RU vs Savannah ST 12/13/15 Game Thread

30-5. Cathy Andruzzi doing color.....arghhh. CVS using everyone. Jeune #2 back to play.

Meh, Chris daily tweeting on game. Keeling is gonna be a beast. Hernandez with a trey at the end of half.

Though much lesser competition, it was a good game to give everyone some minutes and face game situations. Happy to see A. Jeune back on the court after recovery from ankle injury. More valuable lessons learned with everyone playing than running up the score. Once B10 games begin, opportunities will be limited... just the way I see it :)

Does anyone know whether the 7 point first half by SSU was a record?

I tried to find out - the records for fewest points allowed in a game or half are not in the media guide (or several others I checked). It also isn't in the game notes.

I couldn't find it there, either. I do know that we held Texas Tech to 11 in a half in 1999.

I found my media guide and didn't see it either. Thanks for looking. The 2 points they scored in the first quarter may be a record as well.

Didn't we hold Tennessee to just 9 first half points the next-to-last time they visited the RAC? RU then went on to blow a big lead and lose the game but the first half was fantastic.

As always, CVS teams have no killer instinct. UConn would have crushed this cupcake by scoring 100 points.

I am trying to put this kindly but you sir are so freaking wrong. Would rather have CVS then the jackass at UConn.

Maybe I'm wrong but:
I took ScarletEd's post in the same light I made the one he replied to:
Sarcastic humor not meant to bash CVS, but to make fun of her detractors
by posting something they'd say .

I didn't because we always have these detractors from the women's game. Frankly I am tired of it.

Actually I was a bit afraid that my post might be taken as a real bash for the reason you stated.
But it seems like after wins the bashers stay away rather that celebrate the victory .
After a loss, they are out in full force.:chairshot:

First, let me answer my critics by saying that I am a sincere supporter of our womens BB program. But I'm saddened to see that the team has been drifting down hill over recent years. Not too long ago CVS was recruiting many MacDonald All Americans and the team was highly ranked. Not any more.

And that jackass at UConn has won National Championships. Must be doing something right.

So, here's the thing. Like him or not, Geno is in the discussion of the greatest women's basketball coach of all time. He developed success, and on that success he built more success. Ultimately, the combination of both the talent gap and the "coaching" gap between UConn and the rest of WBB has led to UConn domination and, quite frankly, the reality that - as long as he is there - everyone else is playing for second most years. Very, very sad situation, IMHO.

While one can discuss - and folks do - ad infinitum what happened with RU Women's Basketball, the truth of the matter is the failure of the super class that committed after the Imus situation - a failure for many reasons so far as is known - allowed RU to slip from being a candidate for the very best recruits and to retreat from becoming elite. CVS herself commented a few years ago on the talent gap between RU and some elite teams, saying something to the effect that the ability to recruit on (her) reputation only lasted a certain length of time.

Anyone who thinks that RU is on UConn's level or will be or should have been are simply deluding themselves. No one is, and that ship sailed years ago on the rest of WBB. Nor do we have the talent of the very elite teams. We have good talent, lots of teams have worse, and should have very nice success, and yes, we have some losses this season we "shouldn't have" according to some, but RU is not chopped liver either.

Very well said, KTF.

It continues to strike me how strange it is that the "great" class that was recruited after the 2007 season has hurt this program over the years. The whole class seemed kind of cursed in a strange way - pretty much nobody ended up playing to her potential, including the players who left - and the class probably actually hurt recruiting, rather than helping it.

ScarletEd, that jackass has the full support of Connecticut's Administration and the facilities to
impress recruits, besides being a great coach.
Vivian has only her name and ability.
Nowadays that isn't impressive enough to draw the players that once made RU WBB one of the elite programs.
CVS' recruiting ability hasn't gone down as much as we might think, in my opinion, it's the recruits are not as impressed with her reputation as much as before making overcoming the facilities and lack of support from RU's Administration much harder than it was before.
That gives other programs that once were considered not as good as Rutgers equal footing with RU in the recruiting department and an edge if their facilities and support are noticeably better than Stringer can show those same recruits.
That's the way I look at it !
