lol @ the thought of high school kids playing all-out on D during summer league!!
I can tell by his release that he's a good free throw shooter (don't have stats). Might need close to NBA range to get looks though.
Looks to have a good shot with high bball IQ. Doesn't seem very athletic or quick. He'll obviously need to get into better shape. Seems too slow to play the 2, most likely he's a small forward in college. 6'6 is a fine height to be a 3 in college but needs to turn some of that baby fat into muscle.

Might want to calm down here. It's a summer league. Pikiell sees potential and clearly thinks he can mold him. The kid isn't even on campus yet. Can we give these guys a chance?
Don't we want guys who love playing the game? Basketball is a true 2 front sport - every player plays defense and offense. So yes, id want my recruits playing all out both ways - that goes for summer league and driveway pickup games too
Not an expert, but I like what l see in this extensive film. For a big kid, handles the ball like a guard. No wasted movements and has enough of a spurt to get to the rim. Obviously is smooth with 3-point shot. Films of dunks and "athletic" players are useless. I'm thinking this kid is more Geo than Bullock.
Looked at film of Harper.
He is a kid with A level talent, and sometimes B level effort. I am happy that he is coming to the banks. I think Pikiell and Jay Young can really turn him into a great player.
On the flipside, A level effort, but C level talent is something like what some juco players are. They would never sniff a D1 court.

He has great offensive skills for his age. Really before his time there. I think fans would agree that could be of use here.

I said he has potential. This is not the only tape I’ve seen. Pikiell looks for grinders. Don’t see that in his tape...BUT he can be molded as you say. Certainly has the pedigree...
A strict strength and conditioning program will probably help him compete in the BIG. He's kinda the opposite of most big-time high-school recruits who are all flash and no polish. Still think Pikiell will want two ball handlers on the floor with him until he proves he can play "low" as well as dunk on guys 6'4". Teams like Michigan State and Florida State have freakish athletes playing the guard positions.
Agree with others assessments. To play for Pike, he'll need to play D, rebound and play harder. Don't see that here, but feeling good about his ability to score at the next level after watching this tape and have a better understanding of his game.
We cannot possibly carry another Mensah or Bullock Recruiting for a program like ours is far from an exact science but I will put my faith in Pike to get this recruiting thing right.
Coach has made it clear if your not ready to play hard you won’t play. I am not concerned about playing defense in a summer game as ability to play defense. I trust our coaching staff to get the best effort out of our players.

A few of you guys over react. When Ron committed to RU it was stated he would need work in the weight room. He improved a lot from his soph through his junior year. I believe he is expected top play at small forward. I saw him play in the semi finals and the finals of the Tournament of Champions vs. Linden and The Patrick School. He played very well and had good stats in both games. Apparently he played outstanding in July and we were able to get a commit from him. I trust in Steve Pikiell. Too many of our fans expect miracles from every kid as soon as they commit. I myself am enjoying the ride.
I called something similar 10 days ago or so: If Sanders comes back, and the current players continue their development, I believe RU will be a bubble team, at least.
I think the following team and depth chart, to go with Pikiell's ability to inspire strong defense and rebounding, will make for a fun season:
PG: Baker, Sanders, Mensah
2G: Sanders, Mathis, Kiss
WF: Thiam, Kiss, Mathis
PF: Omoruyi and/or S. Carter (not sure who starts)
C: Doucore, Doorson, M. Johnson, Nathan
Wild Card: Another spot opens up for a better back-up PG than Mensah, giving Sanders and Baker more rest.
And Mike, don’t forget we have one more addition for next year, Johnson at Center. So that’s Montez, Carter, Harper, Kiss and Johnson. That is a major influx of talent! I am so bullish on Rutgers Basketball! And if there is a transfer...

Pikell is building the right way. Recruit underrated players with potential. Alot of highly ranked players will transfer out if the team isn't winning right away. Underrated players will likely have less ego and will be willing to work and have more patience. When they become juniors and seniors they will be able compete. Higher ranked players- we would just help develop- untill he transfers to ncca tournament team

I think Pike (and all coaches) would like to bring in the most highly ranked and talented players. The higher ranked players bring momentum to recruiting (good players want to play with good players) and their talent brings wins to the program. All things being equal why would Pike want to wait 3 years for a player to compete like you stated instead of highly ranked talented players competing as a freshman. Makes zero sense.

In that rotation, I'd imagine Harper as the third guy in at WF behind Thiam and Kiss, with Mathis getting time there in three guard sets with Baker/Sanders. If he continues to grow (as he might, since he's still on the younger side), Harper might even see time at the backup PF spot if we go smaller.
And still, that's only 12 guys, not accounting for Bullock's schollie - so that might end up as another PG or another big.
It makes perfect sense- and I explained why. Higher ranked kids need to be developed also. The difference is- while your still in your losing stages- winning programs come and trying lure your highly ranked recruits away.. Most likely they were already on that programs radar. Now hidden gems with potential- you can fully develop them without much interference. As upperclassmen they become good players and lay the foundation. That's how you build up a program like RU- who us operating on a mid majors budget

If Coach Pike had his way the higher ranked kids would be here and we wouldn't be losing while developing projects. Do you really believe, as you've stated, he's avoiding trying to lure top ranked talent and is going after under the radar projects purposely. That makes zero sense. I mean jeez, you think he would have taken Mensah or Bullock if he had better options?
A few top recruits with good coaching changes everything quickly.
Some day, in either football or basketball, Rutgers is going to hire a guy that pulls in 5-stars early like Bryce Drew at Vanderbilt and the fanbase isn't going to know what to do with themselves now that they don't have to talk themselves into every 2- and 3-star recruit being a diamond in the rough.
