression he was content being a career room guy at PSU and now had to enter portal or risk being cut bc of the 30 cap limit now.

Who knows for sure but let’s have some competition in the room

I don't have a good argument for it. I think his best finish was 3rd in high school. I've given more weight to his time at Penn State and presumed improvement. I'm happy with Barbosa.

Ah ok thought he mighta picked up a good win somewhere that didn’t c. But yeah if he wanna come it would probably help with the team chemistry and can’t hurt w the chances of Miller.

I’m surprised Cochran isn’t trying to portal.. bumps up a weight and beats an AA and no one in the PSU fan base has him proj to start in the future lineups…

Melvin Miller is a similar pipe dream as was his brother. He's number 3 at 165, with two graduating seniors at 1 and 2. If he is number 1 for the next two years, I don't see why he wouldn't join his brother at Iowa or at least have offers from other top programs.

Yep Miller is the #1 p4p recruit for class of 27. Most likely destination will probably be Iowa.

From what I read, he wasnt allowed to wrestle state tourney his junior year due to sanctions against the team but was the #1 ranked wrestler in PA at his weight. He split matches with the eventual state champ that year. Senior year, I think he didnt wrestle/chose not to wrestle for whatever reason. It might have had to do with a second year of sanctions against his team/coach.

Edit: just found this.
