Football Rutgers Football CBs coach Mark Orphey to Texas

Not surprised. As soon as he was bypassed for someone with less experience for co dc the writing was on the wall.

Schiano’s really going to have to earn his money now with all the moving parts on D. I really hope he takes a more active role as I have little faith in Robb Smith as a DC

Come on. That’s not fair. When he had talent in 2012, Robb Smith did an incredible job, and brought the team within an illegal man downfield penalty of playing in the Orange Bowl. The defense carried that team while the offense struggled. This year, he’ll have talent, unlike his previous stint. And what I like about his defense is that he is far more aggressive, unlike the bend don’t break schemes we saw the past few years.

A game in which he let a one legged Bridgewater sit back and pick us apart instead of blitzing and making him try to hobble away to avoid pressure. Yeah that Robb Smith.

Yes, that was a mistake. But the defense still held Louisville well below their seasonal average that year. And the game turned on an illegal man downfield penalty and our receiver unable to catch a ball, which ricocheted off his hands into a Louisville defenders hands. Rutgers won 9 games that year, largely due to the Defense

That’s not the case at all do some homework on this.
Tell me what you know. I know he’s going back home and to one of the elite programs. I know if given the DC title he would have stayed. All I am saying is I knew he was gone as soon as Zach was announced as CoDC. It was obvious.

Not upset with Sparber but wha I have heard over the years was Orphey was a rising star and needed to be protected.

Texas was going out outbid for someone they really want. He's from Houston, an area Texas has been trying to recruit hard. He beat out other "known" coaches for the job.

There's no one to blame here try as you may.

Or maybe Schiano knew Orphey wanted to get back to Texas and he wasn't a candidate for promotion. I don't know. Do you?

We wasted a guy being a spy on Bridgewater instead of rushing him even though he was physically incapable of scrambling, and then on 4-5 key third/fourth down short yardage plays when they took Bridgewater out we didn’t sell out against the run even though it was obvious they weren’t going to let the backup QB pass.

This was never intended to be a negative post. Maybe "Bypassed" was too harsh of a word. All I was saying, as I did in the Sparber announcement, as soon as Schiano named a candidate outside of staff (especially one with a similar resume)the writing was on the wall that Orphey was gone. This is a good move by Orphey. Gets him back home and on staff of an elite program.

this has been in the works . i don’t agree that he went back home only because he did not get DC position

Thats not what I said. I agree it's been in the works. The fact that he wasn't named co-dc made it very apparent he was leaving. That's all I meant. There are only 34 power 2 coordinator positions (not including co's). You tell me that a coordinator role at this stage in his career, in the B1G or SEC doesn't rank above a position coach role?

Got it now . Thanks.
