The Rutgers Scarlet Knights baseball season is officially over. They did not make the NCAA Tournament. Rutgers was listed as one of the first four teams outs. Brutal ending to one of the best seasons in the program history

Im sorry but from basketball to Baseball,if Rutgers doesnt have someone with knowledge to this point of RPI ,strength of schedule yearly and makes yearly modifications,as a point person in Athletic department to make schedules.,It can NOT be left up to head coaches.

How is Maryland the 15 seed but Rutgers can't make it in a field of 64?

Maryland went 18-5 in the B1G, while Rutgers finished 2nd just 1.5 games behind them at 17-7.

Maryland had a 45-12 overall record while Rutgers finished 45-14. Rutgers went 3-0 in the B1G Conference tournament before losing in the championship game and had one of the most powerful offensive teams in the country.

How the hell are they not in the tournament?

Why are people surprised. The rpi sos was trash and RU ended up losing to a mediocre Michigan which already gave the Big 10 two bids. Also there was a stunning lack of quality wins

The overconfidence on the board about making the tournament anyway after a loss last night was stunning but not surprising. SOS always matter no matter what ncaa sport

Its a hard lesson for the program and schedule makers. It was an incredible memorable season but you have to rake care of business and never let some committee in a room decide it

Get a clue. We were expected to finish at the bottom of the conference with a major rebuild. You don't schedule tough OOC in that scenario as you want to build a winning culture. We overachieved to even be in the convo.

Think the losses to Princeton and Seton Hall really really hurt. No great wins to offset the damage there.

Everything you say is true. But it is not a formula for an at-large bid.

Agreed.

Sure it it. The formula was to win more. Had we beaten SHU and Princeton, that may have been enough. You don't think RPI during a rebuild schedule planning.

The Big Ten is viewed as a mediocre conference only worthy of two slots.Michigan upsetting Rutgers and Maryland not winning tournament left Rutgers out as a final selection.
Yep - we were all excited about Maryland getting knocked out but that came back to bite us in the ass... as you said, if MD wins the tourney, we are in and Michigan is out - simple as that. Of course that also would have happened if we took care of business yesterday. Still an absolute shame and seems very unfair.

Except that the guys that do this for a living are saying they are shocked that Rutgers did not get in. I don't think it helps that no one from the Big Ten is on the selection committee. Definitely some funny business Happening Here.

Look at the OOC schedules for the two schools. Rutgers Athletics continues to play just horrific OOC schedules in most sports.

Wow, what a massive screw job. For those saying we don't belong do to RPI you're completely wrong. No B1G school has ever been left out with an RPI in the low 40's we were at 42. It's just a massive screw job. Maryland as a 15 seed when they were ranked #8 before the tournament tells you all you need to know about the committee's biased.

Strength of schedule was horrible. Losses to SHU and Princeton. 1 Quad 1 win all season. 1-3 vs Mich, 1-2 vs UMd, and 0-1 vs Coastal Carolina, teams that did make it in.

Frankly Rutgers gave the committee an out and they took it.

The team needed more quality wins against other NCAA potential teams in the B1G. Ww keep seeing the wrong information posted about SOS, which is always the lazy way to play the blame game.

If you play almost 60 games, you should have more quality wins and if you don't, you can't pile up bad losses to Princeton, Seton Hall or losing 3 of 4 to Michigan.

Even watching the games closely this weekend, it was more bad pitching by opponents, vs hitting. When RU faced a solid arm or two, they didn't hit as well. The game vs PSU was also a redflag, that game should have been 6 ot 8-0 headed to the bottom of the 9th, instead they gave up 4 to tie it, before winning in extras.

It was a great year and the kids performed to make RU baseball a discussion topic when it really hasn't ever been one. Not going to go overboard however, this program is clearly on the right track.

Watching other leagues for a couple of innings here or there (Pac 12 top teams, SEC), those programs have more arms up and down the roster. RU is built on bashing bad pitchers, it will get better, now with more focus on Owens and recruiting.

really a shame that this team accomplished so much all season and they don’t end up with anything to “hang a banner” for
