I don't see any comments attached to the posted article. However, I totally agree with you that most that post comments to articles about RU would have to study harder to raise to the level of idiots.
You also have to remember many are fans of other schools or it's been rumored are planted there by the site. Even some who say they're are RU fans really aren't.
For a state that claims to be one of the most educated in the US, there really are a ton of imbeciles that reside in NJ. My statement to them to quote Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross, "If you don't like it, leave." Honestly no one is forcing you to live in this state.
Or more because the RWJBarnabas deal is said to be pushing double the $10 million naming rights minimum.
You would think the writer of the article would reply to the comments and inform them that this has nothing to do with taxpayer money. A newspaper's job is to inform their readers but the SL/NJ.com long ago gave up on real journalism.
They want the clicks/debate first, last, and everywhere inbetween. They're not going to do or say anything to slow that down.
I had people in person tell me that the Football Team needs to play better because they are paying for them with their Tax dollars and they want to get their money's worth.
I claim explained to them that the football team uses ZERO tax dollars since they get ZERO state aid. Only Academics get state aid and it makes up about 32% of the entire budget.
The answer is always the same, dumb look followed by "really?" and then "I don't Know". This has happen a few times.

Well actually athletics(not football it makes money) received $13,541 dollars last year in state appropriated funds.
Had a friend say to me, yeah well my taxes help pay for that team. I pulled out a quarter and gave it to him. He said what's this for, I told him,"I don't want you to feel jipped so I'm giving you your money back that went towards RU athletics.
As he sat confused I said, "And by the way you owe me 3 cents back". That's the last time he ever brought that talking point up.:) He's actually a regular with me to RU wrestling matches, that's how ill informed NJ residents are.
