Recruiting

He does have a year of eligibility left, but I think Psufan2427 was saying he graduated from PSU and is calling it a career.
Oh ok I was listening to a recent PSU podcast and he was saying how there was a chance Barr goes 184 and Rocco’s spot is not gtd. Then he said if Barr moved down then Mirasola or Cochran would take 197.. so yeah.. 🤷‍♂️.

Either way Cochran is a AA lvl talent that probably will never start and if he’s cool with that then it is what it is.. probably could get a small bag somewhere if he wanted to transfer his final season.

Some people want to get on with life and business school is a good way to do so, especially if the bag isn't much and your body is broken down.

Should be an ok backup..
Agreed. Solid depth guy with fill-in type potential. Thinking like a DeSantis, Donner, Willie Scott type of talent at 184/197.
Wow I think you guys are selling this kid a little short , 2x region champ already ,he’s placed at 190 as a freshman and sophomore which isn’t easy ( Burton and soldano didn’t even place at 165 as freshman), his only loses last year are to guys wrestling D1 next season , willie has him as a top 80 recruit ,he placed at super 32 and NHSCA, he should be ranked 2 going into next season in NJ and it’s not like he wrestles at delbarton and has the best coaches and practice partners, no offense to the coaches and wrestlers in the Homdel room but I doubt any one is really pushing this kid

Everyone starting in b10 is a multi time state champ, highly nationally ranked, top big boarder from somewhere.

I like that he’s a top 80 recruit rn and he will have a chance to prove himself the next two years in hs, but until that happens, how can he be proj anything but a backup. Regardless, he could have some upside but can’t be expecting anything rn.

He just finished his Junior year. He made states as a frosh(DNP-blood round), as a Soph 7th and last year 5th(most likely would have been 6th, the St Joes kid Med F the match and had beaten Reyes 2-3 times last year). Look he can certainly develop here and hope he jumps levels this year. But for Rutgers to climb in the rankings they need much bigger recruits.

My bad I thought he was only a JR this year , that does slightly change my take , still I think guy a coming from smaller hs program thats had success in NJ always carry a little extra potential opposed to the guys that always had top partners and coaches

I mean you guys have been very excited about Chapman and he never won a state title , Reyes will be one of the favorites at 190 this year, was 5th at jr nationals…my point was don’t be so quick to write him off at just a back up , I would say hes more accomplished recruit the SCW or Clark and both of those guys have turned into pretty damn good Big 10 guys

It’s not Delbarton level obviously but Holmdel has been a pretty good wrestling area the last decade or so.

I always thought state titles were overrated.. for me, its about who you beat.. Chapman is nationally ranked, freakishly athletic, and almost beat the top ranked Iowa recruit up a weight. But then again we had a big recruit in Glasgow and he didn’t work out so better to not expect anything..

Intangibles for me of a good recruit is how much do they love wrestling and how hungry they are to keep improving. This is how you find the hidden gems.

Wasnt trying to knock Holmdel , I know staff really has built that program up ,i meant more practice partner wise

This is a ridiculous way of looking at it but I think if Goodale expected Reyes to be an impact type recruit there would have been a boom tweet

I think he has potential. Tanner Hodgins is the guy in that weight class we should be targeting as a higher level recruit, but I still like the addition here.

Ha ha hahahaha. Screw up already?
Actually, as shocking as it is, NO, this time. If you search, you'll find the wife of someone (an alumnus) connected to the UNC Regional Training Facility has been very vocal about his acceptance. She's been going to media outlets and whoever would listen making it her personal crusade to get him ousted. Apparently, the husband must have some clout because they're calling it an administrative decision.

Girlfriend of an ex wrestler at UNC who's now at the RTC.

Thats Goodale's job to bring in those donations like every other successful college coach these days.
Sure but I don’t think you understand how much of that stuff is beyond anyone’s control logistically. As an extreme example, why can’t UTEP football raise as much money as Alabama? Programs with storied history, and random multi millionaire alumni are always going to outperform us monetarily. I do think there’s plenty of teams that we should be hanging with but expecting Goodale or any coach in a similar position to snap their fingers and have a million dollars appear is being out of touch with reality.

This is nonsense, Rutgers shouldn’t have issues raising funds , a big ten program in one of the best wrestling states in the country and hop skip and a jump a way from the financial capital of the world , NIL donations are just tax write offs to a lot of donors ….i don’t think any one is expecting y all to raise Iowa /ok state $$ but no reason you shouldnt be on the level with a Virginia tech ….you put some one like James Green as head coach i dont think he any issues raising $$

Unless your NIL problems are an institutional problem, I know West Virginia has told Pat mcafee and all other big donors that they can only donate to the football and basketball Nil funds and other sports are actually forbidden from even approaching these donors, basically tellling all non revenue sports to F off

They should be a similar level to a VT I agree, but the point of this discussion is in regards to Ferrari or similar caliber guys who are likely going to command money that is not attainable by our program.

Funny stuff!

You mention Okie State and Iowa and conveniently manage to omit PSU.

Huh? I didn’t mention penn state bc it’s been known they had millions put into the program for a decade now, I use Iowa and ok state bc it’s only been the past few seasons they’ve had millions poured into the program. You also must have missed where I said no one expects them to reach that level but they should absolutely be on the level with V-tech and UNC , and it shouldn’t be on the shoulders of working class Alumni and fans to reach that level. No reason Rutgers shouldn’t be able to find some donors the way every other big time program has.
