MEN’S SOCCER

Another difficult week. It started on Tuesday with a disappointing OOC home loss to NJIT. Then on Friday they trekked westward to the Valley of Happiness where they unhappily lost 3-2 to PSU in 2OT. They close their conference schedule at 0-6-2, which puts them last in the nine-team conference, and stand 0-12-2 overall. Three more chances for a win: OOC against Columbia and Bradley, and a first round tournament matchup.

WOMEN’S FIELD HOCKEY

A mixed weekend with a split in two home games. It started on the wrong foot on Friday with a 4-1 loss to #6 PSU. However, things brightened on Sunday with a 2-0 OOC win against Richmond – their final home game of the season. The team’s record now stands at 2-5 in conference and 9-7 overall.

WOMEN’S GOLF

The golf team took the short trip down to Delaware for the Lady Blue Hen Invitational. (Comment: Isn’t “Lady Blue Hens” a stupid name for a women’s team? All hens, blue or otherwise, are by definition female. So why aren’t the women simply the Blue Hens, and the men the Gentlemen Blue Hens?) Anyway, the Scarlet Knights finished fifth in a field of ten, behind Harvard, host school Delaware, Penn, and Seton Hall. The top RU scorer was Ashleigh Greenham who finished tied for second with a score of +15 for the three round tournament.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

The good news is a four game unbeaten streak. The bad news is a four game winless streak. Both streaks were extended at home on Saturday with the dreaded nil-nil against Nebraska. The team’s record now stands at 4-1-5 in the B1G and 9-2-6 overall. With the draw, they secured a spot in the B1G tournament, which includes only the top eight teams out of twelve.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

The tennis team competed in the weekend’s regional Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) championships. Three players – Chloe Lee, Mingxiu Du, and Jacqueline Cochrane, advanced to the second round in singles action. Lee and Du also made it to the second round in doubles.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The volleyball team continued to struggle with two more straight-set losses, at #11 Michigan State and home against Maryland. The record drops to 0-10 in conference and 4-19 overall.

NOTE: The Rowing team was scheduled to participate in Saturday’s Head of the Charles regatta in Boston, however, I have found no evidence of their participation.

NEXT WEEK: M/W Cross Country Big Ten Tournament!
