RUMLAX 14 Syracuse 10

Another big win for the lax program. The score probably doesn't reflect how much better Rutgers was than Syracuse today. Onward!

Agree. If we won a few more face-offs this game would have been an even bigger blowout!

We clearly were the better team and it feels great...

Cali,How did Albany get so good at lacrosse? Are they getting kids from NY that used to go to Syracuse,Hofstra, etc.?

They have a pipeline into the Native American community, and have been getting some transcendent players. Those guys used to go to Syracuse.

In what was our toughest week, 3 games in 8 days, we go 2-1 with the loss being an OT questionable one, while beating 2 ranked teams, one on the road. It was a success.

Cali,I know it is hard to project too far down the road, but on a scale of one to ten, where do you think the program is now and where do you think it will be once the new lacrosse soccer center is complete. I think you have mentioned in the past that there are various aspects we are behind in with the current facilities.

Nice win today would have gone but had practice today.
The Fruit Lax Board is in meltdown mode...... A few examples......

Princeton scored 15 goals against RU this is beyond embarrasing.

Arguably the worst SU team in a long time.

To get blown out by these two teams is a disastrous sign. So many issues right now and its not all because of youth. Desko needs to be held accountable

We should never lose to Ruttie by 4

Glad I missed this party. I try to remain positive, but losing to Rutgers in anything means there is a problem.

Apparently the defense stayed back in Syracuse to play in the snow.

The heavy lifting so to speak has been done by Coach Brecht and staff. Think of what he stepped into as being very similar to what Schiano stepped into after Shea. Next to no talent, unacceptable levels of backing from the administration to really compete, alums not together, recruiting basically dead, and no "stain", along with facilities being sub par.

Coach Brecht has, with the help of Pat Hobbs and staff, fixed the funding issue (could still use and will always need more). We now have the full allotment of out of state scholarships (done within the last 3 years). He's brought all of the alumni back into the tent, which Coach Hayes was instrumental in making sure we always knew this was our program, which Coach Brecht recognized and brought to another level. Recruiting has never been better, and seems to get better every class. We play a sexy uptempo style which brought some stain. And we are beating storied programs like Syracuse and Hopkins now.

So the only piece that hasn't been built or fixed when you look at what he stepped into is facilities, which fall woefully short. Now that will be truly addressed.

So, Coach Brecht has gotten the program to this point, without the flashy facilities and having to build or rebuild the areas mentioned. The facilities are coming. Imagine what he will do when he has them and is fighting gun fights with a gun of his own.

People need to know how much he did BEFORE the money and the arrival of Pat Hobbs.

We’ve mentioned the “culture shift” needed on this particular Board for FB. Brian did this as evident by the above post from a MLAX alum. I was with another alum this weekend with my sons HS team and he echoed what @Caliknight has said here.

It all starts with getting the right guy.

Let’s hope like in Wrestling and now MLAX we have the same in Ash and Pike.

The right guy definitely makes it easier to build around. Coach Brecht was absolutely the right guy, and so is Hobbs. None of this would be happening without both men. Coach Brecht got the program to where he did pre-Hobbs IN SPITE of the AD he had to deal with. Few people know what he really had to put up with. But he kept his head down and kept working. Then the right leader in Hobbs came around and now the gloves are off.

I truly believe this program can win a national championship. It will be very challenging, but with continued support, and everything else we have going on, the sky is the limit. It's fun being on the ride.

The Legion” is growing...

We all need to be talking up R MLax to our friends and family. And invite them to games. I had 20 at the Syracuse game. They had a great time.

Now, next year, if we just could get more 1pm games instead of these 7pm Sunday games, which are so hard to get casual fans to attend.

Unless it's spring break (I don't know) there should have been a good undergrad turnout for a 7PM Sunday game. That may be something that still needs work.

I may not be exact with this but last year we were 8-0 about this time, ranked No.1 in Nation and then went down to Delaware and promptly lost. We never made the NCAA tournament, although arguably we should have (there is a strong ACC bias) as we lost to Maryland in 3 OT and beat Ohio State in OT that ended up being an all Big Ten NCAA Championship game.. We play Delaware this Saturday at 7:00. Would be great to return favor and put a beat down on them. Need the fans to show, do some tailgating that is close to stadium, no parking fee, only $10 bucks to get in gate with general seating.

We got screwed last year. It was also one of those very odd years where both Denver, who breezed through their league schedule and lost in their tourney, and Albany doing the same, both took at large spots.

We beat Delaware it will be a much different situation heading into B1G play.

We have one "good" loss being a narrow one in an away game, and as it is right now, one questionable loss in OT, also in an away game.

Everything is still in front of us, and you have to love what we saw yesterday for a lot of reasons. The best being the team took a big step on 6 on 6 offense. We've been trending up, but what we saw yesterday was borderline sublime.

As much as we hate to say it, losing AC at the very start was a set back. It's always next man up, but it is a big psychological switch and on field chemistry change when a player like AC goes down. It was going to time to gel and build chemistry, especially with a new guy who just got off the plane 2 weeks before the first game.

Lots of positives from yesterday. Last year at this time we started to see some chinks in the armor. This year we are seemingly getting better every week. Great sign. Keep gelling, keep improving. Yesterday was the blue print on offense and D.

Still can't believe Syracuse didn't go zone. Guess they were too proud to admit what was obvious. Our O was much better than their D.

I'm surprised Cuse didn't switch to a zone D myself. RU on offense struggles at times vs the zone in 6 on 6. Man D RU shreds more times than not due to our athletic ability at middie and attack. Like basketball you need shooters on the outside to crack a zone, and at times we miss the cage from 10 to 12 out.

What is Brecht's contract status? Sounds like he deserves a chunk of the TV money in order to keep him happy and around.

It's public information. He signed a new deal last year. Good timing. He is viewed very highly in coaching circles. Is definitely on some short lists.

With the new facilities coming, support from the administration, the team reaching higher ground, hopefully this marriage lasts a long time. You'd have to believe that with all of the hard work he has already done, and the relationships he's built, him having success here will keep him here. He's a great leader of the program, and we know Hobbs likes stability. Rutgers lacrosse should have a long tenured, successful coach. There is too much history in the program to have it any other way.

We haven't really seen that much zone, outside Lehigh I think who played some. Syracuse lacrosse borders over confidence. Some might call it stupidity. They'd obviously rather get picked a part clean than admit that we had better players on offense than their defensive players. They hardly even slid. They were saying that their athletes were better than ours and got torched for it.

They have some talent, and did go down to Uva and beat them, and beat Army at home, but we looked faster than they did and more athletic, especially in key spots. Our long poles in the middle of the field being prime examples, as were our short stick middies.

The long term fall of Cuse we spoke about in the early to mid 2000s is happening.

Once Boehiem is done, Cuse falls off the precipice
Not necessarily true. There will be a window where some new coach might be able to elevate Syracuse using Boeheim's pipeline and his more youthful endeavors. Also, the ACC will be a help to them. Odds are though that a fall is coming.
