Reports that Urban Meyer lied about not knowing abuse allegations against assistant / Now On Leave

Wow. When I first heard about this story my first questions were “When did Urban first learn about the DV and did he ignore it while Smith coached for him at OSU?

This article, and others, indicate to me that Meyer was probably fully knowledgeable about the fact that DV was an ongoing problem with his Asst Coach. And he consciously chose to do nothing to get rid of Smith. But he says in the presser that he reported everything to his bosses.

The Earl Bruce factor is the fulcrum, IMO, that enabled this coverup to stay alive all these years. Zach Smith was protected by his FB sponsors w Meyer and appeared to live a privileged life at UF and OSU, in spite of a well known history of DV against his wife.

The real problem for OSU, IMO, is that Meyer is saying that he reported the DV incidents to his bosses at OSU. If true then this scandal reaches up into the BOG and Presidents offices at OSU.

If so then it appears to me that Urban has the goods on his bosses at OSU in the event that they point the finger at him. Will be interesting to see what happens if Push comes to Shove here. I believe that this is a huge story that will not go away.

if PSU didn't get a death penalty, nothing will happen to Urban.

He'll get suspended for the 2018 season and his statue will be postponed until 2025 but then reinstated at the end of September due to public outcry with the statue unveiled in time for the Michigan game.

I'd be shocked if UM wasn't fired. Laughable to suggest he didn't know about all of this. Now-a-days, knowing and doing nothing and then lying about it gets you canned.

Bold faced lies on camera by Urban claiming to have only recently learned about Smith’s DV episodes at OSU.

His wife and close confidantes were counseling the asst coach’s wife about DV all along, yet Urban knew nothing about it? Impossible IMO.

Most likely he knew but I'd be surprised if he gets fired. Her own family wanted it to be hushed. At best I think he'll be reprimanded in some way be it temp suspension or less who knows.

If you read carefully, what he said he had no knowledge of was the police reports. Lot of things being thrown around out there. The texts I read don't mention police reports. Urban must have known things were not good at the Smith house, no denying that. But the wife saying her husband beats her is not, in and of itself, a fireable offense. If he kept the school informed throughout this process and they followed the school's DV policy, I doubt he is in trouble.

McMurphy said he has no doubt every coach and their wives knew about it. Ugh.

There is no chance Urban Meyer gets fired. No way in hell. To take down Urban, you need to have the smoking gun, and not only do you need it to be smoking, you probably need it to still be hot.

This is all based on conjecture, female to female support text messages (which, sorry, in this case lack credibility and context!), and "he-said-she-said". I just don't see how that leads to him getting fired.

I could see his wife getting canned over this though.

After seeing so many schools/individuals avoid any real consequences for things a lot worse than this, why would anyone expect him to go down for this?
He'll get a reprimand and do a public service ad about domestic violence and be done with it.

McMurphy's story indicates that most if not all of the coach's wives on the 2015 staff were aware of the abuse.
“All the (coaches) wives knew,” Courtney said. “They all did. Every single one.”

Julie has issued an apology on behalf of Chris Ash and his wife.
Maybe Rutgers should voluntarily take the sanctions now.

What individuals survived things worse than this?

Here is a sign Urban Meyer had put on the wall near the entrance to OSU's Les Wexner Football Facility a few years ago.

Sportsbooks are getting in on the action..... Urban Meyer is more likely to be fired prior to game 1 of this season per the current betting line.

GO BLUE!

As an aside, this is NOT the JoePa situation, where the alleged crimes occurred in the workplace and on the employer's property, where the manager is absolutely required to escalate the issues to the appropriate level and take disciplinary actions, where appropriate (very appropriate in that case, obviously).
That's the rub with this, if there is no arrest or conviction, how do you prove what's true and what's hearsay?

Urban Meyer placed on leave, wow. OSU now investigating

Wonder if anything will actually come of this.

Best of Luck,
Groz

Reported already that Ryan Day is interim head coach during investigation and his administrative leave. Smart move, Day is their best assistant. I still think it's all just for show.

Schiano's Tennessee problem will hold him back as a Buckeye candidate.
The Buckeyes, if they let Meyer go , will look for a squeaky clean image and pluck a big name coach from a winning P-5 program.
The bucks they have to offer would bring in a proven winner that has HCing experience.
Greg will get a rebuilding job, winning top P-5 programs can find canidates with better resumes and I'm leaving the accusations that cost him the Vol job out of it.
Day might be given this season to prove himself , if Urban doesn't come back or suspended for some, most or all of 2018.

My friend would say same thing about Urban, about to have health issues.

ESPN story says all of the assistant coaches' wives knew about it. Was Ash still there at the time? Did his wife know?
http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...ourtney-smith-people-urban-meyer-knew-15-case
Doesn't matter if she did and she told Ash. It wasn't his job to hire and fire assistant coaches. He was just an assistant himself as co-defensive coordinator with Luke Fickell. The only one it matters to is nj.com so they can bash away. I think the main issue here is Meyer, bold faced lied and tried to cover up his actions.
