Ru travels to Drexel this Thursday evening to take on a decent Drexel squad who are now 8-11 on the year. Drexel handled Hofstra so they are no pushover. They have been very close with a number of good teams but are coming off a 35-6 thumping last night against Cornell in the National Duals. They won 2 bouts with tough Kevin DeVoy Jr edging Mark grey 3-2 and at 141 David Pearce beating Logan David 3-0. So you cannot take them lightly as they are decent from 133 through 157. At 149 Matt Cimato moves up a weight class and will give Theo all he can handle. Noel Blanco moves up a weight at 157 and will prove to be tough for Anthony Perrotti. This should be a good test for us as we head to the Big Ten tournament.

Probable Lineups

125 McCabe vs Zach Fuentes (has beaten some good kids)
133 Delvecchio vs Kevin Devoy Jr (Jersey kid who lost to Giraldo at ESU & Delvecchio in a dual)
141 Ashnault vs David Pearce
149 Theobold vs Matt Cimato (kid is tough and wacked us at 141 last year. Lost 14-0 to Villalonga)
157 Perrotti vs Noel Blanco (very tough kid and good test for AP on his rejuvenation)
165 Visicaro vs Nick Elmer (good chance for Vis to get on track)
174 Backukas vs Steve Loiseau
184 Parfumi vs Alex DeCiantus
197 Hrymack vs Branden Litten
285 Smith vs Joey Goodhart (lost to Aiken-Phillips last night 7-6)

Let's show up as we should and finish the season at 14-7 for a very respectable year.

Drexel Dual Schedule:

W Davidson 39-0
L South Dakota State 31-6
L Northwestern 28-15
L Eastern Michigan 22-19
W Navy 24-16
L Northern Iowa 24-14
W George Mason 25-11
W Bloomsburg 27-6
L Pitt 27-12
W Hofstra 26-15
L Loch Haven 18-15
L Binghampton 22-14
W Army 21-20
L Duke 24-13
W F & M 30-6
W American 19-18
L UNC 22-13
L Rider 20-17
L Cornell 35-6

There you have it. 8 wins 11 losses

Looking at the line-ups there are some tough matches that could be toss-ups. It will not be an easy win but one we should get if we wrestle well.

Looking at the National Duals, can someone remind me how teams qualify. I know we hosted it a couple of years ago (real poor turnout). Would we qualify for next years duals, we should have a pretty strong dual meet team next year.

Since I am off today and have some time on my hand I will give my breakdown by weight. So here is 125.

125 - I think WNG is being kind by saying he has beat some good kids. He is 8-5 and in my opinion his best win is against our Josh Patrick. Comparing common opponents gives us the following.

Josh Patrick - McCabe beat him 5-2, Fuentes beat him 7-2
Brandon Hyman (not D1) McCabe beat him by fall in 5:53, Fuentes won by fall in 3:26
Nashon Garrett (stud) - McCabe lost 15-2, Fuentes lost by fall 2:54

This should be a close match and I can see McCabe pulling it out.

133 - Should be a very competitive match. Like WNG said DeVoy very tough and coming off big win against Grey. Here are the common opponents this year.

Anthony Elias - DelVecchio won 11-2, DeVoy won 9-2
Jimmy Gulibon - DelVecchio lost 12-2, DeVoy lost 7-2
Domminick Malone - DelVecchio won 10-1, DeVoy won 6-1 and by fall 4:11
Colton Rasche - DelVecchio won 7-4, Devoy won by fall 0:57

Should be a toss up match so hope the Delvecchio that wrestled Ohio State shows up.

141 - I would look for Anthony Ashnault to score some bonus here against David Pearce. Pearce is not a bad wrestler but not in AA category in my opinion.

Common Opponents.

Aaron Wolfang - Ash won 17-1, Pearce won 16-3
Patrick Prada - Ash won 11-2, Pearce won 6-1
Jameson Oster - Ash won 4-2, Pearce lost 9-2
Kade Moss - Ash won 6-4, Pearce lost 16-4
Logan Everett - Ash won 11-5, Pearce lost 9-7
Anthony Abidin - Ash lost 5-2, Pearce lost 12-1

Also note that Pearce was suppose to wrestle Tyson Dippery in ESU open but Medical Defaulted the match.

149 - Again I agree with WNG this kid despite his 15 losses is a very tough kid. Should be a good match for both kids but I see Theobold coming out on top.

Common Opponents.

Cody Ruggirello - Theo lost 5-2, Cimato lost 7-2
Zack Beitz - Theo won 5-2, Cimato lost by fall 6:35
Kevin Birmingham - Theo won by fall 3:28, Cimato won 8-2
Andrew Mendel - Theo won 3-1, Cimato won 6-2
Jason Tsirtsis - Theo lost 12-2, Cimato lost 9-2
Corey Wilding - Theo won 6-1, Cimato lost 12-0

Also of note Cimato has a win over Van Brill 5-3

157 - Again have to agree with the knowledgeable WNG, kid is tough. However the way I saw AP wrestle against Princeton I can't see him losing here. I know this kid is much better than the Princeton kid but its more about AP at this point, he is clicking on all cylinders.

Common opponents.

Drew Daniels - AP won 11-1, Blanco won 4-1
Russell Parsons - AP lost 3-2, Blanco won 3-1 OT, again a different AP back then.

Of note, 2 days after wrestling AP Blanco gets to wrestle James Green.

Obrats

You are too kind in your assessment of me and my observations! Great job of your comparisons. Wonderful.

165 - Visicaro vs Elmer, Elmer is a Jersey kid who had placed in the states before. I would like to see Vis get on track but anything can happen here.

Common opponents

Garrett Hammond - Vis lost 13-4, Elmer lost 4-0
Pierce Harger - Vis lost 4-0, Elmer lost by fall 6:58
Peyton Walsh - Vis lost 4-2, Elmer lost 7-1

174 - Backukas vs Loiseau

Loiseau is a true freshman State Champ out of PA. I actually followed him pretty closely last year and he beat Jose Ortiz (RU commit that never made it on campus) in the state finals 4-0. Kid was 42-0 last year and dropped a weight for college. Could be a good match but hopefully Phil's experience wins this one for RU.

Common opponents

Jadaen Bernstein - Phil lost 6-4 OT, Loiseau lost 5-3 and 12-3
Brian Harvey - Phil lost 4-2, Loiseau lost by fall 6:25
Auston Hummel - Phil won by fall 1:49, Loiseau won 16-1 (16 points in 1st period)
Curt Maas - Phil won 3-2, Loiseau lost 3-2
George Pickett - Phil won 1-0, Loiseau lost 4-1
Nathaniel Powers Phil won 17-1, Loiseau won 6-2

184 Pafumi vs. DeCiantus

Another toss up match with a edge to Pafumi in my opinion.

Common opponents

Mitch Sliga - Pafumi won 6-2, DeCiantus lost 4-2
Michael Woulfe - Pafumi lost by fall 3:22, DeCiantus lost by fall 5:31

Of note DeCiantus has a 1-0 win over Anthony Messner

great preview and weight breakdown. every match should be competitive and winnable for RU. 133 looks like Drexel's best match up. great dual to lead up to B1G tourney.

197 Hayden vs Litten

Probably comes at a good time for Hayden as Litten is 1-10 over his last 11 matches. Only one common opponent.

Michael Oxley - Hayden won 13-3, Litten won 3-2.

285 Smith vs Goodhart

Lot of comparable match ups between these 2, but Smith clearly the better wrestler and I would like to Smith open up in his last match before the Big 10 tournament.

Common opponents.

Connor Cakins - Smith won 11-0, Goodhart won 5-1
ColynnCook - Smith won 8-1, Goodhart won 4-3
Mauro Correnti - Smith won 14-0, Goodhart lost 3-1 and won 5-2
Alex Foley - Smith won 8-1, Goodhart won 4-2 OT
Ed Isola - Smith won by fall 1:43, Goodhart won 6-2
Mike McMullen - Smith lost 8-2, Goodhart lost by fall 2:31

As for the dual yes Drexel beat Hofstra but trust me the Hofstra lineup now is much different then the one we wrestled. Ruggirello (was out for weeks) was back in the lineup but they are missing kids to injury and at least one (M. Passaro) are not listed on their roster any longer.

There are some toss up matches but I have to think our Big 10 tested team should come out on top in many of them. I wouldn't be surprised to see us win 8-10 matches here. Since I live in South Jersey (not far from Philly) I am thinking of heading over to see the match.
