Scouting Rutgers: The Scarlet Knights (19-14, 4-5) have shown flashes of potential with a win over then-No. 9 Miami in February and two victories against then-No. 27 Florida Gulf Coast in March. They have won two of their three Big Ten series (Penn State and Michigan State) but were swept at No. 18 Illinois last weekend. … Rutgers ranks 74th nationally in scoring (6.4 runs per game) despite coming in 206th in slugging percentage (.361) and 159th in on-base percentage (.358). Much of the difference comes from speed on the basepaths, with the team’s 58 steals ranking 29th. Jawuan Harris (17 steals), Dan DiGeorgio (11) and Luke Bowerbank (seven) lead the way. The Knights also have 23 sacrifice bunts (61st). … O’Reilly, a senior, and Rutkowski, a freshman, hold a combined 0.30 ERA in their home starts this season. O’Reilly, however, allowed nine runs in three innings at Illinois last weekend. … The Scarlet Knights have an entirely new group of assistant coaches this season. … Top hitters include Bowerbank (.321 average, 21 RBIs), Kyle Walker (.321) and Nick Matera (.297, four home runs, 22 RBIs).

Note: Earl Weaver would not approve of the Sacrifice Bunts statistics!

Article is incorrect re: our fourth run. It came in on a squeeze, not a fielders choice. Was there.
