Rettig Looked Pissed

Have a hunch that the look on Rettig's face was more extreme discomfort with the booing - I'm sure he likes being supported - but not this way

Who knows - but with the stand-up job that Rettig has done all season & saying the right things, being a team player as best he can, and supposedly the positive relationship with Laviano, he probably is also pissed that Flood's bone-headed insistence puts him in this kind of ugly situation.

He has 5 years to play 4 and now three are gone and one completely wasted. With his talent and all the promise coming from hs I bet he sure feels angry. If it was your son, wouldn't you too seeing what we have seen, where if it's 3rd and 8 or more we wither run or throw a screen?

Agree. He looked completely ticked off. -Don't think it had much of anything to do with booing at all.

He was just flat-out pissed.

I'd be pissed too. all he does is hand off the ball. Give him a chance to at least throw the damn thing. While Laviano was having a decent game, he looked awful during most of the 3rd quarter. Give him a chance to recover and let Rettig pretend he's a member of the team.

I think he was embarrassed with the booing. They are his buddies, he works hard to get the team prepared. Booing the players doesn't do anything. It doesn't make them play harder.

If it were my son put in the situation that Rettig has been in, I would need to be restrained from having a blistering 'dialog" with KF - I'd want my kid to have the opportunity to play - but also he has had it ingrained into him that he does what ever it takes to help the team, if he has to play a supportive role - so be it - respect the coach, respect the position & role of the coach - support your teammates
...HOWEVER if a coach got all caught up in some twisted battle of wills / general obstinance - I'd be furious - no kid deserves to get sucked into some coach's sh#t show - to be tangled up in crap like this. I want my kid to beam with pride when the crowd cheers when he goes in the game - - but I hate to see him cringe when the crowd boo his teammate when that teammate goes back in the game and he comes out.
FURTHERMORE - to be honest, I'd already be likely to lose it - because I would still be seething with anger at Flood for offering up the despicable subtle insinuations that Hayden was somehow lacking the smarts to operate the offense - kind of letting these thing out - or - doing nothing to defuse them - when he was getting pressured for his clinging to Laviano (and was desperate for any kind of justification for not playing Hayden ) he was a piss poor praiser / defender of Hayden - which was despicable.

I don't see him leaving unless he drops down a division. If he transfers he sits another year I believe. And that makes it really tough coming back. Not sure if I'm right but I think that's the way it works.

Is there anyone left who STILL thinks Rettig stays?
depends on the next days /weeks
a pro-style quality coach reaches out & says "stay" ? - maybe
if some how Les Miles came here (yes, a 1 in 1,000,000 chance) ... Rettig would feel cursed!

If Flood is fired he stays because his got a legit shot at the number 1 QB spot. If Flood stays I want the kid to get his degree and move on. No sense wasting his time transferring this late in his college career.

Yeah, sure, he was embarrassed and looked pissed because people were booing that he came out of the game. Do you even believe that when you type it out?

The kid wants to play, just like any competitor with heart. He was probably thinking, this is my chance to do something. After one handoff, it's back to signaling in plays. Anyone not upset about coming out in that situation is either obviously playing behind a star or does not have the competitive fire for division 1 power five football.

Flood might as well go pack Rettigs bags for him.

If I was Rettig I would be embarrassed that they would prefer to have a guy in that was just on the ground writhing in pain for 5 minutes rather a healthy QB.

Rettig was shocked that Laviano was able to come back on. But Laviano wasn't able to throw. Flood prefers a hurt Laviano to a healthy Rettig.

Laviano was hurt while Rettig was healthy. The QB competition at the beginning of the year was close. Given these 2 circumstances, would you be pissed if you were in Rettig's situation? I know I would be.

If he transfers to a FBS school he'll have to sit a year and lose a year of eligibility.
But dropping down to a FCS school he'll be eligible to play immediately and have two years of eligibility .
I think he'll drop down if Flood comes back, might even leave if Flood's terminated.
Don't know what he will do, but feel he knows Flood isn't going to give him a fair shot to prove himself in a game.

I can see him dropping down a level if Flood returns. If we make a change he will be one of the first guys for the new coach to recruit. At this point I would think you try to get him to stay for spring practice and tell him he has a legitimate shot to win the job.

Rettig knew exactly what was going to happen regarding Laviano coming back in - it was a sure thing if he was functional.

- and he knew that if Laviano did not come back in, all he was going to be permitted to do would be to hand off to Martin or James. He knew full well he would not get to throw...
.... The only way Rettig was going to end up throwing the ball would be if he went totally rogue - said 'screw Flood' and called an audible on his own

Rettig is not a fool - yes, he wants to play - but he has been dealing with this crap all season & so it was not a shock - he knew how this was going to go -- no doubt that he was frustrated - but my guess is that he knew he was coming out just as soon as Laviano - was able to go back in.

Feel for the kid - because it is pretty clear that he got ground-up in Flood's stubbornness

This is yet another example bringing into question Flood' "good guy" persona.

Those disparaging comments were despicable and were made why---to protect Flood's interest above the program or a kid. Shameful

This absolutely blew my mind. How could Flood allow Laviano just to signal "I'm ok to go back in" when just a play earlier was grimacing laid out on the ground like a stretcher needed to come out to get him as he gingerly walked off the field. Then a play later Laviano asked to come back in and Flood and company just allowed it. How the f*ck do you just allow a battered qb to call his own number as a college coaching staff to perpetuate the rightness of your coaching decisions? Even from a player safety perspective Laviano should at least have sat out the series. WTF is going on here? What the hell is wrong with Rettig taking a fing series? Even MD has used 3 qbs this season. Then you have fans thinking we are booing a player and not this joke of a head coach.

Flood needs to go fast.

The good news the next coach has a Qb with skills to build around until he gets players ....Hayden rettig

This is a big part of the next regimes first two years at remaining at .500 until the next guy gets a couple of recruiting classes in here

I think he will stay. Next year I expect there to be a competition and an evaluation and Rettig may win out. The coaches want to win games and will pick all the players positions to have the best chance to win.

He looked pissed to me as well, though really...he couldn't have been surprised that Laviano went right back in.

It would be really interesting to hear about this from a players perspective after the season...was Rettig expecting to be handed the starting job? Did he really not know the playbook? Did his teammates want him to get some starts?

I do not understand, with the shot CL took, he was not held out at least a series
The kid should been check for a concussion.....but Flood just put him back in....classy
From his comments and actions, he does not like Rettig. Guess he has to keep the Long Island pipeline open.......

Fixed it for you.

If there's a true competition at the QB position next year, it will be because this clown show of a coaching staff has been shown the door, which hopefully will happen over the next few days.

It's tough to say without knowing everything that is going on behind the scenes. But if I'm Rettig and Flood stays, I'm seriously looking at my options. He'd be behind 2 Flood QBs (Laviano and Russo), assuming Russo stays committed that is.

You have to think it is a high probability he drops down a level and plays there immediately.

Flood really f'd that kid.

So what happens next year if the new coach doesn't start retting? Does he have to hear this b$llsh$t all over again? Can't wait for the kid to transfer.

Laviano truly has no arm strength. He can't hit a receiver in stride beyond 20 yards. His big pass to Caroo was 42 yards and Caroo had to turn and come back to the ball. On another play he rolled out and threw a 15 yard pass that hung up almost gotting a recievers head knocked off.

This kid Rettig knows that if given the snaps he would out play Laviano. It's like losing a promotion to someone who sucks up to management when you're the better employee. The kid is pissed because he wanted to Play.

According to if the starter isn't doing the job in consecutive games and the HC doesn't try new blood in an effort to win the game.

If he doesn't start Rettig and doesn't play the back up after the starter can't move the ball for 5 games? Then he is a moron too.

How about this? Rettig had a chance to win the job in the spring and couldn't get it done. He had another chance in the fall and couldn't get it done. LSU let him go. Maybe, just maybe, the kid is more like Natale than anyone thinks.
Was he pissed, yep? He should be because if he's a 4 star QB, he should have been able to beat Laviano out with ease. He couldn't do it.

LOL at comparing a US Army All-American to Dominic Natale. Really? Flood has stated how close the competition was, throughout the Spring and Summer. With his unwillingness to give Rettig a chance after Laviano failed to throw a pass TD in 21 quarters, it's clear the Flood played favorites. He didn't play Rettig in danger of hindering Laviano's development. Those were his words.

How about this?

You have been living under a rock for the past 6 months and just learned about our QB situation the within the past 24 hrs. I can't believe the season is literally OVER and there are still posters who remain completely clueless.
