Recruting Guru Mike Farrell

While there are no guarantees that the next hire will be better, it IS a certain fact that Flood can't compete in this league. Keeping him simply means we're not trying to do better. It means we're satisfied with bottom dwelling.

It's long past time to move on. This time we should hire a head coach after an honest and diligent search like real programs do and not just pick the only guy left in the building after the last coach bolted with all the competent staff. Flood got the career break of a lifetime but couldn't transform into a legit HC.

Flood wouldn't get a sniff anywhere even as a coordinator, and probably not even as a positon coach. Which other HC could you even say that about ? Think about it.

Even Shea has been in demand as a QB coach and trainer. Doubtful Flood gets an D1 job doing anything. It's why he's been so pathetically desperate. He knows this is it for him in big time football.

Touché Mr. Webster.

Let me rephrase. Flood can't compete successfully against the top teams in the division or in the conference.

A junta from this board could probably coach this team better than Flood.

Golden is one of the few choices that would not be an improvement. D'Onofrio was recruiting UVA from an office here.

Golden is typical TTFP smarm. There's likely 15 others who would be better.

I'd take Golden on the condition that his total compensation package cannot exceed 100k, inclusive of benefits. He can't do a whole lot worse than Flood and while we'd have to pay out Flood's remaining contract plus his salary it won't be too bad until the full B1G money becomes available.

Not only would I yearn for Al Golden but I would also yearn for Golden Richards and / or the Golden Girls to be HC of RU.....both would be upgrades

I don't know about Golden.

I look at the names mentioned for the RU job. I look at the names mentioned for the Miami job. And knowledgeable people say Miami can't pay more than 3m. What's that say about the RU job?

No thanks. Golden's only success as a head coach came at Temple from 2008-2010, the three years Matt Rhule was the OC.

Our current coach has a better record. Keep Flood, force him to play Rettig and we will see improvement.

Golden would be a serious upgrade.

he would keep a lot of that NJ talent home.

he's gotta let go of his boy, D'onofrio.
Compared to Flood as a HC , probably!
A good hire for RU, probably not
Recruiting(?) better than Flood , but don't know if he would be better than many of other
candidates that RU would be looking at, but recruiting might be a point in his favor.

I think the Nits would take a long look at him once they feel Franklin can get the recruits needed to win, but can't coach them to victory.
Though Golden hasn't proved he could coach the talent he brought to the U into becoming a top ACC program, so the Nits might not want him because he's just like Franklin

I played golf with Golden in North Carolina about 10 years ago. Just happened to be paired with him at a resort course. Was a great guy and enjoyed his company for the first 3 holes. Then he started talking about NJ and Rutgers. Did not have a good thing to say about either. I then told him I am from NJ and went to Rutgers and did not have a similar opinion. Needless to say I think he is a grade A douche that can't coach.
i agree he's a douche and heard similar things about his feelings on RU....BUT if i thought he'd make us scrappy again i'd do a lot of things i normally wouldn't....I'm a proud RU fan and Jersey guy though i've lived in NY for 20 yrs.

Flood can compete in this league. just not against the elite teams.

Which eliminates Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, and, more likely than not, Penn State (as they move farther away from sanctions).

Gives us a great fighting shot at doing well in our division!

:)

remember we'll be going to a 9 league schedule soon

We should be able to beat/compete with the following and I think we will. BTW by definition off compete is keep it close (close wins or losses). Most years we should keep it close with PSU. I don't think they'll be on the elite level for a good time yet.

Indiana
Maryland
PSU
Wisconsin
Nebraska
Northwestern
Minnesota
Purdue
Illinois
Iowa

Our aim each year should be to beat PSU, Maryland and Indiana. Beat our 3 OOC opponents and win 2/3 of our games with our west division foes. That's an 8 win regular season right there without even having to worry about the elite MSU, Michigan and OSU teams. So I think 6 wins each year with that should be expected and 7 wins pretty doable as well. EVEN under Flood. That would be pretty solid imo.

Guy grew up in NJ recruited NJ heavily at UVA Temple and Miami and always did it with negative recruiting. I know some coaches on the lower D 1 level. This guy is a grade A A$$hole.

Yeah, because the nice guy schtick & the f.a.m.i.l.y stuff has been sooooo successful getting top nj talent to buy in.

Not a fan of the nice guy family schtick also. Need someone that gets the job done. Flood gets no respect from recruits or other coaches. Golden is not liked or respected by coaches and peers but gets recruits. There has got to be a better choice out there than Golden. That's all I'm saying,
