Rhody tonight

Agreed 100%. Havent seen Rotations and close outs like that in two EJ seasons. That's all about tough teaching and holding players accountable on defense during practice, it translates to the game

Did you see the muscle on that one player from URI . Not sure if he was already there or a Hurley recruit but I have no doubt Hurley would have recruited some talent here...

Stifling defense. Like an old Big East team.

Other than Biruta, it's a young team. The top scoring goes sophomore, freshman, freshman, senior, freshman.

Seen them play better games this year, but I didn't think tonight was a great game by URI. Lots of help from the refs and Hurley's style, while defensively solid, is sluggish offensively and lacks ball movement. Honestly, I'd take the losing coach - Lonergan, though Hurley would be my second choice.

There was an article this week in the WSJ about Bobby and Danny Hurley both having a shot to make the NCAA's this year. Talked about their relationship and career paths. It mentioned that Danny got an extension at URI after turning down RU. Right after that there was a quote from Danny that said something to the effect was that he wanted to be in a situation where there was a strong commitment to the program so that once they got it turned around it would last for a long time. He indicated that he thought it would take another year or two to have the success he is having in year 3 at URI. We payed EJ 6.25 for 5 but would not pay DH 7MM for 7yrs. Looking like another great decision by the athletic dept. Oh wait, we didn't even had an AD at the time! Another great search.

Yup, if we had hired either Bobby or Danny, to quote someone on here, both would have "stain" with recruits, lol.

Jim Baron won 20+ games five times at Rhode and 19 games twice, not to mention 20 wins at four different schools, and you guys are all in a love fest for Danny Hurley. Mike Rice got more out of Biruta. Much prefer Bobby Hurley.

Both Hurley's could make the final four this year and some here wouldn't want them

It's interesting that Bobby Hurley never coached at Duke under Coach K like many of his former players now coaching.

Bobby Hurley has only been coaching since 2010.....assistant at Wagner and RI...now HC at Buffalo.

Did I miss something in his bio that highlighted all his coaching experience.

I think he spent a season in the NBA at a low-level position.

He trained horses in Florida following his shortened NBA career. Kevin Armstrong did a story about "The Hurley's" years ago at Sports Illustrated. Hurley left Florida when Danny took the Wagner job, I believe.

Kirscner and co had a man crush on Eddie. It was his job to lose.

That's debate. I heard he didn't want the job.

I'm rooting against the Hurley's. Want them to stay at their current jobs for a couple of more years. And in year 3, Hurley's got a roster that looks at lot like a B1G team.

Having 4 players over 6-6 ( 2 at 6-7 and 2 at 6-8) and 2 at 6-5 is like a B1G roster ?
Hurley looks like he recruited a mid major roster , size wise , in my opinion

I wish there was a gif of this.

I was at Barclays today with Piscataway Mike and his brother and Biruta played a solid game.

In fact with about 4 minutes to go, Biruta committed his 4th foul and Hurley took him out and the game was tied.

After Biruta left, Dayton went on a mini run - never to relinquish the lead.

Biruta was flawless from the FT line and was much more assertive on the offensive side of the glass and going to the basket.

Don't forget that Eli Carter will also be sitting home for postseason as Florida went 16-17, 8-10. Very much a down year for Billy Donovan in the SEC.

So that makes Dan Hurley 0-4 this season against the top of their conference IIRC. He lost to VCU/Davidson/Dayton in the regular season and now Dayton again in the conference tourney. If he's going to be considered he has to do better than that against the top of his conference.

I've been saying this a few times here and see a lot of bandwagon jumpers on the Hurleys. I saw the same thing on the flavor of the month on the football board with Kliff Kinsbury and others on the football board.. Give it some time and let them accomplish more and see how they do. Dan Hurley hasn't even made the tourney once yet. He has gone 0-4 against the top of his conference. Off that how can you anoint him the next great coach? Even if he made the tourney one year, I wouldn't be sold. Do it for some time then you get me.

The Hurleys may be great coaches, who knows, but I'm not willing to say that now. Mike Rice won his conference regular season 3 years and went to the tourney twice and had a .700 winning percentage. I liked Al Skinner more at that time but people thought he was a lazy recruiter and too old but I didn't have too much of an issue with Rice given his performance and we see how that turned out. So even with someone who has done it for a few years, it's no guarantee. Nothing is guaranteed. But for someone who hasn't even had that kind of success yet at the low level the risk is even higher. Obviously, the longer and the better the track record the more confident you feel in the choice and the reverse is true as well. It's just logical. I just see it as trying to increase your probabilities of making the right choice.

I also don't get this haters thing. It's a constant mantra around these boards. Whether it's Flood, Schiano, the Hurleys or whomever what does hater have to do with anything. It's a discussion about here's what I think of this coach and here's why. I don't hate anyone nor do I love anyone, they're not my buddies or family it's just a discussion about our thoughts. Same for discussion on any particular topic. As long as you're giving the whys and not just a "he sucks" or "he's great," I don't have a problem with anyone's opinion.

solid...

Fans of Hurley can see him coach against the Iona team on Tuesday.

Buffalo. Got better over the season. Won their last 8 games, Won the season, Won their tourney

Went 23-9....all but one starter returns next year incl 3 top scorers.......

One of their best seasons in a long while.

An interesting game for SHU fans to watch...I wouldn't be surprised to see Danny in South Orange next year.

Wishful thinking?
Thought he would want to ever step foot at shoe due to what happened to him when there?
Rhody is on par to shoe, not a clear step up.

LOL...and RU would be a step up??

Money dictates if it's a step up or not....have no idea what he wants to do, but if it happens, I'll be back:)

It sounds like Willard gets another season at SHU. If it's bad next season then I won't be surprised if SHU moves on to a new coach. But I wouldn't make Danny the leader in the clubhouse for the HC job. He may have long term memories of his time at SHU that are not positive from his playing days. I think he can do better than SHU for his next job. I'd see SHU going for a young assistant from a successful program.

No
We don't have access to The Trove. No one in the media has reported this.

I know your fan base is dying to fire him.

shoe has the money to buy willard out and hire the next maac coach?
they spend like we do

btw, I never said RU was a clear step up...RU wasn't part of the dialogue...not sure what the difficulty with that is...

Not doubting you in any way HALL85. Can you provide insight into how Willard could get let go now as opposed to after next season ?

Every school with a coach on the hot seat already has made a decision - at Alabama, DePaul, Georgia Tech, UNLV, George Mason, Charlotte.

Bama is in the NIT and still fired its coach.

In my opinion, the only other coaching moves will occur when teams are eliminated from the postseason.

Just checked into this game. Looks like RI doing a nice job in the first half, game is in RI. They're up 15. I like Tim Cluess myself but RI doing well so far.

RI averages 67 pts/gm this season and they have 51pts in the first half. 7-13 from 3. That's one thing with Cluess' style, don't expect good defense.

when I turned it on Biruta had just wrestled a rebound , got fouled and went 1 of 2. The Announcers said he was out most of the 1st half with a tech foul, he then went on to miss a chippy under the basket, then try and jam one off the front of the rim. The announcers said he just has to correct his finishes.. (LOL!) Looked very much the same.

Danny then sat him down (about 15mins to go) and never saw him back in the game even though they were up 12-15 pts most of the way.

Guess I add him to the long list of guys who left but didn't do so much different away as they did or would have done here had they stayed...all those transfers and only 1 or 2 I'd say had a period of improved play. And by improved I am not saying they wouldn't have had just as much success (improvement in their personal game) if they had stayed. Most of them looked exactly the same with just a differnet uniform.

Biruta was what he was....got solid playing time but never evolved into a difference maker. I think Rhody will make the NIT Final 4
