I get that. But is RPI the determinative factor for these purposes? We tied them first time (and had an own goal), finished ahead of them in conference play, and beat them rather convincingly. And we may have similar w/l records if iirc.

I do agree that Indiana was overseeded. But RPI has always been important for seeding in soccer, and I'm not surprised that they were seeded ahead of Rutgers. The W/L records being similar isn't that meaningful, given the difference in quality of schedule.

Overall, I think the B1G got disrespected some, but that's the breaks when our league is mostly comprised of weak teams. Just be glad Rutgers is now one of the strong teams, right?

And you are not going to like this, but I think a regular season title is given more weight than a conference tournament title..

Yeah, I’m really happy with the direction of the program, don’t get me wrong. I’m just more surprised Indiana got a seed I guess.

Yeah.

I'm a Maryland fan who has been watching college soccer a while. I think if IU, RU and MD played a three-team round robin tournament, it would come out 1) Rutgers 2) Indiana 3) Maryland.

So I guess I agree with you...

The seeding and placement don't make sense. Basing it solely on RPI isn't right. You have to use some common sense and look at H2H. We won the B1G tourney by beating tOSU and IU, both of which we tied during the regular season, yet they're ahead of us? We should've been slotted ahead of both and gotten the #13 seed over IU or 1st round slot to play a double digit seed, like tOSU got.

It's impossible to do a tournament of 48 teams using head-to-head as primary factor. A beat B, B beat C, C beat A.

A team with a 40+ RPI is not going to be a top 16 seed. The coach needs to schedule better, especially playing in the B1G, if he wants that.

These tournaments are set up from the perspective of the higher-regarded teams. Think of the 8-9 matchup in the NCAA basketball tournament. The 10th seed is more favorable than both, because a win doesn't mean facing the #1 seed in the next round. So it's unfair to the more highly regarded (8, 9) teams. But it's impossible to balance everything out for every team from top to bottom...

Rutgers will be fine. MD Myers is going to score no matter who or where they are playing.

Nah. It's pretty easy to 1st look at RPI for qualification, and then adjust by H2H or at least intraconference H2H to seed/slot each conference member in the bracket. RPI is irrelevant after you set the field.

Seems like we need to consider upgrading our OOC schedule for next year. Looks like we got 4 teams in the tournament based on the snapshot above.

Big Ten got 4 in, but only Indy got a seed … wonder if RU winning hurt seeding for the others.

Hoping RU takes care of business vs an Ivy team and gets a shot at SU.

Losing to Michigan State (rpi 72) hurt, but the two missed chances were vs UCLA (26) and at Creighton (30). Both are hosting first round games. Hard to argue we need better OOC opponents when we didn't beat the ones already there.

Cool, man...

Good point. I would just say that if conference is not that well regarded, they will need to do more since they might have gotten more out of some of those losses than other OOC victories. Based on things shook out it is not clear to me that we were a lock to make the tournament had we lost on Sunday.

Hopefully McElderry can keep improving the talent in the program. Maintaining a good OOC schedule should be part of the attraction. I assume we owe UCLA a return match?

RPI or not it is ridiculous that in a bracket that is set by a COMMITTEE that a team finishes 2nd in the full season standings and 1st in the tournament in the BIG TEN and forget a bye, but doesn’t even host a first round game .. would never happen if the team was named anything but Rutgers

UCLA will be on the slate annually moving forward as a B1G opponent. Like men's lax, like baseball...now that men's soccer has started to establish themselves, now McElderry needs to up the OOC slate to get more big time opportunities for wins to make the RPI sexier at Selection Time.

From the looks of it this place might not even have an electrical outlet let alone a press box. What a disgrace this is!!!!
Yeah, the NCAA should be ashamed of itself for giving Penn a home game. Artificial turf and no permanent bleachers at their current home replacement venue! Atrocious.

I mean the turf....shit we use to play on artificial turf and get home matches, lol, but the rest is just pure "bush league" nonsense. That being said, I'd bet my life we're faster then Penn (I'm stunned at our team speed...), so the turf could be a "plus" for RU.

Turf for soccer is such a clown shoes move. I expected better from an Ivy school that on the surface at least somewhat takes athletics seriously.

We sent a few teams who played at home, on turf, to The Final 4. Just sayin'! It sucks, I get it, but it's not 100% uncommon.

I wish the NCAA did what used to do about ten years ago. It was my favorite sports night of the year. One could click on almost any game in their bracket and watch the game. It was a lot of fun seeing other teams, and other stadiums. That pretty much went away over the years. I guess they realized they could monetize it.

I'll be listening the Maryland game on WMUC, since it is also not televised...
