Today will be looked back as a historic day for RU athletics attempt to become
a mid-major for a few years and then possibly transition to a MAJOR
presence nationally in multiple sports by 2018-19.

This past week, the various "factions" behind the scenes united behind a
brand-new donor's plan of "Making RU Athletics Relevant"

This is the most significant development that led to the news of today,.
AD choice was ingenious as we have someone who can represent us in the
forthcoming NCAA report, as well as raise money with any AD in the country,
with the exception of Jeremy Foley.

Open Questions:

How quickly will the FB coach be hired?
What sanctions will the NCAA place? (I think Hobbs is perfect
for solving/limiting this with his law and accounting credentials)

The new consensus power group agreed to fix basketball
this Spring. Not good for Eddie or V Stringer stock, but thankfully
the powers that be see all of the problems like good business
professionals.

The new ARENA in New Brunswick is a GO. Do the plans for
an indoor facilty for winter sports get shaved back/halted?

What happens when the promised B10 TV money never appears?
How does the new shadow-committee respond?

Will we fans be patient? I think so, but price increases are coming, but
I think AD Hobbs is diplomatic enough to make sure a phased in
plan gets instituted.

Great day, and glad they announced it all today.
Barchi 's email statement was also on-point, forward-looking,
and full of hope.

Arena in NB is a go?

Yeah, you're going to need some sources, guy.

Sanctions? What sanctions? Where are you getting this stuff?

This was the mr tv of bball coac predictions.

I like the idea of a concerned core group though. Even a blind squirrel...

The idea of an arena in downtown NB is such a good idea it can't possibly be true. I've been hoping for an outcome like that for years. It would be a win for Rutgers and an even bigger win for NB. It would finally allow NB to take one big step forward in its development.

1. If North Carolina hasn't faced sanctions yet.......I'm not too worried about RU.
2. Don't see a downtown arena. That seems way too expensive and unnecessary....plus no parking. More room and cheaper to build on Livingston.
3. Can't get blood from a stone. I don't see donations exploding like the OP is suggesting. I do see room for improvement, especially with some hope and optimism now that there seems to be a willingness to support athletics as a whole.
4. Price increases are already here...and yes, they can get higher, but that would be a major mistake until there is better overall support from the fanbase.

advice coming from a fan of one of the most unprincipled ADs in the country that's rich...

Sanctions only come if a university has not done the job of policing itself. And has the ncaa even opened an investigation on us?

IS UNC still an accredited university? Or just a bunch of semi-pro sports teams with daycare?

@Scarlet4ever

Are you dense, or just have an issue with me? Maybe you missed the part of AD Hobbs having
a law degree from the hated UNC, or the fact that my boss is a multi-million annual
booster to his alma mater RU, and was asked, like others to double it, which
he committed to last Monday without condition.

I have wished rhat RU to become a top 50 athletic program ever since I moved to NYC,
and I think today's message contains the most likely path to that happening
within 7 years.

I never mean to irritate so I accept your apology in the spirit of we both want the same thing,;
but as an alumnus you feel more entitled to it?
Ask Woody Johnson why he put up a big check even though he is not an alum
nor does he support Chritie's campaign since September.

I am taking a break from this board until the next 2 weeks of announcements happen,
unless the weather changes and I wish to read RU#'s threads on weather.

Ciao.

I apoligize for the NC remark. That said, just giving my opinion. I don't think major sanctions, if any, are coming. RU policed itself. Found a problem and dealt with it. As for the donations stuff.....I hope you are right. Ive been around this stuff a long time, so I have my doubts. Hopefully they are unfounded. No need to take a break from the board over this.

Why do people read this guys posts. He is NEVER right. Big ten money is most certainly coming. We are not building an arena in NB. There will be no sanctions. RU has plenty of lawyers. We wouldn't need to hire one as an an AD just to work with the NCAA.

@RURM85 I don't just question the B1G TV money, I analyze the tv/digital media markets for a living.
The model is not sustainable and a change/collapse is near.

You can probably google it, but most analysts and hedge fund investors doubt that ESPN will renew
current sports contracts within 25% of their prior deals, and most believe the "power 5" as currently
constructed will see at least 30% reductions and membership changes to downsize.
Rutgers is probably part of this reshuffling, but if not, the B1G money will be MUCH less for certain.

Ciao.

Interesting news. Thanks for posting. Im glad all the parties are unifying under a plan to put Rutgers Athletics on the map. Also, I think the new arena in downtown New Brunswick would be great for the city and for Bball. Let's get it done!

Zzzz
